| Hours() * 3600 + currentTime.Minutes() * 60 + currentTime.Day Shipping at checkout.Eri Sugai is the latest entry in the heavenly choir that includes Enya and Miriam Stockley of Adiemus.Like those artists, she multitracks her voice into angelic choruses, soaring over spare but emotional arrangements.Most of Mai, which means "dance," is sung in a fanciful string of ecstatic nonsense phonemes.But when Sugai uses them in her tribal stomps and gentle lullabies they sound like poetry.On "Honen Bushi" Sugai steps into the background, creating a vocal cloud around the lead voice of Anna Sugar, who sings a traditional song with a tribal beat and chanting chorus, while "Konjaku Monogatari," the only song in Japanese, is like a child's song turned into an expansive meditation.It's startling, at times, how close Sugai sounds to Adiemus, especially on "Aqua," a song that started out as a commercial.Eri Sugai creates a unique and mysterious world, weaving together layers of rich vocal harmonies with traditional Asian instruments.The human voice is capable of so much more than speech.While Enya and Maire Brennan sing in the language of the Celts or Gallic, Lisa Gerrard's vocals are reminiscent of Aramaic.Eri Sugai was strongly affected by church music early in her career, and it gives an almost spiritual tone to her vocalizations.Eri Sugai deserves a place as a premier vocalist, in the same caliber as Enya or Maire Brennan.Most of this album is a cappela with little to no background noise (except for the occassional synthesizer), but on "Mai" (which means "dance") and on the more upbeat "Honen Bushi" they at least have some drum playing which adds to the exhilerating experience.Bjork's VESPERTINE album mixed in with the vocal styling of Yasue, who is also a Japanese new age singer.This is definitely one of my more enchanting CDs to relax to.The enrapturing beauty that emanates forth from all the mystifying songs take full control as it possesses the listener.So in conclusion I'm gonna stop before I write a novel on how incredible this album is.You're just gonna have to take my word for it.This is highly recommended.Heartbreakingly graceful and soaring at times.It is a balm for a tired soul.CD because it's good to hear music where the voice is used as part of the song instead of the main focus.Published on October 26, 2005 by E.Swept Me Off My Feet

Eri SUGAI is an active singer song writer and not only has she provided many artists with musical pieces and produced many CM songs, she is also very talented in expressing the beauty of the voice such as with the expression of the acapella chorus with multiplex recording.She studied in France in 1990 and conducted the Orchestra playing the symphony she wrote in 1995.Then in order to experience a fresh environment for her music, she chose Japan.She became a student of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.His sounds, created with comfortable rhythms, describe a tender and calm world."WINGS IN THE DAWN" in 2001 on the Pacific Moon label.It won him high acclaim, particularly in the U.In 2005 at the Aichi Expo, he directed the music for Kansai Yamamoto's opening act "TOBUZO" (Let's Fly!Festival of Life) In 2006, he was in charge of the music for the film, "Toki o Kakeru Shojo" (The girl who leapt through time) released in the summer of 2006.She won the first prize, the 'Gold Prize' at the Chinese youth folk instrument solo contest, and she entered The Chinese National Central Conservatory of Music at fifteen.Ms Kyoda worked simultaneously as a keyboard player for many artists.She has taken part in many performance, such as live shows, arrangements, producing background music.SUSUMU UEDA

Eri Sugai's Mai is a lovely album of New Age music with Sugai's voice at the centre.PR, Eri Sugai's Mai.Although certainly similar sounding to the Greta Garbo of Pop, as Enya has been named, Eri Sugai's melodies are generally more upbeat.Like Enya and other artists like Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance, Eri Sugai frequently uses syllables and vocal sounds which do not add up to any known langauge."Honen Bushi" exhibits Eri Sugai's Asian influences, most obviously via the aforementioned scale difference.Into the song also goes the electronic adjustment of voice Madonna has most recently adopted.When the CD spins through that moment, I tend to stop and marvel and the dexterity of the human voice.Eri Sugai has given me more of those moments to wonder at and enjoy. |
