| Marietta suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia.Robinson claims it was Drake, and not Keith Richards, that led him to open tunings.Over the years, Robinson has become one of the premier slide guitarists in rock.Often overshadowed by his brother and Crowes' front man Chris, Rich has been the steadying influence in the band and the source for almost all of its music.Soon, Young Rich (as his brother often referred to him in concert) was covering Duane Allman's slide solo from The Allman Brothers Band's "Dreams" demonstrating his emerging mastery of the guitar.Following several albums released throughout the 1990s the Black Crowes released Lions in 2001.Robinson handled most of the songwriting, with Hogg contributing lyric and melody ideas to some material.Included on this demo were "Cut the World," "Know Me" and "Black Cloud," among several others.Robinson continued to tour throughout the end of 2003 and well into 2004.Entitled Paper, the record featured many new songs in addition to some reworkings of material from the Hookah Brown period.Robinson handled guitar, bass, and other instruments as well as taking over the lead vocals, with the gaps being filled in by Joe Magistro (drums), Eddie Hawrysch (keyboards), Donnie Herron (fiddle, violin) and his own son Taylor Robinson (percussion).Patti Smith's release Twelve, which was released in April 2007.Black Crowes reunited
In January of 2005, Chris and Rich Robinson played an acoustic show together in Las Vegas, Nevada.The tour included seven nights at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York and when the band came for a four night run at the Tabernacle in their home town of Atlanta, GA, the bands original drummer, Steve Gorman returned to the band.While still on tour with Tom Petty they started playing clubs on their own, and treating their audiences to two set shows that were close to three hours long.The Brothers played new material during their tour for the first time since the Black Crowes had reunited as well as playing each others solo material together for the first time.Before the band returned to the road in the beginning of September, guitarist Marc Ford and keyboardist Eddie Harsch abruptly left the band.Health reasons were cited for both of them.In July Chris and Rich appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and did an acoustic version of the song Wiser Time.At their August 3rd show at the Musikfest in Bethelem, PA, the band made another member change when keyboardist Rob Clores left the band and was replace by Adam MacDougall.This article does not cite any references or sources.This page was last modified 10:24, 20 December 2007.See Copyrights for details.Last year was the year of reckoning for the Black Crowes.They may sound a wee bit like Rich's other band, but hey, what can you expect?Crowes demise, what he thinks about starting from scratch again and why he hates damn, dirty rock critics.Rich Robinson: It's the only band I've ever been in without one so it's different and it's good.Has starting a new band and constructing new songs brought you back to the early days and fresh feeling of starting it out with the Black Crowes?Chris and I were writing that record.It'll always be really special.I've seen how that works and I sort of have a bird's eye view.The great thing about the Crowes is that when we started we came in under the radar.No one gave two shits, it was just like they signed us as a favour.And so we were always able to make the records we wanted to make.Playing together as a band that grew.And it's not to be a contrary asshole.Is that part of the reason why the Crowes split last year?How would you describe or even compare the pairing you have now with Hookah's frontman John Hogg?For me, that would be like the same thing.You're not going to let me write this so I'm not going to let you write that."What do you think of people who say your new band is just a Black Crowes Pt.It's similar because it's my sound.It's funny because they said we were just a hippie band and they also said we sounded exactly like the Stones, then when we played with Jimmy we sounded exactly like Zeppelin.If you want to browse around, go to the Tune
