Kevin Lima, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Josephson Entertainment. It premiered on October 20, 2007 at the London Film Festival before it was released on November 21, 2007 in the United States.Plot 2 Cast and characters 3 Production 3.Giselle and Edward get engaged to be married the next day, but her fate takes a turn for the worse on her wedding day when his stepmother, the villainous Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon), throws her through a magic portal to a place where there is no happily ever after in order to keep her stepson single and thus remain queen.Robert takes her to his office and asks his secretary to find out where Giselle came from, which proves unsuccessful.Giselle ends up sending Nancy a wreath of flowers carried by two white doves as an apology from Robert along with tickets to the King and Queen's ball.Charmed, Nancy promptly accepts. They both stare at each other for a moment and come close enough to kiss but Robert turns and bids her good night.Giselle falls into a chair, confused, realizing she is falling for him, and he does the same on his bed.She suggests that they go to the King and Queen's Ball that evening, and Edwards gets her to agree to leave and return with him (reluctantly) to Andalasia right after the ball.Giselle and Morgan go shopping with Robert's emergency credit card for the perfect gown.At the ball, Nancy and Robert dance together wearing 18th century style costumes.Giselle begins to finally realize that Robert is her true love.Nancy and Edward keep their eyes on the couple.Seeing Giselle become distressed when she watches Nancy kiss Robert on the dance floor, Narissa offers her an apple that she says will make Giselle forget the whole experience.Edward returns, and Narissa claims Giselle fainted as Robert and Nancy run to Giselle's aid.Nathaniel appears and admits the plot that she was poisoned, sadly, with his help.Remembering her belief in true love's first kiss, Robert tells Edward to kiss her, only to find it doesn't work.Edward turns to Robert and realizes that his kiss has failed because Robert is her true love.Giselle catches Robert just in time as he falls, and they kiss on the roof.Cast and characters Amy Adams as Giselle: Adams was announced to have been cast in the role of Giselle on November 14, 2005.Hailing from Andalasia, Giselle displays many traits similar to Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, and Belle but her character's initial personality is mostly based on Snow White. She is "eternally optimistic and romantic" but is also "very independent and true to her convictions".Over the course of the film, she becomes more mature but maintains her innocence and naivety.Prince Charming to today's audience".The role was challenging for Dempsey because he was the straight man, which meant most of the humor came from his reactions to the people around him.Dempsey's character, Robert, is a cynical divorce lawyer living in New York City with his daughter, Morgan. In 2001, director Jon Turteltaub was set to direct the film but he left soon after. However, the project did not take off.He created visual storyboard printouts that covered the story of Enchanted from beginning to end, which filled an entire floor of a production building.Walt Disney Pictures logo and Enchanted storybook are shown, and then switches to a smaller 1.Out of the film's 104 minutes running time, there are approximately 12 minutes of animation with eight minutes of it at the beginning.Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Rafiki (The Lion King), and Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame).Although Lima wanted the animation be nostalgic, he wanted Enchanted to have a style of its own.Seeing Giselle as "a forest girl, an innocent nymph with flowers in her hair" and "a bit of a hippie", the animators wanted her to be "flowing, with her hair and clothes.Robert Philip's apartment on 116th Street.Since the majority of the film is set in New York City, it was shot there in entirety. However, shooting in New York became problematic as it was in a "constant state of new stores, scaffolding and renovation".The first scene in New York, which features Giselle emerging from a manhole in the middle of Times Square, was filmed on location. Many scenes were also filmed at Steiner Studios, which provided the three large stages that Enchanted needed at the same facility.Menken became involved with the film in the early stages of the film's development and invited Schwartz to resume their collaboration. They began the songwriting process by searching for the right moments in the story in which a song moment was allowed. The three songs Giselle sings contain references to earlier Disney films."I'm Wishing" (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) and "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" (Cinderella), during which Disney heroines sing about the joy of being loved. It posed a challenge for Menken and Schwartz because of the "many preconceptions with that number"; it had to be reflective of the era of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and Cinderella.Menken's compositions for his Disney features, specifically such big production numbers as "Under the Sea" (The Little Mermaid) and "Be Our Guest" (Beauty and the Beast). As the film progresses, the music evolves to be more contemporary which is heard through the adult ballad, "So Close" and the pop number, "Ever Ever After".Menken has stated that the song will most likely be included as an extra on the Enchanted DVD."Ever Ever After" was released as a single, sung by Carrie Underwood, with the Spanish version recorded by Gisela.Soundtrack listing The soundtrack was officially released on November 20, 2007 by Walt Disney Records and contains 15 audio tracks, which include the five original songs used in the film as well