Default 4 Non Blondes

How fabulous is this band?? Linda's voice is amazing wub.gif deffo my 2nd fave band EVER laugh.gif

4 Non Blondes was an American rock band formed in 1989 by four women who were not blonde.

They consisted of bassist Christa Hillhouse, guitarist Shaunna Hall, drummer Wanda Day and vocalist Linda Perry. Prior to the release of their first album, Roger Rocha replaced Hall on guitar, and Dawn Richardson replaced Day on drums. They hit the charts in 1993 with "What's Up", their only hit. Perry left the band in 1995 to begin a solo career, and the remaining members disbanded soon thereafter. They represented American alternative rock genre of music.

If you don't have their album, Bigger Better Faster More! I highly recommend it, its the best album I've ever brought, every song is amazing

I would ENTIRELY dispute that... I was around during the whole US Indie/alt/grunge explosion and 4 Non Blondes were absolutely NOTHING to do with that scene whatsoever, they were not part of it in any way at all, they were dismissed as being "corporate", they had no Indie background at all like the vast majority of the alternative scene. US Alt Rock at that time was bands like Sonic Youth, Babes In Toyland, Nirvana, The Breeders, Buffallo Tom, Mudhoney, Pixies, Dinosaur Jr, Hole/Courtney Love, Big Black, Tad, Pavement, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Mould/Husker Du, Sebadoh, Firehose - even the likes of Faith No More, Rage Against the Machine or RHCP at a push -, etc - that absolutely wonderful generation of US bands... The likes of which we have never seen since.... 4 Non Blondes were basically just stereotypical Yankee RAWK c**p alongside Skid Row, Stone Temple Pilots and Extreme....

The name always irritated the fukk out of me, as utterly contrived as the band themselves were, like "hey, we're 4 non blondes, and we are sooooo, like, alternative aren't we....?" Well, Babes In Toyland's Kat Bjelland, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Hole's Courtney Love were ALL blondes, and frankly I know who had the more "alternative" cred, and it sure as sh!t was NOT 4 Non Blondes..... Kat, Kim and Courtney could eat these four for breakfast....

And frankly, what is this even doing in the Pop Forum anyway...? Surely if there was contender for "Retro", this is it....

They split up in '95, yeah..? I myself would've thought a band who split up 12 years ago and had most of their fame around 15 years ago would qualify as Retro.. Seems a bit odd to me that they dont tbh.... unsure.gif

Fair enough, if you like I'll ask someone to move it, it doesnt matter to me where it goes.

I have this trouble a lot, I know that no matter where I post things like this then I'll have put them in wrong forum laugh.gif When I posted my Bon Jovi photos I think that thread got moved around about 3 times rotf.gif

and Nickelback laugh.gif laugh.gif (tho think Extreme provided the bases for LFO's hit so thats kinda alrite i guess???)

i havent a clue who most of those bands are, but i will go with his opionion as yeah, he knows his stuff went it comes to this kinda thing.

i only know one track by the band but in any case that one track rates them as being worse than the cranberries

and the fact that i think she (linda perry) discovered James Blunt only adds to the awfulness (custard records is her label i think) however good get the party started sounded at the time.

lets hope newton doesnt swap his longpig for perry, mass suicide would be the only opition laugh.gif laugh.gif

well seeing as there is no rock forum, and obv nobody would want it to go anywhere near the indie and alternative area. laugh.gif but it does kinda stick out a bit as it not really a pop(ular) music area but a tweeny/teenybop cheesy bubblegum commercial manufactured pop!!! obessive area.

btw I wonder if those Bryan Adams photos of P!nk are hanging up in Linda Perry's crib at this very moment??? laugh.gif

What's Up is a great song. I remember there was a dance version that came out
in the same year by DJ Miko.
