Bateman,Richard Bateman,Dan IzzoSounds Like..They radically changed the extreme metal scene 10 years ago by adding keyboards to their music.The name came from a Slayer song as Nocturnal Spectre's but Mike Browning had looked up in the dictionary the name and found Nocturnus, thus the name Nocturnus was born.This release in late 1989 caused an immediate stir in the death metal community as the first band of this type to incorporate keyboards full time into every song.After these two tours, Nocturnus settled in and recorded their next release, Thresholds.During this time Nocturnus picked up their 4th bass player, Emo Mowery, who came on board in time for the European Thresholds tour, which took place in 1991 with Confessor.Hereafter, the group and Mike Browning parted ways.Shortly after this, the band split up.Louis Panzer, Sean McNenney and Mike Davis decide to resurrect the Nocturnus phenomenon.Emo returns and takes the vocals and the third drummer, Rick Bizzaro, completes the line keyboard player Louis Panzer was the defining difference between the band and the rest of the Death Metal scene at the time.Formed in June 1988 when the aforementioned Browning departed the drum stool in Morbid Angel and hooked up with guitarist Mike Davis and original bassist Jeff Estes, the recruitment of Panzer added an extra dimension which shocked and attracted listeners in equal measures after the band issued their debut demo, 'The Science of Horror in November 1988.Just before signing with Earache in 1990 second guitarist Sean McNenney was added for the recording of the awesome first album 'The Key.Shortly thereafter bassist Estes left to be replaced by Jim O'Sullivan, formerly of Elysium.Death Metal fans, although the novelty wore of with the underrated 'Thresholds' album in 1992 which saw Dan Izzo handling vocal duties as Mike Browning concetrated solely on drums.Recently the band minus Browning reformed to produce another album titled 'Ethereal Tomb' for the French Seasons of Mist label but have now apparently called it a day once again.First, the band broke up in the beginning of '88, but came back on the middle of the same year, having only Mike Browning as original member, then they broke up again in 1993, reformed in 2000 but finally announced their final breakup in April or May of 2002.Over the next few days we should be able to explore a little more in depth
