Washington D.Hellyeah is a heavy metal supergroup, consisting of Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla, and former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul.The idea to form a supergroup originated in 2001 on the Tattoo the Earth tour, although plans were constantly put on hold due to scheduling conflicts.The summer of 2006 allowed the band to take the project seriously and record its first album.Released on April 10, 2007, the album entered the Billboard 200 at number 9, selling 45,000 copies.Damageplan bassist Zilla replaced him, and the band released a DVD titled Below the Belt on November 13, 2007.Formation
Hellyeah's beginnings can be traced back to 2001 on the Tattoo the Earth tour featuring Mudvayne, Nothingface, Slayer, Slipknot and Sevendust.At this time, Gray and Maxwell had brainstormed five band names.Maxwell recruited fellow band member Jerry Montano to play bass guitar.Tribbett approached Maxwell "out of the blue" and wanted to join the band.Originally, Paul was unsure if he wanted to join as he had started his own record label, Big Vin Records, and was still thinking about the murder of his brother.The time over the summer allowed the band to pursue the project which had been talked about for years.The song "Waging War" was written in two days, followed by Maxwell tracking it the next day, and Gray completing vocals.During the summer of 2006, schedules were clear, which allowed members to take the time to record a studio album.Filled with photos of his late brother Dimebag, Paul found it tough entering the studio where Damageplan, Rebel Meets Rebel, and Pantera recorded their last albums, but felt "the dark cloud that was there went away", due to everyone's positive energy.Maxwell and Tribbett were the primary writers of the album, and Paul was there to "steer them in the right direction", with Gray adding his opinion on musical arrangements.Paul built the members a cabana style house on his pool deck with air conditioning, a TV, and beds so the members felt comfortable while recording.Paul produced the record and Gray felt Paul "facilitated the whole thing".The album was completed in roughly a month with three recording sessions.When a member thought of a name they would write it on a piece of paper and put it in an amp box outside the studio.Someone wrote "Hellyeah", and the band thought it was a perfect choice.Revolver Magazine was one of the first print publications to feature the band in March 2007."Hellyeah", started gaining satellite radio airplay in February 2007, and the first single "You Wouldn't Know" hit American radio airwaves the same month."You Wouldn't Know" peaked at number 5 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, and 35 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks.Hellyeah was released on April 10, 2007 via Epic Records.As of October 18, 2007, the album has sold 204,000 copies.Hellyeah received generally positive reviews.However, Ruhlmann believes Hellyeah is not a notable variation from members previous bands.Kaye thought that Hellyeah's first studio effort was not equal to any of its members main output.Promoting Hellyeah
Bassist Montano left Hellyeah a week after the album's release.The band's publicist stated his departure was due to "personal reasons on both sides".Zilla was invited to jam with the band, although as a temporary replacement.He was eventually hired as bassist and joined the band to promote Hellyeah.Hellyeah embarked on their first tour on May 2007 titled Fire it Up, made an appearance at the Download Festival, and underwent Australian tour in July 2007.The Family Values Tour with Korn and Evanescence, saw the band start touring in late July, which also consisted playing with Alter Bridge in San Antonio before passing through thirty cities before ending in Washington, D.DVD titled Below the Belt was released on November 13, 2007, and featured performance footage from the making of the album, first studio sessions, coverage of the band's world tour, and personal interviews.It was produced by members of the band and Ryan Ziemba.Style

a9AdsViewNamespace.Well, the fact of the matter is your opinion is actually irrelevant, because the music industry thinks we can never have too many of them.This one is called Hellyeah, and consists of two members of Mudvayne (vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett), Nothingface's Jerry Montano on bass, and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, who used to play in a little band from the Nineties called Pantera.No matter how tired you may be of "supergroups," after considering the stature of the musicians involved in this project, there's no denying that this band definitely has a boatload of potential.It sounds like the members of Hellyeah had an extremely good time making their eponymous debut.This album is a really mixed bag of material."Goddarn" storms back onto the scene with driving riffs, a pounding rhythm, and another irresistibly catchy chorus; and set closer "One Thing" marches to the album's finish line with a rumbling, crunching wall of guitar noise.Ultimately, "Hellyeah" makes for an enjoyable listen which will satisfy all fans of Pantera and Mudvayne, but it does nothing to enhance any of the band members' legacies.Was this review helpful to you?Mudvayne and Nothingface was an interesting one.For those not in the know, Hellyeah is comprised of vocalist Chad Grey and guitarist Greg Tribbett, of Mudvayne, and Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell and bassist Jerry Montano in tow with the legendary Vinnie Paul on drums.Nothing more, nothing less.Unfortunately for the remaining four members of Hellyeah, having Paul in the band has drastically rasied the stakes.It's only natural that people want something on the same level as Pantera and some riffs that live up to Dimebag's memory.Tribbett and Maxwell combined don't equal Dimebag, but in their defense, they put in quite an effort.Grey pulls the same vocal tricks here as he does with Mudvayne, so your enjoyment of this album hinges mostly on whether or not you're a Mudvayne fan.But all Mudvayne and Pantera talk aside, let's just talk about the music."Alchohaulin'" is a laid back, good times track that steps out of the predictable in a big way.Like it or not, at least they took a chance.Hellyeah and in all honesty, it's not fair.Dime surely can't be playing guitar anymore, so you'd be doing yourself a big favor listening to this album if you just kept that in mind."Hellyeah" doesn't step out of the comfort zone of any of the original bands it was spawned from, so if you're a fan, it's going to sound good to you.But if you're expecting Vinnie to be playing with the elitist of the elite, the best of the best, you'll more than likely be disappointed with each song Hellyeah deliver.Just don't take it seriously, and you might actually enjoy it.Was this review helpful to you?If you can hear me now, there's one thing I've got to say (3.PREDICTION: Every single person who hates Hellyeah will use a play on words to mess up their name (i.Huge fans will cuss a lot whilst describing how "f*cking badda*s" they are.Hellyeah to a certain degree, Vinnie Paul and Chad Grey are the two that piqued my interest the most however.You Wouldn't Know and Waging War are the first signs of weakness.The vocals aren't great, the lyrics aren't great, and even the music is lacking.Defintely reminescent of days gone by.Thank You has all the potential in the world to be overly corny and unwanted but ends up being another standout.Rotten To The Core, Nausea, and One Thing are all songs that can be passed over.None have a really redeeming quality to them and none are particularly noteworthy.My favorite songs are Hellyeah, Matter Of Time, Alcohaulin' Ass, Star, and Thank You.With a lineup as good as Hellyeah's though, it's hard not to get sucked into the hype.CD, just know what you're getting yourself into.Even if you despise Hellyeah and all they stand for, one thing can be agreed upon without question, seeing Vinnie Paul making music again is a great thing to see.Was this review helpful to you?Shipping took almost a month
