4.The Lemonheads were formed by Evan Dando and Ben Deily, in high school, at the Commonwealth School in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, circa 1986.At this stage they played punk rock, and were briefly known as The Whelps, until a name change later that year led to the birth of the Lemonheads, named for a candy which Dando noted was sweet on the inside, and sour on the outside, possibly a metaphor for the band's sound.Dando enrolled at Skidmore College, but couldn't maintain his grades and dropped out to pursue a career as a musician.Records, the Lemonheads released the albums Hate Your Friends, Creator, and Lick with Deily and Dando sharing lead vocals and songwriting duties until about 1989, when Deily left the band.These songs formed the basis for It's a Shame About Ray, the Lemonheads' breakthrough album.This cover was also used in the film Wayne's World 2.The band enjoyed quite a bit of success on college radio, and modest mainstream exposure.Dando's face was on virtually every magazine cover, posters of him peering out between golden blonde locks hung from teenage girls' walls.The band officially renamed themselves from "Lemonheads" to "The Lemonheads" prior to the release of the Come on Feel the Lemonheads LP.Come on Feel the Lemonheads in late 1993.The Lemonheads then toured throughout 1994; Dando famously befriended Oasis and appeared at the band's live shows.While featuring jangly guitar songs such as "If I Could Talk I'd Tell You," this set also showed off the darker side of Dando's writing: "Break Me" and "Losing Your Mind" suggested that all was not well with Dando's mind.The band helped in a 1996 tribute album for Schoolhouse Rock creator Thomas G.Yohe, which contains remakes of many popular "Schoolhouse Rock" songs like "Conjunction Junction," "I'm Just a Bill," and "Interplanet Janet."The Lemonheads' contribution was "My Hero Zero."Atlantic's release of The Best Of The Lemonheads in 1998 only served to increase the mystery.Live photos from this show can be seen here.In April 2006, The Lemonheads were signed to Vagrant Records.The album, simply titled "The Lemonheads", was released on September 26, 2006 in the United States and one day earlier in the UK; the album features special guests Garth Hudson and J Mascis on select tracks.European tour during January and February of 2007.The Lemonheads are currently writing and demoing songs for their ninth studio album to be released in April 2008.They also plan a deluxe reissue of their 1992 album It's a Shame About Ray, which is due for release in March 2008 on Rhino Records.Lemonheads full length, reissue due next year, Punknews.Tributes

a9AdsViewNamespace.See all 388 customer reviews...The Lemonheads is an admirable effort.Granted, it's not really a reunion, since Evan Dando is the only one who played with The Lemonheads before.Given that Dando's output since the dimise of the band a decade ago hasn't exactly been prolific, one is right to worry about whether he could come up with a new set of songs worthy of the Lemonheads moniker.Tom Morgan also contributes on two tracks.It is this prodigious pool of talent, with its direct and indirect links to The Lemonheads' glory days, that lends this album a sense of legitimacy and purpose that such "comeback" albums are prone to sorely lack.However, drummer Bill Stevenson fits nicely into the grooves of Dando's style with his two contributions, "Become the Enemy" and "Steve's Boy", which features J Mascis on guitar.Instead, he rhetorically asks, as the classic film title did, "they shoot horses, don't they?"But fans of The Lemonheads tune in after all these years to be entertained, not to be preached to.And entertain is certainly what The Lemonheads does.Thus, it gets the same rating as Come On Feel the Lemonheads.Everything I liked about music in the 90's flew out the window when The Lemonheads "broke up" in 1998.I'm kidding, I mean, how can you break up a band that really consists of Evan Dando and whichever musician happens to be available in the studio at the moment?I'd happily discard "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" for this any day..."Baby's Home", or slyly smirks "If it's not fixed, don't break it" in the opening song, "Black Gown".Was this review helpful to you?Remarkably Evan Dando,has brought back the Lemonheads after 10 years.See all 23 customer reviews...Hopefully many more to come....Return to Form
