long finger stretches?The index and middle fingers each have one muscle, and the ring and little fingers share the same muscle.If you use open strings too often, it is easy to have too many resonances ringing together at the same time.Play the sixth string with your thumb, and as you are playing the fifth string with your index finger, your thumb goes back and rests on the sixth string.Also, if every time you play a note, you play it on an open string because one is available, you create a sense of monotony and predictability.Resting your fingers on the strings also provides an anchor.Conversely, when the thumb is playing, but the other fingers are not, they can stay in contact with the other strings, stabilizing the thumb.The thumb can also be in contact with the guitar, moving along its face as needed, as can the little finger.If you use the little finger or the ring finger to stabilize the hand, however, you are obviously restricted to playing with only three
