In January 1968, Brian Connolly and Mick Tucker left Wainwright's Gentlemen to form another band, calling themselves The Sweetshop.Frank Torpey, a friend of Tucker's, was recruited to play guitar.It didn't take long for Sweetshop to develop a following on the pub circuit, and they were signed to the Fontana label.At the time, another UK band released a single under the same name Sweetshop, so the band shortened the name to Sweet.In 1969 guitarist Mick Stewart joined, and Sweet signed a new record contract with EMI's Parlophone Label.Three more bubblegum pop singles were released, "Lollipop Man" (September 1969), "All You'll Ever Get From Me" (January 1970), and Archies cover, "Get On The Line" (June, 1970), which all failed to chart.As a member of the Elastic Band, he had played guitar on two singles for Decca "Think Of You Baby" and "Do Unto Others".He also appeared on the band's lone album release, Expansions On Life.Phil Wainman was the executive producer.Sweet adopted the rich vocal harmony style of The Hollies, with distorted guitars and a heavy rhythm section.Another influence on Sweet's music was 1960s drummer Sandy Nelson, who partially influenced Mick Tucker's drumming style.In particular, Sweet tracks such as "Ballroom Blitz" and "Man With The Golden Arm" contain elements of Sandy Nelson's 1961 U.Top 10 hit, "Let There Be Drums".First album
Sweet's first album appearance was on a 'Music For Pleasure' record release: the Sweet had one side, The Pipkins (after whose sole hit, "Gimme Dat Ding", the LP was titled) had the other.The LP features the A and B sides of the three commercially unsuccessful Parlophone singles before Sweet finally found success with "Funny Funny", which was the band's first single release for RCA.The official release date was December, 1970.International success
In March 1971, "Funny Funny" became their first international hit, climbing to the Top 20 on many of the world's charts.Sweet's first official LP titled Funny How Sweet Coco Can Be was released towards the end of 1971, but failed to chart.As the LP faded into obscurity, Sweet found themselves being labelled by music critics as nothing more than a Top 40 singles band.Furthermore, Chinn and Chapman hindered the band's chance of respectability by bringing in session musicians, a la The Monkees, to play on the records, even though the members of Sweet were competent musically.Chapman was becoming increasingly tense.Sweet single on which the real members of Sweet played.The resulting album, Sweet Fanny Adams, was their first UK Top 40 chart album.Desolation Boulevard
A second album was released during 1974, called Desolation Boulevard.Unfortunately, in June of 1974, Brian Connolly was attacked before the group went on as support, and he took time out from singing as his throat was badly bruised."The Six Teens" (July, 1974) was a Top 10 hit in UK, Germany and the Netherlands.The Sweet Singles Album
In 1975, RCA released a compilation album titled The Sweet Singles Album (only issued in Australia and New Zealand).The album coincided with their Australian tour and was a huge seller.This song also appeared on the Desolation Boulevard album but with a softer mix."Fox On The Run", which originally appeared on the 1974 Desolation Boulevard LP.This single was not very successful around the world, except parts of Europe and Australia.As a result of its success, Australia was the only country to get the follow up single "4th Of July".This single was only popular in Germany."Give Us A Wink", Sweet's first fully produced and written LP was released in March 1976.During 1976, Sweet attempted to gain popularity in America by promoting new material from their Give Us A Wink album, with a heavy schedule of more than fifty concert dates.During one appearance, Sweet played "All Right Now" with Ritchie Blackmore in a tribute to mark the death of Free guitarist Paul Kossoff.The first single from the album, "Fever of Love", represented the band heading in a somewhat more Europop hard rock direction.The 1976 and 1977 years featured Sweet as a more album oriented, glam metal act.Top 20 chart entry "Action" was the group's hardest rocking hit single."Stairway To The Stars" was Sweet's final single release for RCA."Love Is Like Oxygen" is often wrongly credited to ELO.With the addition of session and touring musicians keyboardist Gary Moberley and guitarist Nico Ramsden, Sweet undertook a successful British tour in February 1978.However, "Love Is Like Oxygen" (January 1978) was their last UK, U.Andy Scott also received an Ivor Novello Award for composing "Love Is Like Oxygen".Two album tracks titled "That Girl" and "Stay With Me" featuring Connolly on lead vocals remain from the late 1978 Cut Above The Rest recording sessions.After Connolly's departure, Sweet continued as a trio, with Scott and Priest now both handling lead vocals.Connolly's other single was titled "Hypnotised" released in 1982.His only real solo musical achievement, however, was the lovely "Lady Starlight."Sweet with various new vocalists and bass players, the most notable being a 1986 reunion featuring Paul Mario Day (the first singer of Iron Maiden), keyboardist Phil Lanzon, and bass player Malcolm McNulty (who is now lead singer for fellow glam rock band Slade).Vocalist and bass player Jeff Brown joined in 1988.Sailor vocalist Peter Lincoln.Despite serious health problems, Connolly toured the UK and European circuit on a regular basis during the 1980s and 1990s, backed by his New Sweet and Brian Connolly's Sweet backing bands, playing a mixture of Sweet hits and cover versions.Final reunions
