trying to write a self penned bio, I had to really think of what brought me from
a small town on the east coast to having a debut release on Warner Bros.Etcheson and had my first recital in the second grade at the local museum.My friend was playing sax in the
school band and I thought I could sit beside him if I played the sax too.Galen Reeder, who was a local icon on the sax at
that time.He was an amazing player and teacher who started me on a strictly classical
routine.High and taking an hour of full band and an hour
of Jazz band every day.The only classical sax major there.In spite of
the warning, I went there, entering the classical program and soaking up as many
of the other school programs as I could.David Sanborn at this time.CD's and would be represented by his
manager , Bill Darlington.Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World in Florida playing
in the All American College Band.It was basically a 18 piece big band that
would play from several locations in the park during the summer rush.Disney
would also bring in several clinicians to do,....Basically, that I had to
work to make money and there really wasn't any work for a classical sax player.They had a deal on Arista and a huge hit in the dance
clubs.This was the first time I had heard myself on the
radio.My roommate in LA was also a band mate of mine
from Miami, James Slater.Richard was recording
his second solo record at the time as well as playing with Tower of Power.It was during this tour that I met my wife Bane.It was love at first
site.In 1990, I went on to play for Richard Marx,
succeeding Dave Koz in the sax chair.It was during this tour that we had our
first son, Dax.This was also the
second track that I had played on to go to number one 1 in Billboard.Richard before hooking up with Joe Cocker with whom I did 3 tours.In
between Joe tours I did 2 tours for Eros Ramazotti.Eros is an Italian singer
with massive success in Europe and South America.It was also where I was when I found out of child number 3.This brings us up to 1999 and I had had enough of the road.He
was all for it, but had little time.Mike has several TV shows he writes for as
well as quite a career writing for smooth jazz artists.After recording 8 songs, we weren't really sure of what to do
next.Paul Brown was the guy to mix, so Mike gave him a call.Mike had worked
with Paul on tracks for Boney, Braun, Peter White, and Larry Carlton.After
hearing the tracks, Paul agreed, but couldn't fit us in for a few months.In the meantime while waiting for Paul, I decided to throw my home
mixes up on Mp3.So, I decided to go under a nickname that had kind of found
me over the years, Euge Groove.Groove was a common pronunciation of Grove, especially
in Europe.In 6 weeks
time I was number one on their jazz chart and number 6 for the whole site.By
the end of the year, more than 100,000 had downloaded from my site.About the time my tracks were peeking, Paul Brown
was ready to mix.Paul and
he took 2 days to mix 6 tracks.What was so brilliant, was he mixed like a
producer.He completely reshaped the tracks.Joe Cocker coming up in a few weeks, so I
had to get Paul back in to finish the other 2 tracks.Matt and I had
gone to U Miami together 20 years earlier, but we hadn't spoken to each other
since.What's quite ironic is that a few
months later, I got my demo back from Matt's office that I sent him a few years
earlier,......Meanwhile, I had to go to London to tape Tina Turner's 60th birthday
special and Cocker was starting a few days later.Paul for 4 days, and went right back to London for Cocker
rehearsals and 3 months of touring.They met when JC was a member of the Mickey Mouse
Club and Mike was the MD (I guess Mickey was a first employer for both of us).Anyway, we did get permission, but I
was in Germany with Joe.We decided to do a ISDN session to get the sax on.Frankfort, we went through a translator in London to Schnee Studio in LA.Finally the album was complete.My wife loaned her lips for the
cover photo and Simon Ryan in London was finishing the artwork.This was February 2000, it's now January 2001.Smooth Jazz chart with 27
weeks.Smooth Jazz Awards
