m.That's when people want us to play.We don't have to do the two or three months at a time anymore.Pleased there is still a lot of interesting the band?Yeah, people still want to hear the good ol' music so I'm happy that we play a lot of fairs and casinos.People always seem to be there.Anything lined up for the support of Reach? So let's talk about the record.Ok, tell me about making it.Lead vocals were cut; we didn't really have a game plan going in.We did a bit of experimenting and it took a little while to get rolling in the studio. You have been promising an album for much of that time.Frankie just said things finally aligned. We have been talking about doing it for a long time but you have to make a living, you have to eat, so you gotta keep playing and when we do that for 2 or 3 months, that is what has kept us from doing it.We make money when we play live. No, I don't think so, I haven't heard anything about it.Frankie of the album, that it was a mellower kind of Survivor.Maybe the edge wore of a little, but I don't know that is a bad thing. If the songs are good it doesn't matter to me if it's soft or hard.As long as it's fun to listen to.Your vocals are also a little varied on the album. It sounded like there was no spit and polish on your vocals. They were a little rawer. What's with leaving Frankie to take control of singing on two tracks?Well, one song I wanted him to sing and one song I didn't want to sing. What about your favourite songs on there. That must have been a cool experience.Yeah, it was really great. You must be a proud dad.One More Chance really surprised me.Pretty much straight forward Survivor.I'm curious as to whether you think Jim Peterik might ever come back to the fold?Frankie was diplomatic about that question. You coming back was a surprise!Rhythm Of my Heart cut for the album.Where did the song originally come from? That was me Jim writing that when we first got back together years ago. That took a while to get done didn't it?The first time it was produced by Jim from Saga and the record label didn't like it at all.And then the guy to did do it with ended up running off!I'm hoping to do another solo record.Hard to throw these things together quickly.Do you have a home studio?Oh yeah, In fact I'm just about to open a club in town. And who else is involved in that? Are you thinking of putting together a release of these such tracks?I'm an okay singer, but as far as instruments go I'm not that great!Joe Walsh was living town and he and I went down to this club to see this band.We walk in and Joe gets up on stage and starts playing. It was kinda loud, so I walked back into the middle of the room.Yeah, so he died thinking you were a buffoon! So what's next for you now Jimi? That's all I think that needs to be talked about.Congratulations on the new album.I've heard it and reviewed it and I'm a big fan of it.It's the lead off review right now so.Actually my laptop is broken at the moment so I can't get online. How did the change come around? We always thought we had to follow a certain theme but I don't agree with that anymore.Klay Shroedel has done a very good job producing it.He played all the drums on the record. We were playing over in Germany and the promoter said why don't you do a record. It had been so long since we thought about recording a record even though we kept writing songs so he gave a tape to USG and they seemed to like it.Kinda like spot gigs for the last ten years. You have to pay the bills you know.If you don't mind I'd like to ask about the use of the name. There has actually been a couple of vigorous debates over this. After Jim said he didn't want to do it anymore and Sullivan said he wanted to go and produce bands.Survivor acoustic tracks as well.Survivor' promo thing going too.So I let Frank get back in the band for a little while and he played with us down in South America.Things however didn't work out between us and he left.Yeah, then it got messy there for several years didn't it?So that was just another reason to add to all the other reasons to keep on with 'Survivor'.Did it become more difficult to use the name after the original line up got back together minus Jim Peterik?Well it doesn't really bother me cause I know this bands is as good as theirs.Yes as a matter of fact I do.It was a whole different band when I got it, 'Survivor; with Dave was pretty much a new band as far as I'm concerned. We kept the same sound but it was different. You know the other guys didn't really treat me too well when I was in the band, I don't know if that was on purpose or accidental or what but I helped write a bunch of songs that I didn't get credit for. There was quite a bit of money involved and I really feel like I deserve to do it.Burning Heart and Rebel Son even? But because Jim actually started that song but I came up with the original idea for the other song and got jamming and wrote some lyrics first.Actually I got 2 songs from one track.Do you think there is a positive or negative impact on getting a record deal with the 'Survivor' name? The record company for sure wanted to use the name but we were more than willing to go under my name.As far as the Japan part, the company Apex they were more than willing to go under my name.Yeah, Scotty went