Marcus: Experimentele soundscapes met traditionele mystieke invloeden zijn hoorbaar op het derde studioalbum van Equimanthorn.Erg moeilijk taalgebruik met gigantische tekstuele passages, waarin gesproken woord wordt afgewisseld met sferische tonen waarbij percussie en traditionele instrumenten worden bespeeld.Er is niet echt sprake van nummers met een 'kop en staart', het zijn slechts sfeerlijnen.Drum en percussie zijn het meest dominant aanwezig met oosterse melodielijnen.Met weinig tot de verbeelding sprekende titels als 'When Seven Came Unto The Fundament' en 'The Submissive Myth Genesis Of Mirror Waters Rising' is het dan ook lastig om een zinnig oordeel over dit album te vellen.Ook op de website van de band zijn foto's met zwaarden en ridderhelmen te vinden, iets waar ik binnen deze context persoonlijk heel erg weinig mee kan.Voor de liefhebbers in het genre is dit wellicht een geweldig album, maar ik kan hier geen positief of negatief oordeel over vellen.Buitengewoon muzikale melodielijnen zijn niet aanwezig, slechts langgerekte tonen, afgewisseld met koren, gesproken woord en dreigende percussie.Het lijkt erop of dat mythologie van dit album primair staat, en daarnaast secundair de muziek.Featuring members of Absu, Melechesh and The Soil Bleeds Black. |
