| Linkin Park live in Prague, 2007.Linkin Park is a rock band from Agoura Hills, California.With their debut album, Hybrid Theory, they achieved their initial mainstream success; the album was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005.After graduating from high school, the California natives began to take their musical interests more seriously, recruiting Joe Hahn, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, and Mark Wakefield to perform in their band then titled Xero.Tensions and frustration within the band grew after they failed to land a record deal.After spending a considerable time searching for Wakefield's replacement, Xero recruited Arizona vocalist Chester Bennington.Jeff Blue, the vice president of Zomba Music, had referred him to the band in March 1999.However, the band still struggled to sign a record deal despite these changes.Having endured numerous rejections from several major record labels, Linkin Park turned to Jeff Blue for help.After failing to catch Warner Bros.Records, helped the band sign a deal with the company in 1999.Linkin Park released Hybrid Theory on October 24, 2000.Crawling and One Step Closer established themselves as staples among alternative rock radio play lists during the year.Ozzfest, Family Values Tour and KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas.The band also formed their own tour, Projekt Revolution, which featured other notable artists such as, Cypress Hill, Adema, and Snoop Dogg.Linkin Park had performed at over 320 concerts.The experiences and performances of the precocious band were documented in their first DVD, Frat Party at the Pankake Festival, which debuted in November 2001.Reanimation claimed the second spot on the Billboard 200, and sold nearly 270,000 copies during its debut week.Following the success of Hybrid Theory and Reanimation, Linkin Park spent a significant amount of time touring around the United States.Meteora featured a mixture of the band's previous nu metal and rapcore styles with newer innovative effects, including the induction of a shakuhachi (a Japanese flute made of bamboo) and other instruments.Music videos for some of the album's singles, including Somewhere I Belong, Breaking the Habit, Faint and Numb, received significant radio attention.By October 2003, Meteora sold nearly three million copies.The album's success allowed Linkin Park to form another Projekt Revolution, which featured other bands and artists including, Mudvayne, Blindside, and Xzibit.The band released an album and DVD, entitled Live in Texas, which consisted of audio and video tracks of some of the band's performances in Texas during the tour.In early 2004, Linkin Park started a world tour titled the Meteora World Tour, supporting bands on the tour include Hoobastank, P.Linkin Park also received significant recognition during the 2004 Radio Music Awards, winning the Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (Numb) awards.Following Meteora's success, the band postponed working on a new studio album for the next few years.Instead, Linkin Park continued to tour and work on many side projects.State of the Art and other work with Dead By Sunrise, while Shinoda did work with Depeche Mode.Z, Fort Minor released their debut album, The Rising Tied, to critical acclaim.Records was deteriorating rapidly on account of several trust and financial issues.Linkin Park also participated in numerous charitable events.Linkin Park helped raise money to benefit victims of Hurricane Charley in 2004 and later Hurricane Katrina in 2005.Linkin Park returned to the recording studios in 2006 to work on new material.Minutes to Midnight, would be released on May 15, 2007 in the United States.The album's first single, "What I've Done" was released on April 2, and premiered on MTV and Fuse within the same week.Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts."Bleed It Out", the second single from Minutes to Midnight, was released August 20, 2007, slightly over a month before "Shadow of the Day", the third single, was released in the UK on October 8, and the U.Linkin Park's touring and live shows have, among other things, included a performance at Live Earth Japan on July 7, 2007.Rolling Stone called "Breaking the Habit" "risky, beautiful art."In Minutes to Midnight the band experimented with their established sound and sees them drawing influences from a wider and more varied range of genres and styles, a process Los Angeles Times compares to a stage in U2's work.Linkin Park's use of two separate vocalists has become a large part of their music.Mike Shinoda is way to shoot video reviews.An aggressive guitar driven track with some really awesome dj scratching.Chester Bennington (singer) mixes up the verses with some awesome screaming.One of my favorites, Hit The Floor features some spectacular samples, skull crushing riffs and screaming, and some real tricky rapping from Mike Shinoda (emcee).Though the rapping part is alright, Chester's chorus is revoltingly sappy and boring.Actually, his voice reminds me of Creed in this song (if that's good or bad, you decide).High Voltage (another Linkin Park rap song), and some singing in the chorus.Though I'm not a big straight rap fan, I like this track quite a bit.Though its conceptually evocative of Cure for the Itch, the layering of sounds and seriously wicked dj solo make this far better than any of Linkin Park's past instrumentals.Overall, this album is musically more advanced and distinguished than Linkin Park's past attempts.Newcomers to LP won't be disappointed, but I think long time fans will find them selves yearning for the band's former punch.Whether this a good thing or a bad thing, it's safe to say Linkin Park have survived their sophmore outing and escaped the "sophmore slump."After "Reanimation", I was wondering just how much Linkin Park were planning on using their guitars on their sophmore release.But, with "Meteora", it's also safe to say that the guitars are very much involved.There are some good, swirling riffs and a couple of good DJ scratches on this song.All of which would've made this song a good single."Nobody's Listening" is more of a straight forward rap song, with another good chorus, while "Session" is an instrumental which echoes "Cure for the Itch".Linkin Park have made more of a straight forward rock C.The end result is a record which should please all of their fans.If you are sick of the radio singles, I urge you to check out the rest of the album, because there are several more good songs on here, and even a few great ones.But it has many great songs layered in their successful blending of rock with rap and comes out with a good effort.This is the enhanced CD version that comes out with great multimedia content.The video of 'Somewhere I Belong' was the highlight and shinoda has a great voice almost reminiscent of Aaron Lewis from Staind.The hit song from this album became and for good reason, 'Somewhere I Belong', it shows Linkin Park at their full potential with gritty lyrics and a delivery that is amazing.My other favourite songs from this album were 'Faint', 'Breaking the Habit' and 'Sessions'.Was this review
