jazz fusion piece in a genre gone cold, his tunes are bright, complex and fresh. The recorded performance was released the following year on Night of the Living Dregs. All eight tracks were written by Morse, and the album peaked at number 27 on Billboard's Jazz Album Chart.Additionally, Morse was voted "Best Overall Guitarist" in the same poll, an honor that he would enjoy for five consecutive years (which ended his eligibility by retiring him into their "Gallery of Greats", a distinction shared only by Steve Howe of Yes.They signed a deal with former label Capricorn Records for their first an introduction, though, it's probably not the best one to pay full price for.First off: there's a lot to recommend this album. It's heavy enough to wail out of your speakers and happy enough to bring a bright ray of sunshine into any day.For one thing, it stands at a quick 34 minutes. The guitar world will be just that much better for it.If you know Morse's music already and want to hear more, you wouldn't want to be without any of them. There's even a modern atonal piece in the intro to Huron River Blues. Many guitarists would agree with me.Buy this, as well as High Tension Wires and the Dixie Dregs' Dregs of the Earth (heck, buy all of his stuff) before it's out of print forever.Hey Steve: remaster this!I'd give this five stars but the sound quality is really poor.Steve's newer recordings, it sounds flat and lifeless in comparison. Was this review helpful to you?Steve Morse demonstrates why he is such a highly regarded player.Guitar players all bow to Steve I've had this on vinyl since it first came out and it is one of my most favorite of all my collection(100's).Just a GREAT record Before releasing this album, Steve Morse was the leader of The Dixie Dregs. The music in this release is quite similar to the Dregs in terms of diversity of musical styles, but...If you have to buy only one Steve Morse Band Album, this is the one.Probably the best of all Steve Morse compositions to wind up on a solo CD, Cruise Missle, is the opening...After leaving the Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse, along with Jerry Peek and Rod Morgenstain, recorded this instrumental album.Musical artists part 8: A LaRue and drummer Van Romaine, SMB continues to amplify the interactive musical capabilities of the rock power trio. With "SPLIT DECISION", his ninth album as the Steve Morse Band (his second project for Magna Carta) this guitarist's guitarist has once again proven that true musical veterans don't rest on their laurels.Steve Morse continues to explore and discover, reach and attain. Why not be the week and put it in the rotation for a while.Occasionally something comes along that makes me want to keep playing it over and over like a lab rat hitting the pleasure button. It doesn't matter if you worship great guitar playing or if you couldn't tell a fretboard from a washboard. Was this review helpful to you?The aptly named "Gentle flower, Hidden Beast", for instance, starts out with a Santana feel to it and then rocks into a classic Morse anthem.Mountain parts in the title track. This record shows that he really wants to keep changing and improving...That boils down to my preferences; I guess I just don't "get it" so much."Four Minutes to Live" from Stressfest still brings tears to my eyes)...Your mileage may vary, though, you know? All in all, a great album with lots of cool stuff to explore. The trio of Morse on guitar, Van Romaine on drums and Dave LaRue on bass puts out a phenominal sound. They are one of the tightest bands you'll ever hear.Though there is just one single truly acoustic song on the CD, there is a balance struck between ripping rock 'n roll and more introspective but...As a long time Steve Morse fan, I would say that this album ranks high among all of Steve's solo and Steve Morse Band albums.See all 14 customer reviews...Music You Should Hear: Artists' PicksWant to know what Norah Jones, Sting, and Il Divo are listening to?For more about music, check out sound was awesome. It was like being transported back to 1991.Van Romaine and Rod Morgenstein playing together and duelling later in the concert.Ah, know what you mean now.The code changes based on your selection.Featuring a more guitar heavy approach than The DREGS(a fact necessitated by being a three piece).Steve still leads the band off on tangents occasionally with country and classical pieces, but overall they are less stylistically diverse than The DREGS.Sorry, no free mp3 streaming available for STEVE MORSE BAND How to submit new MP3s ?Plus, the album page (but not the band page) for Gentle Giant's "Octopus."Morse isn't a Symphonic artist. But in this case Steve not impressed me..."Busybodies" is another good piece in the vein of "heightened Awareness" and "Led On" is a strange Remix by Mark Gage in Vapourspace..."Wooden Music" is more New Age but another emotional song.Steve Morse is Steve Morse. They left out my favorites from those particular albums anyway.Cannonball, the Dregs staple, The Bash.Alan Sloane, broke a leg or something.Hey, at least they never burned down any places.Excuse me for not completing a track by track for this one.Studio Album, 1996) Avg: 2.Steve
