| Lindh Project Homepage, please go to www.Three long tracks of over 9 minutes, 6 minutes and the
title track at nearly 27 minutes. However this time Par takes no part in the vocals, leaving this department to the
incredible voice of Magdalena Hagberg. The music of Par Lindh is less technical and more 'feel' than that of
the other great keyboard wizard, Keith Emerson. Are there any second views of his performance?Maybe he wasn't used to the heat.Air France lost their instruments (temporarily).Magdalena Hagberg provides the 'coloratura' vocals...But I think I was in the majority by saying that they were very good.At ProgDay, I don't recall any particular moments when the group got out of sync or
anything, but Par did seem to have monitor troubles so there was a potential cause. But that was due to the fact that so many of the drummers were really
excellent. One of the guys on Day 1 (I think it was Soundscape's, but perhaps it was
Crucible's?But this one was different...I'm disapointed about the reviews of Par Lindh in Prog day.Emerson
and Par Lindh but both are great keybordist of their time(maybe greatest! The voice of Magdalena is wonderfull, celestial, definitively the
best female voice that I saw live. His voice on Jerusalem (ELP) give an other dimension of
this piece...They played also some pieces of Gotic Impression(Cathedral was unbelievable)
and all Mundus Incorpuntus, Rondo...This is a majestic piece of work that will not disappoint.Emerson, and
monotonous singing by female vocalist.Vitaly's, i too was disappointed on finally
hearing the Par Lindh CD's after all of the hype on the list....There will be an live double CD also. What do you
think about Gothic Impressions in comparison to Mundus?Gothic
has a much bigger musical cast, many more players appearing on one or two cuts
each.It seems really amazing
so far.Their version of Jerusalem is really cool. You've got the whole of Mundus, a slew of Gothic
Impressions tracks, a Bilbo medley, a smashing Rondo, Allegro Barbaro piano
solo, and 21st Century Schizoid Man on board...If you've ever heard any studio PLP work, just
imagine an even more grandiose and dynamic sound, and you've got this 2CD set
pegged. The sound quality is great, and the band performances are inspired. Is this the best album of 1999(?Release date is September 2000 (I
think we can hold that deadline). Will it be along the same lines as MUNDUS INCOMPERTUS or is there any new
direction or development?Well I acctually only just got back from a PLP recording session a few hours
ago where we laid down drums for a 12 minute track. There is a new direction
going on in the band since Jocke and Marcus have left the band ( at least for
the time beeing). This will however be a true PLP album but perhaps with a more
varied soundscape as far as using string players etc.But
of course this just whets my appetite even more to listen to PLP music in a
different configuration. For NEARfest and the Mexico gigs we will have the help of William and Joe
Kopecky. We are very thrilled to work with them for the tour.Nisse and I had a
listen through their new material today and it is exciting stuff!Time will tell what the permanent
lineup will be in the future.Everybody is still waiting but here
you will find a review!!!!!!!!!!Veni Vidi Vici Released: 2001 Label: Crimsonic Records Cat.As a longtime admirer of Keith Emerson and ELP one can of course understand
why.PLP used the talents of the Kopecky brothers when they
were on tour in the States. For the recording of this album, however, they did
use the combined talents of some of their friends, not in the least the new
Flower Kings bass player Jonas Reingold. There's also a real choir and small
classical orchestra, a sinfonietta, to be heard, so pretty much expect this new
album to be even more classically inclined than the band's previous efforts. But then it's all systems go as Nisse Bielfeld bangs the
drums in true Metallica style in order to introduce the title track.Dane Stevens from Druid. It's almost as if classics
meet metal!There's jazz, there's funk
and there's the almost obligatory drum solo that really smokes! The song once
again twists and turns in order to get the church organ back in, which, by means
of a small brass section, opens for another stunning grand piano piece. It's one of those tunes which would
perfectly fit on a Rick Wakeman solo album as, apart from the vocals, piano is
all you hear.Talking of different moods on this album! No doubt
this one will be a winner during forthcoming live gigs.Subject: Re: Disappointing new PLP I am VERY disappointed with PLP.Lovely
Magdalena should be seen and heard sometimes...Par's signature is
almost not heard.Par's keyboard work certainly
stands out as always, Magdalena does a great job singing, she seems more
