Recorded live on October 19, 2007 in Toronto, enjoy this sneak preview of "Perfectly Clear," a song that Jewel has recorded for her upcoming album. She has been successful with each step in her career and I am continually amazed by her natural talent. She is a big star that has yet to reach its zenith and I couldn't be more proud to kick off this new label with her as the flagship artist.Jewel is set apart her whole career for not only singing, but writing all her songs, and this album is no exception.Perfectly Clear is produced by Jewel and John Rich of Big and Rich fame.Jewel has spent a lot of time in Nashville over the last few years, and has naturally been drawn to and accepted by the Nashville music community. In addition, she was a presenter on the Country Music Association Awards show with Ty Murray on November 7th 2007.If I were discovered today, there is no doubt that I would be signed as a country artist.Sitting around a campfire on her ranch in Alaska, as a young girl, Jewel was first exposed to songwriting by her father and it has carried with her throughout her career. Both of her parents, Atz and Nedra, enjoyed making local records and performing; and, along with her brothers, Jewel (her given name) accompanied her parents on tours through native villages. At fifteen, she went her own way, performing solo for the first time and earning a vocal scholarship to Interlochen, a private arts school in Michigan where she also majored in visual art.It was here she learned guitar and began writing songs, inspired by a love of reading at a young age.The writers I returned to again and again were the ones that were brutally honest, willing to show themselves as heroic at times, grotesque at others.Heartfelt songwriting became not only an emotional outlet, but a means of survival. She was 16 at the time and had no idea that song would, a mere three years later, become the first single from her first album, offering not just a days meal ticket, but meteoric success.Jewel was signed to Atlantic Records close to her 19th birthday.Pieces of You, sold about 3000 copies, nearly all in San Diego, in the nine months after its February 1995 debut. So, Jewel hit the road with a vengeance, playing four shows a day in 40 cities.Hard work and heartfelt songwriting, not to mention an exquisitely expressive voice, paid off.Her extraordinary voice and engaging stage presence have earned her acclaim throughout North America, Asia, Australia and Europe. The audiobook version received the 1999 Audie Award from the Audio Publishers Association.Becoming a staple on television, from talk shows to Saturday Night Live and Mad TV, Jewel also guest starred on the NBC drama The Lyons Den, playing a lawyer opposite series star Rob Lowe.Copyright 2004 Albertsons, Inc.Copyright 2004 Albertsons, Inc.Copyright 2004 Albertsons, Inc.Copyright 2004 Albertsons, Inc.The introduction of this article is too short. Please discuss this on the talk page and read the lead section guide to ensure it summarizes the article.Jewell Caples, see Jewell (singer).USO concert aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75) in the Mediterranean.American singer, songwriter, actress, poet and philanthropist, generally known just by her first name, Jewel. She is the cousin of actress Q'Orianka Kilcher.During high school, Jewel was known to spell her name "Jule" or "Juel," but she attributes this to simply playing with her name.Jewel learned to play the guitar while on scholarship at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, where she majored in operatic voice. She started writing songs at the age of seventeen. Her friend Steve Poltz's band, The Rugburns, played the same venues.Jewel later collaborated with Poltz on some of her songs, including " You Were Meant For Me."The Rugburns opened for Jewel on her Tiny Lights tour in 1997.Poltz appeared in Jewel's band on the Spirit World Tour 1999 playing guitar.Flea) of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers met Jewel after he saw her perform at a local cafe.Jewel was discovered by Inga Vainshtein in August of 1993, when a musician from a local San Diego band, Rust, whom Vainshtein was managing at the time, called to tell her about a girl surfer who sang at a local coffee shop on Thursdays.Vainshtein drove to Innerchange coffee shop with a rep from Atlantic Records, and after the show they called Danny Goldberg, the head of Atlantic Record's west coast operations, and asked him to pay for Jewel's demo.Vainshtein eventually became Jewel's manager, and was instrumental in creating a major bidding war, which led to Jewel's deal with Atlantic Records. She cut her debut album, Pieces of You, when she was nineteen and it was released in 1995.Jewel recorded "Pieces of You" in a studio on Neil Young's ranch, and was backed by his band, The Stray Gators, who played on Neil Young's "Harvest" and "Harvest Moon" albums. The album spawned the Top 10 hits "You Were Meant for Me", "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games."She was introduced as "San Diego's own Jewel!"This was especially noticeable due to her missing her cue and not mouthing the first words. In November 1998, Jewel released her second album, Spirit.Billboard 200 and sold over 4 million copies in the U.The songs "Hands" and "Down So Long" hit the Top 10.Other singles followed, a new version of "Jupiter (Swallow The Moon), "What's Simple Is True", the theme song to her upcoming movie, and the charity single "Life Uncommon".In November 1999, Jewel released Joy: A Holiday Collection.Billboard 200 and sold over 1 million copies in the U.Jewel hit the Top 10 with the song "Standing Still" and the Top 40 with the song "Break Me".Other singles released were "This Way" and "Serve The Ego", the latter giving Jewel her first number one club hit.Later career
In 2003 Jewel released her album 0304.While some fans considered 0304 an innovative album that held to the tradition of her previous albums, others felt that it was too much of a change from the style of her previous albums. However, a number of Jewel's fans criticized her for abandoning her traditional folk style in exchange for a new pop sound.Accusations of "selling out" for personal gain, among other things, were made.It has a number of references to culture, including mentioning celebrities such as pop star Jennifer Lopez, model Kate Moss, magazines, film culture and commercialism. On May 2, 2006, Jewel released her sixth album, Goodbye Alice In Wonderland. The album sold 82,000 copies in its first week out.The second single, "Good Day", was released to radio in late June but failed to gain any traction on the radio airplay charts. It is notable in that it is the only Jewel album not to achieve Gold certification, even though it is arguably one of her best albums. As one music critic, Timothy Duggan, notes: "This album showcases Jewel's unique talent as a lyricist, alongside a definite growth in her musicianship. It is what 'Pieces of You' might have been had Jewel had the musical knowledge then that she has now.Currently, Jewel has released a video for the new song "Quest for Love" as the lead single from the new movie Arthur and the Invisibles. The song is only available on the soundtrack for Arthur and the Invisibles, which was released January 2007.In an interview with the Boston Globe, Jewel confirmed that she is no longer affiliated with a record label, confirming rumors that Atlantic Records failed to renew her contract after the lackluster sales of her latest album.Jewel's album is predicted to be out (at least a single on the radio) by the end of 2007.In November 2007, Jewel was signed to Valory Records, a new imprint of the independent Big Machine Records label.Film and theater
