a9AdsViewNamespace.No one has tagged this product for Amazon search yet.See all 319 customer reviews...The easiest way to shoot video reviews.Too many names, too little story ...Feast for Crows is a great disappointment.More and more characters are introduced, more and more names, lengthy genealogies, all of it unnecessary and tedious.Unfortunately, novels do not work that way.As any performer knows, it is better to "always leave them wanting more" than to outstay your welcome.Many chapters should have been deleted, and much tedious detail eliminated.In short, it needs a good editing, and its editors should be embarrassed about letting this baggy monster loose before it was ready.Was this review helpful to you?I'll start out by saying that I couldn't wait for it to come out and bought the UK edition and got it on Oct 18th and then sped my way through it in a few days.The general reader complaint with the book of course is the omitted POV chapters.However, had you been following along at George R.Martin would have preferred to make it a single book, but what resulted is a good compromise of full character arcs for half the "cast".Both characters are in situations where there is little going on that they can alter given that they are still children and are both students, learning their craft from their respective mentors while maturing towards adulthood.That is when they will be able to really make a difference in the world.Dance of Dragons (already more than halfway done and should have it out to us by early 2007 at latest) which will contain more Arya and give us back Danerys, Tyrion, Jon, Bran, etc is essentially the other half of the book and will tie things together and move us into the future.Hopefully books 6 and 7 though are not cut in half the same way 4 and 5 will be as the compromise does do a bit to reduce the richness of the overall story.Thus readers could go back and read book 4 and 5 together in the chronological order as originally intended.Martin's approach and the quality.New readers go grab a Game of Thrones.Was this review helpful to you?The good: Martin has maintained the writing quality, plot complexity, and character depth that marked the earlier books in the series.While Cersei spirals into a web of her own deceits, Jaime is emerging as a likely hero.Sam is shedding some of his cowardice.Westeros (Dorne and Oldtown).Ironically, I would put in the "good" column the loss of the noblest character in the entire ensemble cast, as the death was done tactfully and in a spirit befitting the character.Martin take too long to get this book out, but he split it, and he split it wrong.Perhaps, the publisher wanted two books?Anyway, it if HAD to be split, then it should have been done chronologically, instead of by characters.No Daenerys, no Jon Snow, no Stannis, no Davos, no Bran.Tyrion is one of the most interesting characters I have ever encountered.See all 713 customer reviews...Really, REALLY worse than the first 3 books

The novel was published five years and two months after the previous volume in the series, A Storm of Swords.This was due to a series of problems that arose during the writing of the novel.However, during the writing process it was discovered that this was leading to an overreliance on flashbacks to fill in the gap.After twelve months or so of working on the book, Martin decided to abandon much of what had previously been written and start again, this time picking up immediately after the end of A Storm of Swords.He also announced that A Dance with Dragons would now be the fifth book in the sequence.The split of the novel also meant that the series would be seven rather than six books long.Dance with Dragons remains the title of the fifth book.Martin supplied a note at the end of A Feast for Crows explaining the reason for the split and promising that A Dance with Dragons would follow with the missing POV characters 'next year'.Bakkalon, the Pale Child, is one of the Gods worshipped