as the film's score.Visual effects A majority of the visual effects shots in Enchanted was done by Tippett Studio in Berkeley, California, who contributed a total of 320 shots. The real animals captured on film aided Tippett Studio in creating CG rats and pigeons, which gave dynamic performances such as having pigeons that carried brooms in their beaks and rats that scrubbed with toothbrushes. On the other hand, all the cockroaches were CG characters. This meant the animators had to display Pip's emotions through performance as well as making him appear like a real chipmunk. The team at Tippett began the process of animating Pip by observing live chipmunks which were filmed in motion from "every conceivable angle".While on location in Times Square in New York City, visual effects supervisor Thomas Schelesny showed the first animation of Pip to director Kevin Lima, who was surprised that he was a looking at CG character and not reference footage. To enhance facial expressions, the modelers gave Pip eyebrows, which real chipmunks don't have.During the filming of scenes in which Pip appears, a number of ways were used to indicate the physical presence of Pip.The rig was a "puppeteering" approach that involved a robotic arm being controlled by three different floor effects artists.Distribution The film was distributed domestically by Walt Disney Pictures and internationally by Buena Vista International.Reviews Reviews of Enchanted were generally positive.Positive reviews praised the film's take on a classic Disney story, its comedy and musical numbers as well as the performance of its lead actress, Amy Adams.Weekly remarked on the film's ability to cater for all ages.Enchanted was the Broadcast Film Critics Association's choice for Best Family Film of 2007, while Carrie Rickey of The Philadelphia Inquirer named it the 4th best film of 2007.They cited that although the story is relatively predictable, the way in which the predictability of the film is part of the story, the amazingly extravagant musical numbers, along with the way in which Disney pokes fun at its traditional line of animated movies outweighs any squabbles about storyline or being unsure of what age bracket the film is made for.Peter Travers of Rolling Stone, Wesley Morris of The Boston Globe and Todd McCarthy of Variety claimed that Enchanted has made Adams a movie star, likening it to Mary Poppins' effect on Julie Andrews' career.Bradshaw gave the film two out of five. Some of the names of characters in Enchanted contain reference to past Disney actresses. Also, the hero (or in this case, the heroine) fights off the villain with a sword.Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs References to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs are evident in the 2D animation at the beginning of the film, namely the Magic Wishing Well and Giselle's cottage. The poisoned apples Nathaniel and Narissa try to give Giselle are also references. Finally, at the end of "True Love's Kiss", Edward and Giselle are seen riding off into the sunset; this is a tribute to the ending of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The law firm that Robert works at, "Churchill, Harline and Smith", is a reference to the songwriters for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Frank Churchill, Leigh Harline and Paul J.The musical notes Snow White sings into the well is used as Giselle's animal call. The wicked queen Narissa and hag that she turns into are based on the Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This is a tribute to the "Sing Sweet Nightingale" sequence in Cinderella. The pumpkin coach which brings Giselle to the palace is also a Cinderella tribute.Edward's animated appearance was modeled on Prince Phillip's, while Queen Narissa's character is based off of Maleficent's.Giselle builds her dream prince with her animal friends, much like Princess Aurora's forest friends use Prince Phillip's clothes to pretend to be the prince from her dreams.Ariel of The Little Mermaid was the fourth Disney princess, and various elements of the 1989 film are referenced in Enchanted. For example, Giselle sings to her imaginary man, as Ariel does with the statue of Eric.Benson voiced Ariel in The Little Mermaid, and during a certain scene, she is seen in an office with a fish tank.Beauty and the Beast Beauty and the Beast is paid tribute to numerous times throughout Enchanted. The ballroom scene is an obvious homage to the famous ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast.Enchanted it is "So Close" by Jon McLaughlin). The camera angles are also very similar to the scene it references. She plays a woman named Angela, a reference to Angela Lansbury, the voice of Ms.The background music of the show is the song, Beauty and the Beast and the set design is based on the film's bandaging scene.Other Mary Poppins is referenced a few times in Enchanted. The divorcing couple are named after the parents in Mary Poppins, the Banks. He also bears a resemblance to Victor from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.Although not specific "princess movies", there have been a lot of references and tributes to other Disney works and future films."Pink Elephants on Parade" from Dumbo is heard before Edward changes the channel on the television. The two future "princess" movies, The Princess and the Frog and Rapunzel are also referenced in Enchanted. The Princess and the Frog is referenced during the closing credits, where a frog with a crown is seen being kissed by a woman. While Giselle is not being marketed as one of the Disney Princesses, Giselle and Enchanted merchandise has been available in various outlets, Adams' animated likeness is used on all Princess Giselle merchandise.McClintock, Pamela, "Audiences still looking for 'Treasure'", Variety, December 29, 2007.Fleming, Michael, "Disney crowns its princess",
