| The Goo Goo Dolls is an alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Buffalo, New York by John Rzeznik and Robby Takac.The Goo Goo Dolls initially consisted of John Rzeznik (vocals, guitar), Robby Takac (vocals, bass guitar) and George Tutuska (drums).The trio picked the current name out of a True Detective newspaper ad for a toy called a Goo Goo Doll.With Takac as their lead singer, the band released their first album, Goo Goo Dolls in 1986 on Mercenary Records, but was picked up in 1987 by Celluloid Records, a larger record company.Despite being earlier dismissed as having too similar a sound to The Replacements, as well as being embraced by local college radio and punk scenes, (playing such venues as CBGB) the Goo Goo Dolls' third release had incorporated elements of heavy metal, pop rock, and punk.The critical success and encouraging sales of the last album resulted in a larger budget from Metal Blade Records.The single "We Are the Normal", which Rzeznik wrote with Replacements' frontman Paul Westerberg, received a major push toward college and independent radio, while its video was displayed on MTV's 120 Minutes program.Takac asked Tutuska to leave and Rzeznik to come back.Boy Named Goo sold modestly in this time, however it was not until the release of the single "Name" that the band experienced any commercial success.Records, under which the band released their sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl, in 1998.According to interviews with Rzeznik, he was experiencing serious bouts of writers' block when he was approached to write a song for the City of Angels soundtrack, and, according to Rzeznik, he was on the verge of quitting the band days before he wrote the song that would launch the band to worldwide fame.The DVD also contained a studio version of the Goo Goo Dolls' cover of "Give a Little Bit" by Supertramp.The Goo Goo Dolls perform their song 'Before It's Too Late' from the OST of the 2007 film Transformers at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA on July 22nd, 2007.In 2006, the Goo Goo Dolls marked their 20th anniversary with their new album Let Love In, which included the studio recording of "Give a Little Bit" as well as other top 10 radio singles "Better Days," "Stay With You," and "Let Love In".With their third consecutive single ("Let Love In") from the album, the Goo Goo Dolls hit a record 12 Top 10 hits in Adult Top 40 history, beating Matchbox Twenty and Sheryl Crow.The Goo Goo Dolls plan to release another single from Let Love In, "Without You Here", as well as a song from this July's Transformers movie called "Before It's Too Late", originally titled "Fiction".To promote the new single, the Goo Goo Dolls performed "Before It's Too Late" at both The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on June 8, 2007, and again at The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on June 22, 2007.The performance premiered on HDNet in high definition (and 5.Sunday September 30th at 9pm.On November 13th, 2007, the band released a greatest hits album entitled Greatest Hits Volume One: The Singles and have plans to release a "career retrospective collection" in the near future.Currently, he is a club owner and concert promoter for Funtime Presents.Lance Diamond is a Buffalo, New York entertainer who has played live with the Goo Goo Dolls on many occasions, as well as recorded with them on the tracks "Down On the Corner" (off "Jed"), "Never Take The Place Of Your Man" (off "Hold Me Up"), "My Girl", "Do You Believe", and "Bitch".Celluloid Records

the wrath of overly strict nuns at school and his eccentric father at home.Charles Bukowski, but he wasn't impressed.The young Rzeznik tried to find balance between his hotheaded father's ravings and the strict teachings of the Catholic Church."It was a really chaotic upbringing," he admits.Those dreams turned to a nightmare when Rzeznik lost both of his parents within a year of each other when he was just was just 16.It was while he was attending college that Rzeznik met Takac.Recalls Takac, "When John and I met each other, I really didn't know how to write a song and he really didn't know how to keep a band together.The bassist and original voice of the Goo Goo Dolls worked days at a local recording studio, giving the aspiring band a place to hone its craft and record demos at night.Soon the band landed a slot opening for Boston punks Gang Green and a tour that traveled all the way to the West Coast.It was on Metal Blade, which subsequently became affiliated with Warner Bros.Paul Westerberg was doing.Although the Goo Goo Dolls have gone on to reach the commercial heights that eluded most of their heroes, Rzeznik has not forgotten.The Goo Goo Dolls also have put in plenty of work and not only survived but also thrived over two decades, a milestone that hasn't gone unnoticed by the band."That's awfully difficult for a lot of bands.""John and I wrote together on this record," Takac says.While the Goo Goo Dolls have certainly enjoyed their success, one thing is certain the band hasn't forgotten where they came from and is happy to give back to its loyal fans.Sometimes God just cuts you a break' and that's what it was.""When you drive down the street and you see the park and the bleachers where you first a kissed a girl, you drive past the house you grew up in and you remember them taking your mother out in an ambulance, you see the post office where your father worked, you drive through a neighborhood that used to be all factories and now it's just leveled, or you drive by a street and see a beautiful little shop that just opened and how people are really thriving there," he says."That whole experience kind of opened up my heart," Rzeznik says of the Buffalo sessions.Rzeznik isn't only sharing his own feelings, he's tapped into consciousness to such an extent that some of the Goo Goo Dolls' songs have become anthems.Sometimes I fear a9AdsViewNamespace.Why not be the first to suggest a search for which it should appear?Goo Goo Dolls deliver the delicious with first studio album in 4 years....Things change a lot in 4 years.Averaging three years between albums hasn't hurt The Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Rzeznik, Robbie Takac, and Mike Malinin, however.The album kicks off with two songs sure to be big singles.Let Love In is musically lush; Strong acoustic guitar and great fuzzy bass tones join ethereal strings that highlight lyrics sure to make the heart ache, "the only way we'll feel again, the only way to see again, is to let love in."Feel The Silence has an addictive beat and comforting chorus.Give a Little Bit follows, makes its encore return from last year's single release.Can't Let it Go is probably the closest thing to a Black Balloon on this record, "You were no angel, and I was no saint, but somehow I can't let it go."Strange Love is Robbie second vocal track.This is the first real departure from the Dolls normal style, offering an 80's feel with piano notes floating over a repeating chorus.This would make a great track for a movie.The record as a whole is fairly laid back, without any fast tempo rock tracks that earlier albums had.Glen Ballard's production on this album gives us tighter and better melodies and smoother choruses, but the songs as a whole are more atmospheric than rocked out.Those that don't like the softer side of Goo may be unhappy with this album, as Let Love In doesn't take dramatic risks in songwriting or stray far from the Dolls recent formula of success.It is an ear friendly album sure to be on constant rotation this year and will be a crowd pleaser.It's been a while since we've heard from this alt rock band from Buffalo, but this album makes the waiting well worth it.Was this review helpful to you?Well excuse me, but what if I like the sound, the lyrics, the production and the feel of the CD?What if I like AOR, Adult Contemporary Radio and this is what I like listening to?The only important review is what you consider to be good according to your own taste.Was this review helpful to you?See all 140 customer reviews...I've always been a big fan of the Goo Goo Dolls, they have a unique sound and a melancholia about them that makes me love them.The Goo Goo Dolls have always been one of my favorite bands.Published 6 months ago by S.Contrasts from their usual style
