Yep, been over a week since we wandered into the depths of Fantom Studio and sealed the door behind us.Also all bass lines were laid down.What a massive burden has Janne Saksa carried on our previous albums..This time the material is far more aggressive and requires certain type of roughness so perhaps one way to achieve it is to give us about 3 or 4 months time to write, arrange, rehearse, record and mix most of the material for the album and leave us to produce it ourselves.We have had to admit time and again that by no means putting together a full length album from scratch in a time in which most people refuse even to take a shit is the easiest thing in the world.Hell, at least it will be raw and furious.What else have we learned in there?Laihanen which gives you a sneak peek into a drummer's life behind the set.Last but not least
Each album has had a song added within the last week before entering studio, Turmoil had Just Names Remain, Fearrage had DNA of a god.Friday to begin recording Purgatory of the Second Sun.At least one more track is on it's way to the album but we are already pushing it now as the 8 songs clock in around 38 minutes.As a special treat for those who hang on and check out our site frequently we will put up a few audio clips and a short video clip from demo recording session.Those will most definitely give you an idea what kind of hell is about to be unleashed.Just a good old name that gives you a not so pretty idea about what will be ahead of us if a galactic disaster breaks out OR when you plug in the next Pain Confessor album.It will be a metal album, totally.Not to mention another new tune that still lacks a title.As it may be evident from all the news on our website and stuff like that Pain Confessor is working on the third yet untitled album, a follow up to Fearrage and kind of a cornerstone in the bands career in certain ways.Many things have happened that sucked, were fucked up and really pissed us off.The wake of Fearrage most certainly helped build up the ferocity that will become Pain Confessor official album Number Three.We have NEVER written this angry stuff, ever.The first song that we began working at with the new album in mind.Song starts with a bass and drum riffing, then introduces guitar heaviness and some melodic aspects, chorus mixes a lot of finnish melancholy with pretty groovy rocking stuff.Wesleyer brought this tune at the rehearsals and we slowly started to pick up his ideas about the song.Pretty poetic despair in the lyrics, this one will be a killer.Oh well, that's all for now.Crossing the last line
Pain Confessor is now crossing the finishing line concerning the recordings of the yet unnamed second album.The end result will most definitely be a worthy successor to our debut Turmoil.Even though keyboards still are not our main lead instrument Pasi has really introduced more variety and taken some cool steps to make our songs even better.Sounded so sweet I need to go get a shot of insulin.The guy has so huge sound that it still amazes me...Technical newsflash: Bass sound was distorted by using Peavey 5150.Around noon today we had some Celebrity Deathmatch 1 on 1, Make and I.Wolfman ate Justin Timberlake, which was damn great.Now if only that could happen in real life...Let's see if something damn hilarious happens so I get to report something!Butterfly got some melodic candy, I was particularly happy with the end result.Our newest song, DNA of a God, was a challenge for me as there was very guideline type of melodies in the song that needed to be honed into real killer ones.We got a really nice build up in the end of the song.Guitar day 8: Fiddle fiddle fiddle
Tweedlydoo!Feardom, Another Door and Fall on Evil Days now have all their lead guitars played and await vocals and keyboards.Powerball and Behringer together gave so damn good punch and clarity to my lead sound that I didn't even bother with the Marshall.Wesleyer's Kramer as she stays in better tune than my Ibanez.Tomorrow's plan is to do as many lead tracks for the rest of the songs as possible so Make can fully concentrate on his vocals next week.Did I mention that the bass sound is beefy as hell?This all happened within about a week.Wouldn't it be easier for all if they kept him in jail without occasionally letting him out?Butterfly, Fall on evil days, Another Door, Pathetic Little Soul).Sounds beefed up, distorted and heavy exactly as it should.Great stuff and I'm sure there is more to come!We are getting on with the process evidently, as about every rhythm track is now in place (4 per song, 2 of Wesleyer's, 2 of Tuomas') except