a number of hits to the repertoire of these groups. The Move, and Wood became their musical leader."Flowers in the Rain" was the first track to be played on Radio 1 when it was launched in 1967.Since The Move's members could not agree on musical direction, the potential of the group was diluted.Wood therefore began to develop into other directions.Wood was keen on musical experimentation and was in this respect one of the most progressive musicians of his time, taking the 'pop group' into new areas. When The Move was still on tour, he founded, together with his band colleagues Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan, the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), which was later to gain major commercial success by successfully fusing the basis of a rock band with a permanent string section, without losing rock 'n' roll roots.Mustard (1975), including contributions by Phil Everly and Annie Haslam, was less successful.Wood himself is mentioned as singer as well as player of guitars, bass guitar, sitar, cello, double bass, saxophones, clarinet, trombone, tuba, recorders, oboe, French horn, banjo, mandolin, bassoon, drums, percussion, vibraphone, bagpipes and keyboards. He was a big Elvis fan, but never succeeded in getting 'The King' to adopt one of his compositions.Rick Wakeman's Time Machine album, he went on the road with 'Roy Wood's Army'.He also recorded a two tracks with Jeff Lynne around this time ("If You Can't Get What You Want" and "Me and You"), which likewise have never seen the light of day.In 1995 he released a new live version as the 'Roy Wood Big Band', which charted at No.Wounded Bird Records CD release.Carl Wayne All the above titles recorded by Carl Wayne were as a solo artist, after he left The Move in 1969.Beach Boys pop would have gotten onto the charts, particularly in 1976.That doesn't mean that it should have sat on the shelves for nearly 25 years, either, since Roy Wood's cult is of the kind that will purchase anything he cut.Still, this can be pretty tough sledding even for that cult, since it isn't so much eccentric as it is messy. There are a few nice moments here and there, particularly on the terrific "Indiana Rainbow," but that's better heard on Exotic Mixture. This is for Roy fanatics and historians; interesting to hear once, but unlikely to find its way back to the stereo too often.Note: Wireless carriers may charge fees for receiving and video reviews.Roy Wood first achieved success as a member of the Move, a typical British pop group of the late sixties who had success with such songs as Flowers in the rain, Blackberry way, Fire brigade, Night of fear, I can hear the grass grow (all huge UK chart hits) and other excellent songs. The first ten tracks on this compilation are by the Move. This group evolved into the Electric Light Orchestra, but Roy only recorded one album with ELO, after which he quit and formed his own group, Wizzard, which had significant UK chart success in 1973 and 1974 with their brand of glam rock music.Wizzard started their run of hits with Ballpark incident, a top ten hit.The song Wizzard (and Roy Wood) will forever be remembered actually peaked at number four.It is, of course, the classic song I wish I could be Christmas everyday, perhaps the finest Christmas rock song of them all.Because of that, there cannot be anybody in Britain of school age or above who has not heard the song. This compilation serves as an excellent overview of Roy's career. The Move and Wizzard were both excellent groups but this compilation contains all the essentials of both groups.Your vote will be counted
