Evil Masquerade was founded in the summer of 2003 in Copenhagen by guitarist Henrik Flyman (Wuthering Heights, Moahni Moahna, ZooL).It was released early 2004 under the name "Welcome to the Show".Only a year later it was followed up with their 2nd album "Theatrical Madness".Even though "Theatrical Madness" gained the band many new fans around the world they were still a bit anonymous to the broader audience.The current lineup consists of Henrik Flyman (gtr), Apollo Papathanasio (voc), Dennis Buhl (dr) and Thor Jeppesen (bs).You can help by expanding it."Are you sure you want to block this user?Listening to this album just makes me feel good.Evil Masquerade, but if you take a little bit of Blind Guardian, a

Brilliant Melodic and progressive, fresh yet familiar sounding metal.Evil Masquerade is back with their third album Third Act and the band has never sounded better.Third Act is a solid release of convincing songwriting and musicianship, wrapped up with a very good production.When bandleader and guitarist Henrik Flyman set out to compose the songs for this album he was determined to make it far beyond what Evil Masquerade had done before.Bass player on a permanent basis is now Thor Jeppesen.It wasn't long before Apollo was in the band and this turned out to be an interesting improvement of the Evil Masquerade sound.In accordance with Evil Masquerade tradition a couple of keyboardists were invited as special guests.Richard Andersson has been playing on the two previous releases and Third Act is no exception.New with the band is legendary David Rosenthal (Rainbow, Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Dream Theater, Whitesnake etc.The guitars fit every song as a glove and are never overplayed.We get heavy riffs, explosive leads, beautiful melodies, acoustic guitars and even some slide.Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn, TNT, Evil Masquerade) and you can easily hear why he is in such high demand.Before today, Danish band Evil Masquerade have released two quite ordinary albums on Frontiers Records.Frontiers thought likewise as the band's deal was not prolonged.They might regret this though.Nor is the fact that Flyman actually wrote song material for two albums worth and in the end tumbled half of it in the dustbin.Dennis Buhl on drums and Thor Jeppesen, a colleague of Buhl in gothic metal band Sinphonia, on bass guitar.The band's progress on this album is really remarkable.They've got my support already!Thor Jeppesen (Bass) and Dennis Buhl (Drums).One difference with the previous albums is the fact the band has a new vocalist.Hendrik Flyman recently heard from his friend Richard Andersson from Time Requiem that his vocalist was not in the band anymore and maybe would be interested to continue his singing in Evil Masquerade.Not a bad choice in my opinion, this Apollo dude has a very wide vocal range and with much diversity he does a real good job in bringing a big deal of extra to the great compositions on this record.The music is the kind of melodic progressive metal that could easily amaze the fans of this genre.And all this the band has put onto a disk with eleven classical relatively well received albums prior to Third Act but, with the addition of vocalist Apollo Papathansio (Time Requiem, Majestic), they now have their sights set on world wide acclaim.The first real track of the CD, "Third Act," is a fast paced power metal track that combines the Dio influence of Papathansio with the speed of contemporary metal acts such as Labyrinth, Rhapsody and even a bit of old school Kamelot.If you can't hear "The Bell Witch" in this song, you're not a MF fan!The album has a solid European power metal sound that continues with "Descended from the Grave," which then gives way to the burning rocker "Far Away," that not only displays Papathansio at his best but, showcases the bands best song writing yet!The riff that holds the song together will have any metal fan throwing their hand to the sky.There aren't many surprises on the album (if you ignore the slightly off and not very good "Under the Surface of Water").The musicianship is as tight as you'd expect from any power metal band though Buhl does a few more interesting things on the disc that a lot of standard power metal drummers might not do.Andersson doesn't distract too much from the songs he contributes to and Flyman's licks are quite delicious for the genre.Evil Masquerade also manage to avoid falling into the galloping riff style of a lot of power metal bands which is a nice change of