comfortable singing in English here than on earlier PLP.Par did leave an awful lot of open space during several
instrumentals...Gunnlev's Round 2:51
6."Gothic Impressions" is the debut album by Sweden's cult band PAR LINDH PROJECT and is internationally regarded as a classic.CD reissue, which is dedicated to the 10th Anniversary of its initial release, with new mixing and mastering. Many musical parts have been reworked, with new vocals, new drums and lots of new choir added. But while the music is mostly full of dramatics, it isn't as dark as one may think it should be and isn't depressing at all.To say simply and unpretentiously, the sun was shining in the middle ages too!The contents are finely compiled: two short, two moderately long compositions and two epics.Although each of them is directly related to Classical music, the shorter pieces have almost a pure chamber sound, with the Mellotron being the only electric instrument used.Gunnlev's Round has a more pronounced medieval feel to it than Dresden Lamentation, which, though, is just a particular. What's more important is that despite of their brevity, these are complete music works and are fully integral parts of the album's general palette, which, as many well know, is striking by its grandiosity. So as to the remaining instrumental, this is the really compelling rendition of Modest Mussorgsky's Night on the Bald Mountain. The band presents the epic as a concerto for classic keyboard trio and chamber ensemble.Rock of the best trade, with elements of Opera. Each song is notable for massive maneuvers of a real Church organ, performed solo and in the context of the band's joint arrangements as well. Those presented in the beginning of The Cathedral, by beauty and dramatics remind me of Bach's Fugue in F.Par really widely uses the instrument here, and this is probably the first case that I hear a Church organ taking the lead in Rock music so often and so properly, to say the least.Rock of the '90s and not only (I've just recalled the '80s and...If you are a connoisseur of the genre and haven't heard the album, you'll take it as ambrosia. There is one Catholic cathedral and one Lutheran church in Tashkent, both being situated not too far away from my home.Lindh and friends started The Swedish Art Rock Society at the dawn of the
renaissance for Swedish progressive rock.Landberk) some
of them came to perform others just to attend the event. The
band had been rehearsing and recording during autumn 1995.Rock Festival on the 4:th of May, 1996.Bach, postromanticism, aventgarde, impressionism and from the
symphonic rock bands of the early seventies. The result was a unique new kind of music. On this CD you will find some of Swedens finest artrock musicians and poets today
which ensures a very high performing quality. On this new 10th Anniversary Edition,
Par has remixed and remastered this classic album. For over 30 years, Jimmy and Johnny Ryan have honed their guitar chops, songwriting
style, arranging skills and production expertise to a razor's edge.BLUE MARBLE is their
best sounding and most creative project to date, and there are more soaring harmony leads
and virtuosic twin guitar interplay than ever before.Flyin' Ryan Brothers stylistic diversity and sound, several different
exotic instruments and ethnic percussion were incorporated into the mix to entice the ears
and stir the soul.Johnny and Bob once again put their thunderous and
groovacious drum styles to work, laying the rhythmic foundation with taste, power and
chops to spare.Johnny also played all of the additional percussion, and his sense of
rhythm, timing and interpretive skills are nothing less than spectacular. His musicality and
virtuosity are featured prominently on every track, and his artistic contributions have
had a profound impact on the project. If that isn't enough, he also plays sitar and
tanpura!Truth Squad is a rippin' power trio that consists of the great Jimmy Ryan (of
Flyin' Ryan Brothers fame) on guitar and vocals and monster drummer John Mrozek (John and
I were the rhythm section for the Michael Angelo Band, and we both played on Legacy, the
latest release from the Flyin' Ryan Bros). In addition to playing fretted and fretless
basses on the Superkiller disc, I also played keyboards and sitar. The tunes remind me of a mix of Jeff Beck, Pink
Floyd, Rush, and Wishbone Ash, but with modern tones and production.KOPECKY has become a well known name for prog addicts in recent years. These three
brothers fom Wisconsin released their critically acclaimed self titled debut in 1999
followed by a second studio and a live album, several appearances in prog festivals, and a
contribution to the Par Lindh Project.Sunset Gun' is a huge step forward for the band. These seven instrumental pieces offer more complex and tight arrangements, less riffs and
