understanding the basic principle of how sound can be used for healing.Everything
is in motion and produces a sound or frequency.This includes the various
parts of our body, organs, bones, tissue, etc.When something is vibrating
out of harmony, we call this "disease".Sound is an energy that can entrain or change the vibrational rate of
objects.Therefore, if something is vibrating out of tune or harmony, it is
possible to create the correct, natural "resonant" frequency of the out of
tune object, project it to that out of tune portion and cause it to vibrate
back to its normal, healthy state.Pretty soon the entire string section sounds off.But what if it were possible to restore the sheet music
back to this violin player?And how could this be done?There are a number of different ways to do this.The frequency,
or frequencies, could be projected into the body via an instrument creating
this sound.There are now, a number of different instruments that do this,
including the Cymatics Instrument, invented by Dr.This is part
of what I teach in my workshops.The human voice is inexpensive, unlike many of these instruments.It does
not require batteries of electricity.In other words, with a little bit of experience an individual can
learn to make sounds that can be used to put ourselves into balance and
health.PSF: What's the physiological basis of this work?Well, ostensibly, of course, it's this idea that disease is really
an out of tuneness of the body.The question arises as to how this frequency (or sound) is determined.Intention is the consciousness that is
riding on the sound wave.The intention of the user
is the same.This, I believe is also why I like using the voice so much.We use the vowel sounds in conjunction with pitch and it's very
effective.What many of my students have
confirmed (and this is just anecdotal information) is that the frequencies
which they use many vary from day to day in regard to this.Technically, what I am talking about is music for the most
part.And so one
person's music is another person's sound and it gets very confusing this way.Well, it wasn't noise to me.So, I simply differentiate music and sound so that sound is composed of tones
that don't vary very much.Music seems to be very effective at working on the emotions
because it bypasses the logical part of the brain.Please be aware, incidentally, that it's possible to experience powerful
physical healings by balancing the emotional body.Many times, physical
ailments are actually aspects of blockages in the emotional body.When the
emotional body is healed, physical healing can occur.Sound Therapists seem to work more on the physical body.While I am director of the Sound Healers Association, it's pretty loose.It's a bit like the word of sound
healing is this huge pie and we can all take a piece of it and work with it.Others work with missing frequencies
and the voice.Others work with frequency and the organ, etc.How can sound and music do this?There are many many different ways.You get very
blissed out working with sound in this manner and it's non toxic and really
powerful.Listening to different music can also do this to you, but it's a bit more
active working with your own sound.When you make your own sounds, you are resonating not only your physical
body and your brain, but also your chakras and etheric fields.The effects
can be quite phenomenal.For example, chanting an "Om" sound for five
minutes while projecting the intention that this sound is instilling peace
within you will probably have that effect.Or chanting a mid range "Ah"
sound that's comfortable for you, while becoming aware that this sound is
resonating and aligning your heart center, located in the center of the

substances that people were embibing was also adding to this violent and negative atmosphere, but the music was too, and that night I had the strangest thought, because once again I had been playing music since I was about 15 years old, but now my thought was this: What if music could be used to make people feel good?For me, the amazement of it simply is that I had been playing for so long and never had had that thought before.Who or what came through to me?Then shortly after that I basically began to wonder: what about healing sound?Randall McClellan, who wrote an extraordinary book called The Healing Forces of Music, and taught the first college level course about using sound as a healing modality.There were a number of other well known people as well.Jonathan Goldman: Yes, in Massachusetts.What if I were to take this over and do it.And so all of a sudden the responsibility fell on me and the very first thing that I did was give it a name, because in certain traditions in order to help manifest something you name it.In the Old Testament, Adam and Eve named the different animals and stuff like that, helping to create manifestation.Teachers, scientists, medical doctors, spiritual masters, musicians, healers, and really all sorts of people who were engaged in some aspect or another with using sound and music for healing.Peter Guy Manners who was the creator of Cymatic Therapy, Kay Gardiner from Maine who was one of the great pioneers of sound healing and the author of Sound In The Inner Landscape, Sarah Benson, of course.Also Don Campbell who wrote a book The Mozart Effect used to present for us, as did the well known musician, Steven Halpern.Editor: What year was this?Jonathan Goldman: I founded it in 1982 and it still exists right now, but for about eight years we had meetings in the New England area.So we changed the name to the Sound Healers Association simply to reflect the global shift in consciousness in terms of using sound and music as a healing modality.During that time I went to Leslie University where I persuaded them that the idea of healing with sound was actually a possibility and that I could do research on this subject.The really great thing about the book is that the information in it is that it is still totally true and valid today.There was an electrician over at my house today doing some electrical work.He and his wife recently had a little girl.CD that I created over 19 years ago called Dolphin Dreams, and this was created for the birth of my son Joshua.It was actually the first commercially released recording that featured the sound of dolphins.It is probably one of the top ten, for want of a better term, New Age or therapeutic sound recordings for nearly ten years now.Perhaps that is a comment on how relevant they continue to be.Masaru Emoto who began to photograph water.But if the water was polluted then the water would look like mud.That was pretty interesting.How would that affect it?So then he used distilled water, which is pretty neutral, and he would expose it to different sounds.Some sounds made very specific and beautiful crystalline shapes, and other sounds, like certain forms of heavy metal music that probably had really powerful negative intent encoded upon it, made this water look like mud.Okay, well what if I worked simply with the concept of intentionality.He also put very negative words on as well.You make me sick, I want to kill you.He had simply written these words and put it on the water.Yet the difference