Paik Heavy Industries (aka Paik Motors, Paik Automotive) is a company first named by Thomas Mittelwerk on The Lost Experience phone line during Day 1 and Day 2, in Bad Twin, and in other clues from the Lost Experience. The company is apparently based in South Korea. On the show, Paik is the surname of Sun's father.Paik seems an important businessman, it was initially noted that the surname is common.Indeed, in one of her Copenhagen blogs, Rachel Blake writes "The only thing I picked up was a name, "Paik."Which is pretty much the Korean "Jones"."Hangul script, confirming that the Paik from the Lost Experience is indeed the same Paik as the one on the show.Paik's office says the words "Paik Heavy Industries" in Korean.Jin is also shown wearing a coat with the Paik logo on, and is mentioned as being a floor manager for the company, before becoming a personal employee of Mr.Moments later, when Sun goes to see him, she interrupts Mr.Paik having a conversation with his associates.Translation has revealed that Paik was arguing about forged shipping documents which they were supposed to provide for the Hanso Foundation (or possibly vice versa).Paik warns that they must provide the equipment soon or their friends will become very annoyed (or possibly he will become very angry). You've reached the office of Dr.However, for those employees of Paik Heavy Industries

Born in Seoul, Paik had four older brothers and a father who worked as a textile manufacturer. In 1950, Paik and his family had to flee from their home in Korea, during the Korean War.His family first fled to Hong Kong, but later moved to Japan, for reasons unknown. He wrote a thesis on composer Arnold Schoenberg. While studying in Germany, Paik met the composers Karlheinz Stockhausen and John Cage and the conceptual artists Joseph Beuys and Wolf Vostell.Paik was inspired to work with electronic art.Electronic Television, in which he scattered televisions everywhere, and used magnets to alter or disort their images. In 1964, Paik moved to New York, and began working with classical cellist Charlotte Moorman, to combine his video, music, and performance. When Moorman drew her bow across the "cello," images of both her playing, and images of other cellists playing appeared on the screens. With this, Paik could both move and record things, for it was the first portable video and audio recorder. From there, Paik became an international celebrity, known for his creative and entertaining works. In another work, Something Pacific (1986), a statue of a sitting Buddha faces its image on a closed circuit television.Another piece, Positive Egg, displays a white egg on a black background.Electronic Superhighway: Continental U.Lincoln Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, is a stunning example of his exceptional vision and unique interpretation of cultural criticism. With this piece, Paik offers up an unsettling commentary about an American culture obsessed with television, the moving image, and bright shiny things.Instead of exploring our country, we can flip on the tube and watch the Travel Channel.Instead of searching the web or paper for a great place to have dinner on Saturday night, we drive down the street and choose the one with the most appealing signage.Paik was also known for making robots out of television sets. These were constructed using pieces of wire and metal, but later Paik used parts from radio and television sets.Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (Washington, D.Paik's work was held at the Whitney Museum of American Art in the spring of 1982.Orwell, a live link between WNET New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, and South Korea.Laurie Anderson, Joseph Beuys, Merce Cunningham, Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky, George Plimpton, and other artists, Paik showed that George Orwell's Big Brother hadn't arrived. In 1986, Paik created the work Bye Bye Kipling, a tape that mixed live events from Seoul, South Korea, Tokyo, Japan and New York.In 1996, Nam June Paik had a stroke, which left him partially paralyzed. This coincided with a downtown gallery showing of video artworks by his wife Shigeko Kubota, mainly dealing with his recovery from the stroke.Nam June Paik died January 29, 2006, in Miami, Florida, due to natural causes.Stuart Collection (University of California, San Diego), and the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis, Minnesota) are among the public collections holding work by Nam June Paik.Be Buried in Homeland", The Korea Times, January 31, 2006.Dies", The Chosun Ilbo, January 30, 2006."Video artist Nam June Paik dead at 74", CNN, January 30, 2006."Are you sure you want to block this user?Band MembersRyan PrittsRob SmithAnthony Petrovic

hbx."The Worlds of Nam June Paik," Feb.Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Avenue, New York, N.Global Groove, Living Theater, Action Music.Born in Korea in 1932, Paik studied music and art history at the University of Tokyo before moving to Germany in 1956.Paik came to New York in 1964, as a composer and musician, and eventually became known as the father of video art.Video Fish (1975) features aquariums in front of TV screens, a piece that has stretched out to a row of 25 modules. He fuses technology with life in TV Garden (1974), here in a lavish new installation in which some 30 or 40 monitors are dispersed in and amongst lush green plants. The show features only one of Paik's "Family of Robot" (1986), which seemed to overpopulate the art boom of the '80s.If you look for long enough past the endless flickering, the images read like an autobiography of the artist and his time. Here are black and white photos of the artist's earliest Fluxus actions, along with frayed news clips about Paik and his adventures. At the press preview, I watched while Paik sat among his artifacts, contentedly scratching at a microphone connected to a video monitor. Many of the artifacts in this gallery document Paik's legendary collaborations with the late cellist Charlotte Moorman, who once was arrested by the New York City police for her topless performance of one of his works.Moorman brought sexiness and eroticism to Paik's television sculptures. He created for her pieces like TV Bra for Living Sculpture (1969), in which the images on two small televisions attached to her breasts are manipulated by the act of her bowing the cello.Paik told me, "Charlotte was born about 50 years ahead of her time.Paik has also demonstrated how much mileage he can get out of very little.Artnet Worldwide Corporation, New York, NY. |
