Abbey Road Studios in London by John Loder and Penny Rimbaud.Meanwhile,
all the artwork has been carefully reassembled by original Crass member
and artist Gee Vaucher.Crass gigs were more like events, encompassing music, poetry, film and performance.The films Crass projected at shows
were also created by Gee and another filmmaker, Mick Duffield.In recent years Crass fought and won a long battle against property developers

3.Overview and history
Prior to the formation of Crass, Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher had published their creative works via their own Dial House based Exitstencil Press.However the band set up the record label after encountering problems over the release of their first 12" EP, The Feeding Of The 5000, on the Small Wonder label in 1978.The record was eventually released with this track removed and replaced by two minutes of silence, wryly retitled "The Sound Of Free Speech".However, this incident prompted Crass to set up their own record label so that in future they could control all aspects of the production of their material.The Feeding Of The 5000 on Crass Records restored the missing track.As well as releasing their own material, Crass were able to use Crass Records to make available recordings by other performers, the first of which was the 1980 single "You Can Be You" by Honey Bane, a teenage girl who at the time was staying at Dial House whilst on the run from a children's home (however, Bane's backing band on this release are in fact Crass, using the name Donna and the Kebabs).Crass for several years.Many of these groups in turn went on to set up their own independent record labels loosely following the Crass Records model.The label also put out three editions of Bullshit Detector, compilations of demos and rough recordings that had been sent to the band which they felt represented the DIY punk ethic.Singles released on the Crass Records label had a distinctive 'corporate identity'.As well as lyrically addressing political themes from a broadly anarchist perspective, they were always low priced and usually produced by Crass drummer Penny Rimbaud and engineered by John Loder at Southern Studios in north London.George Orwell's novel of the same name (see 1984 (novel)).Sides parts one and two compilation CDs.Crass members Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher continue to put out their creative works (for example, material by Last Amendment, and Vaucher's book Animal Rites) through Exitstencil, often in collaboration with other publishers such as the jazz label Babel Label and AK Press.Crass Records, that enabled artists and performers to put out material supported by Crass through John Loder's Southern Studios, whilst not necessarily being tied to the latter label's 'corporate image' or anarchist ideology.George Berger, The Story of Crass (Omnibus Press, 2006, page p.This page was last modified 19:27, 24 December 2007.To share this media with a friend, you must have AIM installed.Highlights: A smokin version of her hit single Tambourine and a killer verse from Party Like a Rockstar.Get behind the scenes footage from other Sessions alums.Charts

Y!Rating affects your music played in LAUNCHcast and Music Videos.British punk bands, Crass issued a blitz of records that were ruthless in both their unrelenting sociopolitical screeds and their amelodic crash of noise.They were the quintessential anarchist punk ensemble, true believers in their cause.In fact, while the Sex Pistols only sang about Anarchy in the UK, Crass did their darnedest to live and breathe the true meaning of the phrase...The members of this commune soon started generating input into this musical endeaver, so that the original duo quickly grew and expanded to include vocalists Eve Libertine and Joy de Vivre, lead guitarist Phil Free, rhythm guitarist Andy Palmer, bassist Pete Wright and backing vocalist Mick G.Crass' live performances, ages before the Butthole Surfers attempted a similar spectacle.EP with an unlikely 17 tracks!In fact, this EP was actually released with only 16 tracks, as no pressing plant would agree to manufacture it because of objections to the opening track Asylum.Obviously disenchanted with their brushing encounter with institutions in the real world, the group retreated to their commune and launched their own Crass label, on which the remainder of their releases appeared.Yourself artwork, photocopied sleeves which doubled as anarchist propaganda, and a unique cataloguing system which involved a coundown to 1984, a year of clear symbolic significance because of its Orwellian origins.Over the next three years, the band released a number of strongly political singles (Do They Owe Us A Living?The first, Stations of the Crass came out in 1979.Crass of selling out.Needless to say, all titles ensured that these records were rarely, if ever, stocked my mainstream record stores!Crass's perceived sincerity to their cause and their adamant refusal to compromise earned them a solid following (although the music itself certainly didn't hurt).To sum it all up: While they lasted, however, Crass probably lived and espoused the minimalist punk lifestyle more that any other band before or since" (quote taken from Barry Lazell's Punk!Steve later emerged as a member of band Conflict, while the Crass name lived on for a while longer after the actual group's demise in the form of a collaboration between Penny and Eve; they released an album of romantic poetry called Acts of Love in 1986 as well as 10 Notes On A Summer's Day later on that year.Also in 1986, the compilation album Best Before 1984 was released, featuring 20 of Crass's previously released singles.This package was issued with various essys by fans, a complete Crass discography and a "what they're doing now" column..."See a map of synonyms of crass in the Visual Thesaurus." |
