Daintycrew.DJs in Jamaican history?Well, big respect to Shaggy 2 because he came through and linked us with Ninja and lo and behold, Ninja even came to us!Mercedes CLK convertible that had brought Ninja to us and we proceeded to question the main man himself.Born Desmond Ballentine 36 years ago in St.Mary, Jamaica and raised in Kingston, Ninja Man got his name as he constantly reminds people, because "Only a Ninja can kill a Ninja".He added at the time of the interview, "Nutten can cross my border an' survive".Ninja Man's foray into DJing was not his decision, he believes "God have that for me still cah me was a lickle yout' weh get de break in '88 an' me mek use a it".The break was Ninja Man going into the studio with Courtney Melody and Shabba Ranks, doing songs with them and also Junior Cat who was at the studio at the time and all three songs becoming hits!Ninja Man says, "Me just keep on an' don't stop".Roy, but currently he likes Bounty Killer.Ninja Man is emphatic when he says, "Bounty Killer a my DJ.Beenie Man a my star still, but Bounty Killer a my favourite artist".Known as a lyrical genius when it comes to on the spot lyrics and clashing with other DJs on stage, Ninja Man reckons he gets all his inspiration from his "surroundings", but has never written down a word of his songs on paper, "I never use a pen and paper yet baby love.As if lyrical prowess was not enough, Ninja Man also produces and he produced his own first single called 'Protection' on the Killamanjaro label back in 1988.Now, we all know that there was the big talk when Ninja Man decided to where he was supposedly defeated by Merciless."If you's a sportsman, you must learn to enjoy the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.If clash, is a dearer money than plain DJ an' if you wan' me me"!After being in the business since 1988, we were sure Ninja Man had been everywhere he wanted to on tour, but he said, "Iraq".Ninja Man would like to go to Iraq for the first time on tour so he can "see if dem people down deh really mad like dem seh all weh Bin Laden come from".When our laughter died down, Ninja Man then told us how he felt about the current state of Dancehall music.Again, some going on in the industry between artists.He said, "Music is a mission, not a competition as Capleton seh.How many people watched the movie 'Third World Cop'?Did you recall seeing Ninja Man in the film?Ninja Man says, "Me's a born actor" and this must be so as he has done 'Third World Cop', at the time of the interview he had just finished filming 'Rudebwoy' and reckoned he had "About 5 more (films) line up".Ninja Man has worked with numerous artists as well as producers with some notable names being Bobby Digital, Jammys, Witty, Bounty Killer, Courtney Melody, Tinga Stewart and Sizzla.Ninja Man has produced artists such as Spice, Baby Wayne, Thriller U, John Wayne and himself.Friends are important to Ninja Man and when there was a problem between him and his friend Junior Reid due to them both having studios too close to each other, Ninja Man decided "friendship more important" and he gave away his studio equipment.When asked what was the biggest thing of his career so far, Ninja Man stated, "Me man!Maybe Ninja Man should add another string to his bow of comedian as we laughed nuff during this interview.So, what if Ninja Man had never got into the DJ game?Laugher once again erupts, but Ninja Man continued, "We a go fe it serious, yuh see weh me a seh"?Ninja Man knows young people look up to him and realises that "de youts dem weh idolise artists, they t'ink locked away on gun charges and he clarified this for Daintycrew."Dem hold me seh me have gun.Me deh a prison a mash up prison"!Aside from all of that though, Ninja Man enjoys spending time with his son when he's not DJing, producing or whatever else.As we concluded our interview, Daintycrew.Ninja Man has major aims and even more so, he's steadily achieving his goals.Ninja is coming to
