How much art?Sebadoh is an indie rock band formed in Westfield, Massachusetts by Eric Gaffney and former Dinosaur Jr bass player Lou Barlow.Band history
Lou Barlow was the bass player for alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr in the late 1980s.Barlow and Gaffney released the Weed Forestin' cassette in 1987 on Homestead Records under the name Sebadoh, which was a nonsense word Barlow often muttered in his recordings.Over time Sebadoh's releases became a way for Barlow to address the issues of control that manifested as the tension in and his ejection from Dinosaur Jr; Barlow said "I got a lot of hatred out just by writing those songs."Jason Loewenstein joined in summer 1989, the first release that he played on being the "Gimme Indie Rock" single in 1991.Sebadoh III was released. After touring with fIREHOSE in 1991, they signed to Sub Pop (Domino in the UK and City Slang in Germany) in 1992, and released the two EPs Rocking the Forest and Sebadoh vs.Fay was fired before the sessions for The Sebadoh (1999) and replaced by Russ Pollard, a friend of Loewenstein's from Louisville.Following the tour to promote this album, the band went on hiatus, with Barlow concentrating on his other project, the Folk Implosion, and Loewenstein working on material for his debut solo album At Sixes and Sevens, released in 2002.The two reunited to play concerts in late 2003 and the spring of 2004.In March of 2007, the "Sebadoh Classic" lineup of Barlow, Gaffney and Loewenstein went on tour together for the first time in 14 years.Wade Through the Boggs

m.Sebadoh were far less
consistent than bands like Pavement or Yo La Tengo, but at their
best they were almost as great.More Sebadoh on Rhapsody. This product and other products of OpinionLab, Inc.US 6606581, 6421724, 6785717 B1 and other patents pending.Enclose phrases in double quotes ("").Active forum topics

a9AdsViewNamespace.See all 319 customer reviews...The easiest way to shoot video reviews. This is my second Sebadoh album. It doesn't sound or feel intimate anymore...Almost all of that is gone on this record. It's a good song, regardless; not great, but good.Eric Gaffney, who, in my opinion, was as good as Barlow in the songwriting department, is notably absent here.Whereas Barlow wrote quiet (albiet beatiful) confessions, Gaffney wrote some really messed up tunes.Like I said before, though, it does grow on you. There are no standouts, but there are no bad songs either.Sebadoh debuted with this record instead, my perception of it would of been entirely different. But I just can't help but make dumb comparisons. Was this review helpful to you?"Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided to other Amazon.Your vote will be counted and will appear on the product page within 24 hours."Jon Spencer wailing 'Dang' showed me their was another world in music I had yet to discover. On TV Jay Mascis in a golf cart singing 'Feel the Pain' and the Weezer guys being dorks in front of a blue square are just performing in Arnold's quickly became the images of my youth.Perfect songs like "Skull" (a drug song), "Together or Alone" or "Mystery Man" are still great today. But "Bakesale" also has the best of Jason's work with "Careful" and the brilliant "Not a Friend".Sebadoh album they ever made.Barlow's songs may have gotten more sophisticated afterwards, but the overall equality of "Bakesale" they never reached again.Sebadoh's Bakesale is definitely one of the best albums of all time.Just when you've had enough of Lou Barlow's sensitive whining, Jason Lowenstein takes over and pelts out one of his raucus tunes. This is the most cohesive they ever sounded. If you buy just one Sebadoh album get this one.Was this review helpful to you?See all 23 customer reviews...Please listen to this dark masterpiece, guitars flow so beautifully into Barlow's words, the sometimes Sub Pop grungy of III disappeared completely, instead we have an Sonic...This is invariably the best Sebadoh album. This actually is one of the best albums Sebadoh would release.Bubble and Scrape or Smash your head on the Punk...One of Sebadoh's best. This is a must have album. This is probably the only Sebadoh that I will listen to on a regular basis and i haven't heard much of their other material.I'm not a good friend
This is probably Lou Barlow's finest hour. This album is most definitely one of the best Sebadoh albums if not indy albums of all time...Its right along with III and Bubble and Scrape.Lou Barlow's subtle pop classic
Once again, I am amazed by reviewers who trash a band that moves away from its perspective musical style and tries something new.See all 23 customer reviews...Most underrated guitar player in rock history...What Do Customers Ultimately Buy After Viewing Items Like This? For more about music, check out our blog, Amazon Earworm, and our monthly newsletters, Amazon Delivers.Using your checking account at Amazon.Would you like to update product info or give feedback on images?Your comments can help make our site better for everyone.Track your recent orders.View or change your orders in Your Account.Visit our Help department. |
