I am a writer and an urban anthropologist living in Memphis with my husband and two young sons."Fertile Ground: For People who Dig Parenting.""Wow, that is so great that you've never been in the hospital..."As you may or may not know, Team Oster likes to keep their body parts.Warren envisioned a multicolored bacterial invasion behind his tonsils and wanted to see it.Going into the surgery, I knew it would be difficult, as my brother, a resident at the hospital, told me the tonsils would go to Pathology.However, when I made my request to the most earnest of the nurses, her earnestness made me think it might actually happen."I'll note it on the chart," she said authoritatively."Can I have the tonsils?""There's not much to see," he said, trying to disinterest me."Pathology, I'll see if I can get them."Does Pathology exist in a mythical realm or something?STBSIL soon returned, tonsils in tow, and you know what?They do look a lot like hamburger meat!Stay tuned to Chop Fayn to see what becomes of them!Told STBSIL that they were "infectious," and "toxic," and were most likely already sliced up and floating in formaldehyde.I'd see how uninformed I really am.Do you know what this is?For those of you requiring a (not so helpful) hint, the last "gift" Warren's boss gave us was a cow pelvis.These words are so ingrained in our family's lexicon that we all sometimes forget that they aren't real words.We decided that next year we would publish a dictionary of sorts to give my mom as a gift, but once we started listing the words it became apparent that there weren't as many as we thought.Or that we could remember.And hopefully entertain my mom with when she starts surfing the Internet at work on Monday.Disclaimer: Spellings and definitions are still up for debate amongst the Greenberg women.Flumpy, usually confining one to bed (or the sofa, if no TV is in the bedroom).Gasplunkelated, but not requiring hospitalization.By far the most popular of all of GiGi's words.It didn't take long for him to get the hang of it.While the big boys played with their balls, the monkeys and I watched from the bleachers and tried to avoid getting clocked in the head.Thankfully the practice balls are fairly soft so our close misses and flybys didn't hurt too bad.There are all types in this league and you really cannot tell how good someone is from their appearance.Despite looking like a video game loving stoner, he was spry and bounced all over the court.Later, when he came looking for it, I told him what happened.He and a few other guys tried their best to stretch their arms down to fetch it, but to no avail.Satchel seemed very interested in what was going on, so I asked him if he wanted to climb under the bleachers and look for The Ninja's jacket.Two seconds later, he came out with a dodgeball.He went back under and we could all hear some stomping and bumping around.The Ninja and his friends eagerly watched through the cracks, directing Satchel to the jacket.As he was scurrying back to the end, The Ninja came over to me and said, "Thank you, Mam."Then he gave Satchel a high five and slipped him a buck.Once all the excitement died down, we went back to watching Warren play and tried to figure out the rules.I'm looking forward to being a fan and cheering on Warren for a change.Memphis would embrace Mosaiculture.Or maybe it would inspire the Riverfront Development Corporation....Or be incorporated in the new Skatepark on Mud Island...As requested, here is our Family Letter from 2007.See if you can guess which one it is!Now that we are all settled in, we are looking forward to a year of taking it easy.In the world of Archaeology, Warren led two pretty cool projects this year.Indian sites along the Buffalo River in Perry County, Tennessee.Warren amazes us with his incredible cooking, his uncanny ability to fix all things broken, and his penchant for making extravagant costumes for the boys to wear in school plays.They are both doing extremely well there and seem to thrive in the Montessori atmosphere.When I pick him up from school I fully expect to see his knees dirty from soccer and his fingernails dirty from bug hunting.Jiro, age 3, is the toughest kid in town.He knows more about operating our remote control than I do!However, after a good bit of healing, a stint at coaching, and lots of hard work, I made it back on the track December 1st!In addition to roller derby, I keep myself busy writing.More than anything, I like writing about the boys and our family life on my blogs.Follow along with us at www.Warren came to my rescue.I've been trying to figure out what brought this on.Last Sunday I took two hard falls at practice, both right on my ass.Santa brought me some new skates.I'm trying not to feel like an old lady.Send three dollars for a copy of the current issue.THE REAL DIRT
