The Dells grew up in Harvey, Illinois and began singing together while attending Thornton Township High School.Rays, the members of the group were Marvin Junior, Michael McGill, Lucius McGill, Verne Allison, Chuck Barksdale and Johnny Funches.McGill eventually successfully recovered from his injury with Barksdale returning to Illinois to rejoin the Dells in 1960 but not before Johnny Funches, frustrated with the group's slow progress, left permanently.The song was also their first top 20 Pop smash.The Dells were confined mostly to the oldies market afterwards until they were asked to be creative consultants to Robert Townsend's acclaimed 1991 musical, The Five Heartbeats, which was loosely based on the lives of the Dells.The group recorded a George Duke composition titled "A Heart is a House for Love".The success resulted in the group being signed to the Philadelphia International label where they recorded the album I Salute You.In recent years, the Dells have kept a constant touring schedule still occasionally releasing albums including their latest, 2003's HOTT.As of 2007, the Dells have continued to perform together.B)
1974: The Dells vs.Wisconsin, with a population of 2,418 as of the 2000 census.Wisconsin Dells is located partially within four counties: Adams County, Columbia County, Juneau County, Sauk County.Together with nearby Lake Delton, the city forms an area known as "the Dells," a very popular Midwestern tourist destination, and becoming one of the United States top family destinations.Yearly, the Dells area boasts an estimated 5 million annual visitors.With 18 indoor waterparks and 3 outdoor waterparks in the Dells area, Wisconsin Dells proclaims itself as the "Waterpark Capital of the World,".It is home to the largest outdoor waterpark in the U.It has over 70 acres of waterslides.The Dells is also home to the nation's largest Indoor Waterpark resorts, the Kalahari Resort and the Wilderness.Kalahari's indoor waterpark features 125,000 square feet of waterpark space.Some other attractions in "the Dells" include the Dells Boat Tours, Mt.Before the establishment of Kilbourn City, the region around the dells of the Wisconsin River was primarily a lumbering area until 1851, when the La Crosse and Milwaukee Railroad was chartered with Kilbourn as its president.The population of this new city quickly swelled to over 2,000, but when the railroad finally came through the area in 1857 it took nearly everyone by surprise by crossing the river a mile upstream from the site of Newport.Because of the scenery provided by the dells of the Wisconsin River, Kilbourn City quickly became a popular travel destination in the Midwest.In 1875, early landscape photographer H.Bennett established a studio in the city and took several photos of the sandstone formations in the dells, including many stereoscopic views.Prints of these photographs were distributed across the United States, further enhancing the status of Kilbourn City as a destination for sightseers.Taking advantage of this, Bennett began offering to take souvenir pictures of visitors to the dells, becoming one of the first to capitalize on the area's burgeoning tourist trade.The dells region remained primarily a place for sightseers to escape the bustle of the city for many decades.In 1908, the Kilbourn Dam was installed despite protests from people such as H.Bennett, separating the Dells into the Upper and Lower Dells.Since the time of LeRoy Gates, the Dells Boat Tours have gone through many owners.Olson), and The Dells Boat Company.In 1946 a Milwaukee native named Mel Flath brought the first DUKW to the Wisconsin Dells.It was an impulse buy which he made at a government auction in California; The trips purpose was to purchase war surplus trucks.Mel opened the "Dells Amphibian Line" which gave 90 minute tours in the Wisconsin River, exposing tourists to the area's famous sandstone formations.When he was bought out again, the Soma Boat Company opened up their own duck ride on Mirror Lake, near Lake Delton, WI, which they called the Aquaducks.George and Suzanne Field, named Dells Duck Tours, Inc.Today, the Dells Duck Tours, Inc.Lake Delton, Wisconsin Dells' sister city to the south, gradually became popular as the Dells attractions spread out.To promote the show, Bartlett gave away bumper stickers advertising his thrill show and the city, effectively spreading word about the area across the nation.Beginning in the late 1970s and continuing to the present, the Dells area (Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton) has become a waterpark mecca.C), the highest temperature ever recorded in Wisconsin.The racial makeup of the city was 97.In the city the population was spread out with 22.Johnny Carter replaced Funches in 1960.Jay in the Fifties and early Sixties.They toured with Washington from 1961 to1962.In 1974 they teamed with the Dramatics to cut The Dells Vs.TIMELINE

