The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are Scotland's senior Regiment and her only Regiment of cavalry.The Regiment was formed in 1971, as a result of the amalgamation of two very distinguished Regiments; The Royal Scots Greys and the 3rd Carabiniers.Hunter River Lancers (Australia), 1st and 2nd Squadrons New Zealand Scottish, The Natal Carabineers (South Africa), as well as HMS Glasgow and HMS Vengeance.The Regiment's Slow March is "The Garb of Old Gaul" and Quick March is "3DGs", with Pipe Marches being "My Home" and "Highland Laddie" respectively.The SCOTS DG have recently returned from a 6 month tour of Iraq (Op TELIC 7).The Regiment was based in Al Amarah, but were spread throughout southern Iraq, including Umm Qasr and Shaibah Logisitcs Base.They will also be completing their conversion to the new networked communications system, BOWMAN.Once this training is complete they will be ready to undertake a further operational tour in 2008.In 1996 it returned to the United Kingdom, being based at Tidworth.Other information
