ESPNdeportes.When I was hammering out my complex, multitiered, yet extremely nonlucrative deal with ESPN."Fast Break Challenge" just seemed to call out to me.Matthew Berry knows Fast Break Challenge is right up my proverbial alley.And that, first and foremost, means dealing with a salary cap.It's popular, it works, I'm in something like 8 leagues that use this format (soon to be proven in Grand Theft Roto, coming to a laptop near you).But there's more than one way to build a team, and I'm forever looking for alternatives.Fast Break Challenge rewards the savvy and the swift.If you want to play it safe and buy established players at a high price, that's perfectly reasonable.Circuit City gift certificates.You get a shot at any player you want.For example, I happen to like Antawn Jamison.Plus he's a model citizen and a good influence in your imaginary locker room.He's been my good luck charm ever since Donyell Marshall stopped being my good luck charm.Isiah Thomas is existentially incapable of playing this game.Because there is no luxury tax in Fast Break Challenge.On the other hand, I could see Elgin Baylor stampeding for Fast Break Challenge, imagining what it would be like to spend an actual budget on quality players instead of, say, Tim Thomas.As I always say, life is unfair enough on its own without it seeping into your geeky hobbies.And Fast Break Challenge is free!So, I get to have that feeling of trading up and down, of buying low and selling high, on a daily basis, without having to ever, ever watch CNBC.And my inner soul thanks me for that.Every year, I try to include a provision in my leagues that owners who refuse to make at least three trades during a season be docked a draft choice the next year.Not that anyone listens.Go with the Spurs and think about the rest of your team.But I have to admit; Atlanta is kind of calling out to me (it also provides another reason why Isiah Thomas can't play Fast Break Challenge, because I would think even he would see why he shouldn't buy himself).It sounds like something that should be hosted by Gene Shue.Matic with, I wouldn't be playing fantasy sports.Players that produce across the board, not just pure scorers.Andre Iguodala's of this world.If you already like shooting guards, then maybe think about production per 48 minutes, assist to turnover ratio or Afghan food.Because if you look at Fast Break Challenge like the New York Stock Exchange, centers are still going to provide the most amount of fluctuation.There just aren't a lot of good ones to go around.Think Andris Biedrins, Mikki Moore.It's not like the steadier growth you tend to see in guards and small forwards.This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed in any form.Click to view legal restrictions and