more keyboards for atmospheres, incredible fretless bass parts, subtle guitar melodic
lines, and original drumming. The CD containes material from Veni Vidi Vici plus two unreleased
tracks!Kopecky is also the name of an American progrock trio where Bill
is one important force. His love for progressive rock in general and PLP in particular led
him to join the band.Bill also plays keyboards and sitar on these albums and is joined by
brothers Paul on drums and percussion and Joe on guitar and vocals. The latest release from the Par Lindh Project, Veni Vidi Vici, is sure to
please their existing fans and bring new ones on board.Lindh and Bjorn Johansson wrote and performed the music
together. If you do not want to deal with the intricities of the noscript

Avg: 4.No weak tracks, no real low points, and only a couple of small complaints.I'll get
those out of the way first, as they are pretty insignificant in the scope of this album.First off, the drummer is way too double bass happy. But again,
this really doesn't take away from the music, and being a short album it doesn't
really even get on my nerves that much. This is, as Sean Trane states
in his review, a perfect blend of classical and rock. There is no doubt that at this point, this is certainly Par
Lindh's masterpiece. So, no weak tracks, great compositions and playing, great
integration of classical music with hard prog, great singing and interesting lyrics,
great guitar playing, great keyboard playing, great rhythm section (aside from my one
small complaint above).Even if you don't, its worth giving
this a listen, as it is the best of them all in my opinion and it may change your
mind about this type of prog.Magdalena Hagberg is shining here also, her voice is honey. The album includes a booklet and pictorial guide that guides you thru the band's history."The Cathedral" is a 20 minute song that deserves more attention by prog rock dj's.Studio Album, 2001)

originality of their sound is most often attributed to the combination of
classically derived keyboards with rock and bass guitar and stunning
female vocals. The album "was recorded during the band's tour at the Progday festival in
Chapel Hill, North Carolina (6 September 1998).At this festival PLP won
the gallup polls for best group, best keyboardist and best drummer as well
as ranking high overall."Lindh Project began with the
Gothic Impressions studio recording.Expertly
played and dynamic, yet (for me) vocally sparse, some interest developed. While living in England a video tape of a live performance provided an
"opportunity to fully experience the powerful impact which the band can
generate onstage" and drove me to immediately obtain the rest of their
available recordings.PLP's onstage versions of their songs overshadow
the studio recordings they have released to date.Palmer, Renaissance and Yes.Lindh and Jocke Ramsell
on stage."Jerusalem," a track PLP have played live for quite some time, has
yet to be released by PLP in studio form (although we are informed that
a studio version does exist). The live version is short and powerful
with instrumentals and vocals presented in equal proportion."The Iconoclast"
(from Gothic Impressions) follows
immediately with lush keys, soaring electric guitars and pounding
percussion.Vocal work continues as a natural progression out of the
previous track. The sweet keyboard solo and short yet dynamic drum
solo within the instrumental bridge demonstrates the progressive
nature of the group's compositions. The everso sweet beginning of "Green Meadow Lands"
(also from Gothic Impressions) with
Magdalena's wonderful vocals is underscored by harmonious keys,
supporting bass and lead guitar."Allegro Barbaro," is as stunning as it is dynamic with strong classical
references evident throughout. The ambiance of a live performance has
been captured with audience appreciation notable in this track's
recording.Again with evident classical
allusions, this rocking medley is richly arranged with dynamic
keys, soaring electric guitar, melodic bass and explosive
percussion.Another innovative instrumental arrangement of
a track originally written by Dave Brubeck, entitled "Rondo,"
follows with intense percussion and brilliantly lush keyboard
excursions with guitar and bass playing in support."Mundus" contains three vocal
portions and it is the most integrated vocal and instrumental
number that the band does.It opens with Magdalena's
lovely vocal theme, which returns twice more within the
epic.Progressive music fans and newcomers to PLP's music are advised to begin
their experience with this album but should anticipate that
interest in their other recordings is likely to develop once
this new material is fully appreciated. |
