on paper!After negotiations with 5 different organizations, Prof.Mestre Renzo Gracie's first Black Belt, Professor Ricardo Almeida is a UFC veteran (for those of you who don't follow the sport), and decided to retire from the MMA scene to focus on his Academy and students, and to dedicate as much time as possible to learning the Art of Jiu Jitsu.Professor to go back to a place he never tought he would return to.Being a competitor at heart, watching the sport evolve to the point that it is today, he couldn't help but decide to get back in there and learn as much as he can from this evolution, always challenging himself so we can all benefit from his learning experiences.Professor has just signed a 6 fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and according to him, it felt like he never left the sport.But that's another subject.Ricardo "Cachorrao" Almeida's return to the UFC!Now that the news are out, we'll try and keep you guys updated as often as possible.Cachorrao is considered one of the most talented fighters today.MMA was scheduled to happen early this month at Cage Fury Fighting Championship, but the event never came through.Therefore, Cachorrao negotiated a deal with Dana White.Before signing, Almeida looked into five different offers.His first bout should be scheduled for the beginning of 2008.The space will have now more bathrooms, changing room for the ladies (finally), being that our Women Program is growing by leaps and bounds!We'll have wall to wall mats, including wall padding for the whole area.Our Pro Shop is shaping up to be huge, and the brand new comfortable lobby will have full view of the action through the glass walls, with plasma TVs showcasing Prof.Videos that's also coming up (that won't be available for sale, only for RABJJ students).Haz and Rich will be joining General Manager Victor Lopez, Instructor Brian Walter, Director of Administration Ally Almeida and Head Instructor Prof.Future RABJJ Headquarters (both spaces).There we are one the left, we'll soon be on the right!The Princeton Academy is still in the works, don't forget that!Witnessing 4 days of fierce grappling and personally reflecting upon years of training, came down to one match that would change my life forever.Here in front of me were the best in the sport from the present and years past, proving time and time again that they belonged to an elite group of fighters, yet half of them had to lose.When i got to the stadium and looked down at the mats for the finals, this overwhelming feeling came over me and I knew.Jiu Jitsu more than I'd ever loved it before.When the announcer called out my name, I was so excited that I had the opportunity to represent my team at the World's.I'd gone through in order to even be standing where I was.On August 26th 2007, I was prepared in every way possible, and I had the best group of team mates to see me through.Kim has cornered me in every fight I've had since joining RABJJ and been a great mentor to me.The reality of these extraordinary events are very ordinary things.You choose to be a champion of yourself, and through winning your own battles, you will win the external ones.The hardest battle is not on the mats, it's battling yourself.Steve Kim, my team mates, and friends in the community who have helped make me who I am by their belief in my abilities.The tournament used to be held in Brazil, every year, and the biggest names in BJJ would meet on those mats.RABJJ has its 1st World Champion!Big detail, take note: Emily won her final match against a very tough Black Belt by 17 X 0, and as all of you know, she's a Brown Belt.Tom was on a roll during his previous matches, and even in his final match, he dominated until a mistake was made in the last minute of the match, and that cost him the victory.Regardless, Tom brough home the Bronze Medal, and to place at the Mundial, is the biggest honor a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu student could experience.Huge congratulations to Emily Kwok and Tom DeBlass for their effort, courage, skills and talent!Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the World!We'll soon post pictures of Tom DeBlass, but here are some pictures of Emily.Congratulations also to training sessions over the past month and a half I would not have it any other way.Taking the hour trip from my home to meet Professor Almeida at his house at 8 a.My next match was for sure the toughest of my life, mentally and physically.Man, this was a great feeling.Not only because I knew I was bringing home a medal but because I got my butt kicked for seven minutes straight and ended up winning!There is no excuses, except for I made a mistake that my opponent capitalized on.God each day to be blessed with the people I have in my life.Without Ricardo I would have never been able to accomplish the things that I have.And it is only the beginning!Man I will remember that saying for the rest of my life and pass it on to all of my students.The only way to be successful at anything,