Robert Pruter.Goldmine (August 3, 1984).The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Inc.Love Is Blue, Love Is So Simple, Always Together, Open Up My Heart, Glory Of Love, Standing Ovation, Heart Is a Home For Love...Usually whenever we write something on the internet, you just simply have to take it on faith that "someone else" is out there reading it, even when there is no written feedback.So as a result I learned long ago to simply accept the fact that "someone else" is gonna read what I write, that is something that I have to believe in.Well I know that I have at least one "fan" out there.Chuck Barksdale, best known as the bass singer of the Dells, and this past Monday I got to spend the better part of 5 hours with Chuck in a hotel room just outside of Philadelphia.He is "NBA power forward sized" and combined with his deep bass voice is an imposing and intimidating conversationalist, much as I would imagine that Lyndon Johnson was as a United States Senator.And that is why he is the "spokesperson" for the Dells.Patrol got the Dells into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.No doubt we played a role in that.However I always tell people that it was Chuck Barksdale who got the Dells into the ROCK N' ROLL HALL OF FAME.Of course I have really known Chuck Barksdale for almost 40 years and have been a fan of his for at least that long.That does because it was Chuck Barksdale who introduced not only me, but my entire generations to the music of the Dells back in 1969 when he said the words "Do You Remember A Night...."It is the bass voice of Chuck Barksdale that you hear at the beginning of the Dells AWESOME remake of their 1955 hit called "Oh What a Night".And I listened to it what seems like 1,000 more times at the rehearsal for the Dells induction into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame."Bob, I just wanted to let you know, that although I may not post a written reply to you, I read EVERYTHING that you write.So it turns out that Chuck Barksdale is a "fan" of mine and he reads what I write.So in other words, I am going to be recording the spoken word intro's of the man who is the master of the spoken word intro.Chuck didn't really have to do that.The time flew and I felt like I had just completed a college course called "How To Be Real Black Man" (When the rest of the world wants you to be a n*gger).Lola Falana, Miles Davis, Kenny Gamble, Harvey Fuqua, Louis Farrakhan, O'Jays, Blue Magic, Prince, Herman Lubinsky, Frank Sinatra and more all interwoven in a story that mostly can't be repeated at this time.But it's an American history lesson that he felt that I should know.And he was right because it should be written down, so that it can be passed along.But more importantly, Chuck Barksdale is a friend of mine and he wants the rest of yall to know that he is a friend of yours as well, even though, you will most likely never see it in writing from him....Soul Patrol and The Mighty Mighty Dells

If you go into the SoulPowerSearch database and run a query on the Dells, you will find that there are 3,100 entries in there about them.In fact I didn't even have a web page about the Dells at that time.Is that because I don't like the Dells?However I must confess that as the years went by I didn't think much about the Dells.They really weren't in the public eye much during the 1980's and the 1990's with the exception of the time period when the "Five Heartbeats" movie was out.Rock N'
Roll Hall of Fame was announced and someone posted the list for that year.As
always when such lists are posted on the Soul Patrol Mailing list, there was the
usual controversy about who was excluded.Then someone asked if the Dells were in the Rock N' Roll
Hall of Fame.Mike came up with a technological solution to the problem.This page contains a letter which presents a very sound and logical argument for the inclusion of the MIGHTY, MIGHTY DELLS into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.When you click on the button the letter is automatically sent to the offices of the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame as your endorsement to INDUCT THE DELLS!!!The page itself has generated many thousands of letters to the Rock N' Roll hall of Fame, however in the end we haven't yet achieved our goal of actually seeing the Dells enshrined into their rightful place into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.All of you who participated in that effort are to be commended for your commitment and love of our music.Our inability to get the Dells in has been a source of frustration to me.Getting into the Rock N' Roll

mistaken notion that the reason the Dells aren't in the Rock N' Roll Hall of
Fame because of racism.Over 60 percent of the inductees are
Black.NOTHING
away from the other Black artists that have been inducted.All the Dells have is Soul
Patrol.It could be argued that the Dells might just be the GREATEST artists in the history of Soul music.They don't appear on stage naked
In short, they didn't do any of the kind of things that normally get Black entertainers into the news, and thus aren't a part of the general consciousness of the public!They are always gentleman in public and regular brotha's in private.They have turned many people on to Soul Patrol and they have also opened many doors for us

is documented in the hit movie "The Five Heartbeats"!The Dells
were the inspiration for the movie "The Five Heartbeats", and they have
had over 40 hits, with 24 crossing over to the pop charts!Through it all, The Dells have made only one personnel change in their
entire professional career.Although not always on a smooth road, The
Dells managed a longevity realized by very few recording groups and they
