That band could have been the biggest band that ever was.We had success after we
had given up.This page is dedicated to one of the most underrated bands of all time: Mott the Hoople.Mott the Hoople, one of the seminal glam rock bands of the 1970's, established a cult
following both in the U.Mott), has generously provided the Unofficial
Mott the Hoople home page with some biographical information and (international) discography.Fisher, as
you might recall, replaced Verdan Allen, who left after the All the Young
Dudes tour (cf.Fisher's background includes some experience working with punk artists,
which is interesting since Mott the Hoople is said to be an influence on
many punk rock bands (some say that Mott was one of the few early 1970's
bands which remained credible with punks).Over the past decade or so, he
has worked extensively in Japan as a keyboardist.Again, we
at the Unofficial Mott the Hoople home page extend a special thanks to Morgan Fisher for providing
us this information.Nutritional Information

Street, Penicton BC.The albums also includes unreleased Mott The Hoople demos (Can You Sing The Song That I Sing and Chosen Road), new tracks by Overend Watts, Verden Allen and Dale Griffin, a demo of Silence backing vocalist Jon Best, a track by The Buddies featuring Mick Ralphs, and more.Glam rock isn't taken very seriously these days. The mortally wounded Mott stumbled through a couple more albums and watched the glam fad fade.Hunter soon quit himself, and a mock "Mott" populated by the rhythm section and some hired guns continued for a couple more albums and then vaporized.Although Ronson died in the early 90s, Hunter and Bad Company are still around.JA)
Lineup:
Verden Allen (organ), "Buffin" Griffin (drums, backing vocals), Ian Hunter (vocals, keyboards, guitar), Mick Ralphs (guitar, some keyboards, lead vocals), Overend Watts (bass).Mott The Hoople (1969)
There's a cover here of the Kinks' "You Really Got Me"; "Rock And Roll Queen" was their first single.Ralphs sings lead on all four of his contributions, with his steady, smooth high tenor sounding quite professional.Original Mixed Up Kids (rec."Death May Be Your Santa Claus (How Long)," with the same chugging rock 'n' roll formula they recycled on such tunes as "All The Way From Memphis").All The Young Dudes (1972)
At this point David Bowie had become a megastar and decided to prove his multifaceted talents by producing other acts like Lou Reed (not coincidentally, the record kicks off with a solid cover of Reed's classic "Sweet Jane").Bowie's rebellious lyrics making it an early 70s teenage anthem.Get your hands on this if you have any interest in the band. The easy, confident vibe is irresistable, and there are enough quality tunes and cheeky studio gimmicks to keep you interested."Hymn For The Dudes"; "Ballad Of Mott The Hoople"), and you can see why Hunter and Ralphs were about to go in different directions.JA)
Mott The Hoople Live (1974)
I have this one, and it's solid despite the absence of Mick Ralphs. It ends with a lengthy, raving medley that's practically worth the price of admission by itself.JA)
Drive On (1975)
For whatever reason, Ian Hunter now quit to start a solo career.Mott's glam rock formula (the quirky sock hop anthem "Life After Death"), but mostly just delivers generic, entertaining AOR."Cleveland Rocks" is one of Hunter's most engaging and commercial rockers, with a pounding piano line, blistering lead guitar, and heavily repeated refrain.Springsteen's E Street Band (Roy Bittan, keyboards; Gary Tallent, bass; Max Weinberg, drums), plus sax players Lew Delgatto and George Young.JA)
All Of The Good Ones Are Taken (Hunter: 1983)
I don't really know much about this other than that Ronson appears only as a guest.Mostly entertaining and probably a good buy for fans.CD, working mostly in Norway. |
