Frisell's first group to receive much acclaim was his quartet with Kermit Driscoll on bass, Joey Baron on drums, and Hank Roberts on cello (later slimmed down to a trio when Roberts left). He also branched out into performing soundtracks to the silent films of Buster Keaton with his trio, and contributed to Ryuichi Sakamoto's album Heartbeat.Frisell disbanded his trio.He continued the trend marked by Have a Little Faith by more explicitly incorporating elements of bluegrass and country music into his music. One of Various Artists

Born in Baltimore (18 March, 1951), Bill Frisell played clarinet
throughout his childhood in Denver, Colorado.Later, Bill studied
music at the University of Northern Colorado before attending the Berklee
College of Music in Boston where he studied with John Damian, Herb Pomeroy
and Michael Gibbs. In this period, he toured with Michael Gibbs
and first recorded with German bassist Eberhard Weber.Jim Hall would play but with a sound that comes from Jimi Hendrix",
Frisell told Wire.Besides Hendrix, Hall and Montgomery, Bill lists Paul
Motian, Thelonious Monk, Charles Ives, Sonny Rollins, John Zorn, various
kinds of World Music and his teacher, Dale Bruning, among his musical influences. It was followed by Rambler,
which featured Kenny Wheeler, Bob Stewart, Jerome Harris and Paul Motian.Frisell's third album, Lookout for Hope marked the recording
debut of the Bill Frisell Band.Nevertheless, the record possessed
the cohesive and unmistakable personality of a working band on to a sound
of its own.The Chicago Tribune
said, "'Lookout for Hope' offers one of the most hopeful signs that
contemporary jazz can evolve with dignity, wit and charm.""Before We Were Born", "The Lone Ranger" and "Steady, Girl"."Some Song
and Dance" is a suite of four pieces performed by the Bill Frisell Band
with a saxophone section featuring Julius Hemphill as soloist, produced
by Lee Townsend."Hard Plains Drifter or: before my eyes" is an extended
work of Frisell's music shaped, produced and arranged by John Zorn, also
performed by the Bill Frisell Band.Bill's second Elektra album, Is That You?He is joined throughout by band member Joey Baron
on drums as well as Horvitz on keyboards. The warpage is catching on and not
a moment too soon."Of the "Go
West" recording , Billboard noted: "With this set of music for the classic
Buster Keaton film, 'Go West', Bill Frisell has crafted one of his finest,
most evocative albums.Evincing his best qualities as both guitarist and
composer, he harvests melancholy Americana from deceptively modest, episodic
themes. Some of the music from these projects has been recorded by
Frisell and can be heard on Quartet, Frisell's Nonesuch recording
released in April '96.Joey
Baron, Kermit Driscoll and I never played like a typical jazz trio. The new format also drew praise from Billboard:
"'Quartet'
makes the most out of a variety of feelings. In the midst of touring with his working Quartet, Nonesuch released
Nashville
in April of 1997.Recorded in Nashville with members of country bluegrass
singer Allison Krauss' Union Station band, mandolin player Adam Steffey
and banjo player Ron Block the project also features her brother and Lyle
Lovett's bass player Viktor Krauss, dobro great Jerry Douglas, vocalist
Robin Holcomb and harmonica player Pat Bergeson.Constitution summed it up simply as,
"Frisell's
nod to Nashville is Americana at its best."In January of 1998 Frisell's next project Gone, Just Like A Train
came out.Bone Burnett,
George Harrison, John Lennon and The Traveling Wilburys.Gone' presents Frisell
at a creative apex. He's integrated a thoroughly unique understanding of
so much American Music...It
flies with shining power."THE WILLIES
with Danny Barnes, Eyvind Kang, Chris Leighton and
Keith Lowe
Guitarist Bill Frisell plunges deeper into developing his unique compositional
and improvisational style with this brand new group featuring Danny Barnes,
Eyvind Kang and Keith Lowe. The New York Times wrote: "It's hard to find a more fruitful meditation
on American music than in the compositions of guitarist Bill Frisell.Unlike other pastichists, who tend to
duck passion, Mr.The
breadth of such performing and recording situations is a testament not
only to his singular guitar conception, but his musical versatility as
well.Currently Danny is the songwriter, singer, banjo player, record producer
and recording engineer for Bad Livers who record for Sugar Hill.Howard
Leighton Brown and was composing by the age of seven.Eyvind has great interest in dance and theater which has
led to work with the New City Dance Theatre, the Pat Graney Dance Company
and Stephanie Skura and Cranky Destroyers. He recorded and toured for two
years with The Bill Frisell Quartet and has worked with John Zorn, Wayne
Horvitz, Julian Priester, members of Mr.Eyvind spent much of the last year touring
internationally and began studies with violinist N.Rajam in Bombay with
whom he plans to continue studying in the future.Bass player Keith Lowe is a classically trained Seattle native.Tonefield

I own several of Bill Frisell's discs and although he continues to reinvent himself with each disc, his sound became a little too predictable for me over the past few years. Not only are the tunes on this cd refreshingly funky and upbeat for Bill Frisell, but they still speak volumes to his ability as a player and an artist.Published on September 13, 2004 by I.See all 19 customer reviews...Be the first person to add an article about this item at Amapedia.Music You Should Hear: Artists' PicksWant to know what Norah Jones, Sting, and Il Divo are listening to?Find out in Music You Should Hear, where these and other artists tell you about the music they love.Beautiful Valentine's Gifts

The music Bill played in the sessions that produced this album is really modal.Almost all the tunes are modal vamp based on one chord orchestrated with the common Frisell...Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm...On this 2003 release, Bill Frisell teams up with a group of world musicians. This album was nominated for "World Album of the Year" at the Grammmies, and I can certainly see why...From one intercontinental to another....Being both an intercontinental myself and a Bill Frisell lover, I was naturally pleased when this was released. For a society that has contented itself with the mediocre, maybe. An outstanding global music experience
This is probably one of Bill Frisell's finest works to date.World music it is
This has been my formal introduction into the world of Bill Frisell, so I can't quite make a comparison of this album to his past works. What Do Customers Ultimately Buy After Viewing Items Like This? You Have Got To Love Bill Frisell! The Power of GPS Training Gets Small Location data increases the impact of a fitness computer exponentially. For more about music, check out our blog, Amazon Earworm, and our monthly newsletters, Amazon Delivers. If you need help or have a question for Customer Service, contact us.Is there any other feedback you would like to provide?Track your recent orders.Visit our Help department.Need Tickets for Bill Frisell?Chord Melody Guitar Music offers a unique selection of tab books with CDs and instructional videos by Bill Frisell, Joe Pass, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, John Scofield and others.Add a link to your "Bill Frisell" fan site on VH1.The more control a player has over the nature of that sound, the more likely he is to project a distinctive musical personality. On the other hand, few electric guitarists inhabit that realm, in part because the typical jazz guitar sound differs little from player to player. In general, guitarists do not have the same degree of physical control.Bill Frisell is a notable exception. His ability as an original, lyrical player of melody combines with a unique (if much imitated) sound to make him one of the most singular musicians of his generation.Born in Baltimore, Frisell grew up in Denver, CO.He began playing the clarinet in the fourth grade and took up guitar a few years later for his personal amusement. He continued with the label throughout the decade, earning a reputation as ECM's "house guitarist."Frisell became much acclaimed by critics for his sophisticated yet accessible work.Lindsay Lohan
