treatment for maladies that they and their children suffered from; many exposed to Agent Orange have not been able to receive promised medical care through the Veterans Administration medical system, and only with rare exception have their affected children received healthcare assistance from the government.Vietnam veterans and their families who brought the original Agent Orange lawsuit stated 25 years ago that the government "is just waiting for us all to die".Elsewhere, Australian, Canadian and New Zealand veterans obtained compensation in settlements that same year.Description 2 Use outside the project continued to examine and compare dioxin levels in various groups of Vietnam veterans including Army, Marines and brown water riverboat Navy personnel.Dioxin (VAVA), filed a lawsuit in a US sprayed over the forests and fields of central and south Vietnam to rob the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army of cover, particularly around allied bases.Of those one million people, hundreds of of Spraying Between 1961 and 1971 the US sprayed 77 million litres, 8800 tonnes, of Agent Orange over an area of 2.It contained the dioxin TCDD, which was present in an average two parts per million 2001 to see what they might be able to do to help.Killion had been a medic working with the Americans in Hue in 1969.Like many vets, he had experienced difficulties adjusting to normal life after Vietnam. The three Australians have set up an Australian trust, the Vietnamese Victims of Agent Orange Trust, to raise money for children in that part of central Vietnam, Thua Thien Hue province, the area around Hue, where Killion had spent his war years.Luoi is a mountainous district on the western side of Thua Thien Hue province. The population is distributed mainly in the A Luoi and A So valleys, and along National Road 14, which is crossed by the Ho Chi Minh trail. Many parts of the district were sprayed with the Agent Orange during the American War.The ramifications have been very serious. Not only have forests being permanently destroyed, many families bear the burden of having handicapped children due to the effects of Agent Orange. These families face many difficulties in life and achieving self sufficiency due to antiquated farming techniques and poor animal husbandry. For families with handicapped members affected by Agent Orange, life becomes harder and harder.Hong Kim and Hong Quang communes are among those facing the greatest difficulties. The project aims to raise enough to pay for, in this latest case, 75 cows and animal husbandry for some of the poorest people in central Vietnam so that they may escape their poverty and be better equipped to take care of and support family members suffering disabilities suspected to have been caused by Agent Orange. Now the plan is to do the same thing in the Phong Dien district.Contact To find out more about the Vietnamese Victims of Agent Orange Trust or to donate to our latest project, click here to contact us.What was Agent Orange?Agent Orange was a herbicide developed for military use. These herbicides were both developed as weed killers in the 1940's, and were effective against broad leaf plants and several crops. Why did the military use herbicides? In dense terrain particularly, the use of herbicides to destroy covering vegetation was to protect American and allied troops from ambush or other undetected movement of the enemy.Prior to it's introduction for use in Vietnam, was Agent Orange used in the United States?During the testing phase of Agent Orange, use tests were carried out at Fort Detrick, Maryland, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, and Camp Drum in New York. Why was the product called Agent Orange?Who were the manufacturers who produced Agent Orange for the military? The official name of the lawsuit was Multidistrict litigation 381 (MDL 381), and was designated In re Agent Orange Product Liability Litigation. There is no such thing as an Agent Orange Test. This is often confused with two things: 1.It does not detect Agent Orange exposure. This physical is useful only as any routine physical is useful in early detection of disease or health problems.Dioxin is the unwanted byproduct in Agent Orange). The VA does not perform these tests. Can I sue the government or the chemical companies?Title 38 of the United States Code prohibits veterans from suing the government for injuries suffered while in the military.Additional attempts to sue the manufacturers have been attempted, and have been prohibited by the courts.Diamond Shamrock was supported in behalf of the plaintiff by attorney generals in all fifty states, the Supreme Court, however, refused to hear the arguments and that case ended in 1992.Air force Photo) Welcome to the Agent Orange Website. This website is an attempt to provide information about the herbicide Agent Orange used in the Vietnam War, and the results of exposure to this herbicide. As this site grows, we will attempt to add references and documentation. This is an ardous task, however, and we hope you will bear with us as we proceed.Agent Orange was the code name for a herbicide developed for the military, primarily for use in tropical climates. An estimated 19 million gallons of Agent Orange were used in South Vietnam during the war.The earliest health concerns about Agent Orange were about the product's contamination with TCDD, or dioxin.TCDD is one of a family of dioxins, some found in nature, and are cousins of the dibenzofurans and pcb's.The TCDD found in Agent Orange is thought to be harmful to man.In laboratory tests on animals, TCDD has caused a wide variety of diseases, many of them fatal. The Agent Orange used in Vietnam was later found to be extremely contaminated with TCDD.We are not an "official" source of any kind and present this information solely as private citizens.