was extraordinary.One of them is really polluted water from Japan, and it looks like mud, and then another one is the same water after a priest had chanted over it for about half an hour.When I first saw this, I was stunned.DOS operating system and the screen was a black screen with these amber letters on it.Jonathan Goldman: The basic idea of sound as a healing modality is simply this.The ancient mystics, the writers of the Old Testament, the New Testament, they all had this wisdom.The actual speaking of the word light creates light.Now sound, technically, travels as a wave form and these waves are measured in basically what are called cycles per second.Yet dolphins are able to have really huge communications about many different things I suppose.Whether or not we can actually hear this sound is a different story.Now let me ask you a question.What if we could somehow restore to this string player who has lost their sheet music the correct notes, the correct frequencies?Jonathan Goldman: I come from a family of doctors.This is the whole idea of using sound as a modality.What if we could somehow project the correct resonant frequency to that part of the body that is vibrating out of ease or out of harmony.Now let us return to my story and that time sitting in front of my computer.Yet both were claiming success.It is not only the frequency of the sound that creates its effect, but also the intention of the person creating the sound that creates this effect.Really the word, the frequency of the sound said one thing but the intentionality was very, very different, and we pick it up.So getting back again to Dr.Another aspect of this is simply using kinesiology, which is a method of muscle testing, and you can take this same sound and put two very, very different intentions on it and the effects will be very, very different.Editor: Now one day I was surfing the Internet and I came across a story about you which was the first time that I had read about you.It described this experience that you had down in Mexico, in a temple.You were in the darkness with a guide who had his flashlight and you and some friends, and this is one of those fascinating stories.You had gotten down inside there, it was pitch black, and he turned out the light, and he knew that you did toning and worked with sound and asked you to project sound toward the doorway there.Jonathan Goldman: Well the amazing phenomenon was that I made this sound and the room became slightly illuminated.Everyone in the room experienced this phenomenon of seeing light and being able to see each other.Then the guide turned his flashlight on and we continued.United States because we were down there during what is called the Harmonic Convergence.Probably about 20 years ago.Healing Sounds I spend a few pages at least contemplating how this possibly could have been.Editor: Well that one has always fascinated me and I just thought that if I ever had an opportunity to ever talk with you I wanted to mention that.We blew some of his vessels there and meditated there, and it was quite an experience.Details of this are on the website too!Jonathan Goldman: Oh great!Don Wright, that we take around.Editor: Off hand, it sounds kind of like a didge.Jonathan Goldman: It does, it does.Anyway, I had been fascinated by this extraordinary deep voice sound and I was trying to create it but to no avail.He and I became very friendly and he would come visit with me.It was my great honor to produce, record and co create an album with Lama Tashi called Tibetan Master Chants, that was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2006.Going out to Hollywood and being at the Grammy Awards with a Tibetan monk was an amazing experience.Lama Tashi received massive press coverage, including almost a full page in USA Today.Colorado to teach at the 9 day long Healing Sounds Intensive.Science Section of the New York Times, from 1988.What sort of conditions can be healed with sound?In Tibetan medicine, it is said that healing occurs through three phenomena: The first is the belief of the healer in the medicine, the second is the belief of the person receiving the healing energy in the healer, and the third is the karma between the two.It was basically, really, the relationship you had with them in terms of the work that they were able to do.It is my understanding that we are all unique vibratory beings and that what works for one person will not necessarily work for another person.How many of you are allergic to penicillin?Now if everything in the universe is a wave form, then this will include pharmaceuticals, and here we have penicillin will heal 80 to 95 percent of you, but it will also be toxic from anywhere to 5 to 20 percent of you.Who do you believe and what do you believe?Woodstock Nation and I grew up playing music.It was a form of heavy metal music that was really, really harsh.It was created to be that way.Jonathan Goldman: I really try and understand all different aspects of music, yet the more that I learn about music the more I become aware of the power of music to effect us on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level.Jonathan Goldman: Maybe something a little more intense!Yet at the same time I think that for younger folks who listen to it, this music will indeed wake them up and gets the adrenal pumped up, etc.It would be wonderful, if we could all become aware of the power of sound and use it consciously.For example, the effects of really loud sounds will affect everyone pretty much the same way.If I was all of a sudden going to shout really loud, the sound would go into your ear and it would cause an increase in your heartbeat, your respiration, and your brainwave activity.These loud sounds would actually affect your immunological system.So there are certain sounds that by their very nature are not particularly positive in terms of the way that they affect us and we need to be aware of that.Jonathan Goldman: The Secret Life of Plants?Jonathan Goldman: Okay, wait now.So with that in mind, that plants are sensitive to our thoughts, and then also as my friend Gregg Braden has talked about in his books, including The Divine Matrix, the fact that when you are able to measure thoughts or consciousness, then time and space are no longer limitations.Jonathan Goldman: I think so.Boulder, around close to two miles up in the atmosphere, or about 9000 feet, and Boulder is about 5000 feet, and in order to get home at night I would have to ride up this really winding road.Indian music or Tibetan chanting.Once again, if we can sample from the different types of music, including heavy metal, depending upon the time and the space and the need of the individual, it will be great.Now Brent, I want to tell you about what I think is a very, very important project.One of the really powerful and important things about sound is this: sound amplifies intent.Jonathan Goldman: It is in the manifestation stages.The possibilities are limitless.All the various global meditations and global sound healings are enormously beneficial.Perhaps awareness of the power of sound and The Temple of Sacred Sound will be pivotal in our next step towards evolutionary acceleration.Google