Fall on Evil Days which I will play tomorrow to finalize the rhythm session.While it may sound like wanking with every single note in there, this method makes the songs more roomy and "alive".Marshall tone and I want to destroy the fucking speaker.Powderburns has a quite sweet riff that had us going nuts, really heavy song, as death metal as Pain Confessor will get.Make made a welcome pass at Nemesis blowing away everyone in the studio, which is simply amazing feat in itself.Good thing he still lives.Yep yep, tomorrow we will record more stuff so we will keep you posted about our latest happenings.That's gonna be sweet...Today it was all hell breaking loose for me.Tinnitus peak in the morning and that scared the shit out of me.So off with me, enter Wesleyer.Wes banged the songs for a few bucks worth and got Ruin, Nemesis and one track of Butterfly done.Guitar day 2: MacGyver 'n' Tipitii
This day saw us chugging in DNA of a God and Another Door.DNA being our newest song, it was refreshing to play and also proved to be very easy.Miami Vice and Samantha Fox...Guitar day 1: Hell yeah!Today we finally got to toy around with guitar sounds and even tried to record something.Not the ENGL, the Marshall.Marshall just for the fuck of it.We shall see what kind of crap comes out of that experiment.Wesleyer and I bagged Pathetic Little Soul for starters and damn it sounded promising.My Powerball sits in there waiting for possible lead guitar assignment and that cardboard box named Marshall probably waits to get blown up within the next 2 weeks.My personal thought, but feel free to quote me on that.Anguish, frustration and determination to kick some serious ass
Today was brutal.Perhaps the weekend had reigned over us in such a manner that even the simplest riff proved to be almost impossible to play straight.Last but not least we recorded Ruin, our planned opener for the album.Now that all the drums are done, it's time for Janne (Saksa, producer, engineer) to do some editing and mixing so we can proceed to lay down some guitars.Can't wait to get on with this!The night had been rough and the bars took no prisoners.Wesleyer appeared sometime amidst my beauty sleep, offering me a cold beer which I turned down even to my own surprise.Our velvet voiced vocalist Make came to hang around for a few minutes, mostly drinking coffee and interrupting my most vivid, slimy and morbid dreams every now and then.Ron Jeremy (tough hedgehog), Anna Nicole Smith (not so tough piece of blubber), Marilyn Manson (don't care for the music, but the dude had some serious knives stashed up his sleeves!Busta Rhymes, whom we beat up way more than once.Such wonderful times we had, it was almost a crying shame we had to stop playing around and start playing some songs for our sophomore album.So we went in and recorded Another Door and Life Keeps Bleeding.Tech info if anyone gives a flying duck: Guitars will be recorded using ENGL Powerball head and Behringer speakers, I even planned on trying out a Marshall JCM speaker for leads even if it's going to be in vain coz I eventually will use the Behringer.Booster and wanted to say that the thing really adds to his tone.More crap tomorrow, Tuomas signing off!Coffee was not so surprisingly a success throughout the day.First day behind us and first base track recorded.We originally planned on using a click track for all the songs but after trying out Pathetic Little Soul with a click and without one, we decided to get rid of the cowbell for this groovy and rocking track.For techie wankers we will be posting some equipment info as soon as we get to know what we use ourselves.After a rigorous rehearsal period we have 10 songs honed and tuned, so it's time to pack our gear and head on into the bowels of Studio Sound Supreme!Tomorrow we have to set up a base camp at 50 feet, stack the drum set and lay out some plans how to proceed from here on.Lots of coffee must be stored to last the whole month.If not before, the last few rehearsals have given plenty of reasons to say that the second album will be much heavier than Turmoil.We have really heavy stuff like Powderburns, Butterfly is really heavy too even if it's not as brutal.Melodies have gone up a notch, making the heavy parts even heavier.We will see what this sounds like when put on record!Buy their stuffSearch on Amazon.Pain Confessor New Album Rehearsal pt.Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player.Without Remorse at our rehearsal for the new album.Video URL:Send this URL to your friends.Pain Confessor New Album Rehearsal pt.Pain Confessor New Album Rehearsal pt. |