under not long after it was released, didn't they? What about the fan reaction to the name debate?Yeah, I actually thought the live tracks were a little unnecessary, I thought the new material stood up very strongly on its own.CD would be extra bonus to see how the band sounds live. And it sounds like there is a different singer on Burning Heart? He had nothing else to sing so I let him come in and sing the high parts on this.He was with the band a long time and deserves to be on there.Cry Tough is a great track, great intro.I've always liked to song.I've noticed he has several tracks on the album? He's a songwriting partner in Nashville.Everybody from Kenny Rogers, to alternative rock.Whenever he and I get together it's just magic.Actually the Cobra stuff has been in high demand.Hard to find these days.To get everyone's attention, a little interest.I'm Always Here hasn't really been on anything other than the Baywatch soundtrack to date.Like the Bruce Hornsby kinda feel, the inspiration there.Like everyone else, I'm like a fan. There are a few people I talk to, that seem withdrawn from the whole scene, other than what they are doing.Otherwise how did they learn the music and how to play? It's a first for Survivor actually. We wrote that during the Too Hot Too Sleep album. In fact I played that for Jim Peterik a few years ago and he said that's the best song you've got that. It's a great song to play live.See I don't think the old Survivor back then had a big male audience.I'm a huge fan of Tom Cochrane and I nearly fell off my chair when you started playing Calling America.Originally I only had a blank disc without the track listing.USG played us that track initially. When we listened to the track we noticed how it really catches your attention.I'm a big fan of Tom's too.You know this is going to sound crazy but I'm still confused as to what the song is about. No not yet we start the tour in Dec, around the 22nd in Germany. There's not enough money in it to make a living.I'd love to come I've never been.So are you going to play the states? We don't have a release here yet.We are negotiating that at the moment with a couple of different labels.I'm sure we will get a deal.We need to go with the label most into it.It doesn't matter to me if it's a giant label or not it's the people that believe in us that I won't to go with.Yeah the trademark thing in Japan.Would that hold up a release in the states? No it has nothing to do with the U.You know I never even thought about filing it in Japan. It was my agent although I was mad when he did it.Things get cloudy and you can't see through it.As for right now I can't see it.Everything laid to rest.Well the only way that would work is if Jim Peterik came into the band really.Yeah I love that guy, I have ultimate respect for him.Anything else I can add for you?Well I think we covered the most important stuff, the stuff people want to know anyway.About the name and all that!Well s far as the name goes, I think nearly everybody knows what's going on don't they,
I think by now they do!My pleasure, talk to you soon. This article may require cleanup to meet Wikipedia's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can.Work on Greatest Hits Album

After the disappointing sales of Too Hot to Sleep, Jim Peterik, Frankie Sullivan decided to put the band on hiatus indefinitely.Jamison decided to continue touring and playing Survivor songs with local musicians. He subsequently recorded a solo album in 1990.After some success overseas touring in 1992, Sullivan contacted Jamison's management and asked to be included on the tour; he performed on eight to ten dates before leaving the group. For a short time Peterik, Sullivan, and Jamison were reunited in the studio to record new material for the new package and forthcoming world tour.As Jamison was also touring under the Survivor banner, Peterik and Sullivan filed a lawsuit against their former colleague for using the name. From 1993 to 1996, the trio (Peterik, Sullivan, and Bickler) recorded about 20 demos for a new album (the songs can be heard on the Fire Makes Steel bootleg) with session musicians.Unfortunately, they failed to secure a record deal due to the ongoing litigation and trademark issues.Peterik returned to recording and touring with the Ides of March and also formed the group Pride of Lions. In 1997, drummer Marc Droubay rejoined Survivor, while bassist Stephen Ellis quit.In late September 1999, Sullivan won ownership of the name "Survivor", thereby ending the ongoing trademark battle. The band then began recording material for a new album."Velocitized" was set for inclusion on the Soundtrack to the Sylvester Stallone film Driven. However, it did not make the cut.The "Real Men of Genius" Bud Light ads are widely popular and include TV spots aired on the 2006 Super Bowl, among others. On April 21, 2006, Survivor released a new album called Reach.Grove, a classically trained pianist, has been with the group for more than ten years since he replaced Peterik in July 1996.The band performed "Eye of the Tiger" on ABC's Dancing with the Stars on April 3, 2007.Coincidentally, he replaces Jim Peterik who produced the first Mecca album. The album is due out the first part of 2008 on Frontiers Records Worldwide.Year