In 1988, Connolly, Scott, Priest, and Tucker briefly reformed to record music for the first time in nine years.Some reworked studio versions of "Action", and "Ballroom Blitz", were recorded in Los Angeles.However, Connolly's vocals were deemed unsatisfactory by the three other group members, hence the reunion was brief.He was cremated after a ceremony at Most Holy Name Roman Catholic Church at Old Mill Lane, Denham, Buckinghamshire and his ashes were scattered over the water by his adult daughters Nicola and Michelle.Brian Junior (BJ) by his girlfriend Jean.According to Steve Priest: "He was the most underrated drummer that ever came out of England.He was the powerhouse of the band.At least one of Sweet's two remaining members is still active in the music industry.He has published his autobiography "Are You Ready Steve?"This band has played together for many years now.On this tour Sweet played songs from the Sweet Fanny Adams album including some of their other hits.Albums (up to 1982)

1976 "4th Of July" (Australia only).In 1984 Saxon did a cover version of the Sweet track "Set Me Free"; which they included on their album Crusader.Sweet's hit song "Ballroom Blitz" has been covered by numerous bands.These include The Damned in 1979, The Rezillos on the album 'Mission Accomplished....Pat Benatar covered the Sweet song "No You Don't" on her debut album In The Heat of the Night in 1979.Heathen covered "Set Me Free."In the early 1980's, Rough Edges regularly performed their version of "Ballroom Blitz" at their live shows.Calibretto 13 (later Calibretto) released a cover of "Ballroom Blitz" on their debut album Enter The Danger Brigade.In 1988, "Block Buster" was sampled by The Timelords (later The KLF) as part of their number one single, "Doctorin' The Tardis".In 1989 LA band Storyteller recorded "Little Willie" which got airplay on Pirate radio and was part of their live show.In 1993 Def Leppard released a successful cover version of "Action", charting higher than the original, and more recently recorded "Hellraiser" for their 2006 covers album, Yeah!.In 2005, a tribute album entitled The Sweet According To Sweden was produced and released by Rivel Records founder Christian Rivel.The album also features an introduction by Steve Priest in its liner notes.Gavin Friday covered "Wig Wam Bam" with fictional glam band "Billy Hatchet and the Mohawks" in Neil Jordan's film Breakfast on Pluto and on the film soundtrack.Louis, Missouri is using the Sweet song "Action" in their television and radio advertisements.Nip Drivers play "Fox on the Run" on the Desperate Teenage Lovedolls soundtrack."Ballroom Blitz" appears in the videogame Rock Band; the song already appeared in Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, but represented by the cover version made by Krokus."Set Me Free"

a9AdsViewNamespace.No one has tagged this product for Amazon search yet.See all 358 customer reviews...The easiest way to shoot video reviews.Top Drawer Baking Manual.The Sweet Life' by Chanterelle (top New York City restaurant) pastry chef, Kate Zuckerman brilliantly succeeds in a very difficult cookbook category.What is even better, the geek material is presented in such an appealing manner that even the amateur who just happens to want to make a custard or a caramel or a mousse will gain from reading Ms.Offsetting the rare interest in fancy pastry is the fact that pastry technique explanations seem to need the authoritative professional voice even more than fancy savory cooking.Zuckerman covers some of the really dramatic facts behind cheap versus expensive ice cream makers.Iron Chef America' of everything from trout to avocado were not enough.Zuckerman starts off at just the right point if her intention was to impress me personally, as she begins with tarts, especially tarts with citrus curd fillings.One of my favorite desserts is a Chez Panisse recipe for a lemon curd and blueberry tart, except that Alice Waters and company don't give a lot of details on the finer points of curds.Frau Zuckerman does all this and more, especially in both explaining how curds work and how to practically test whether or not their cooking is done.Yard's book may be just a tad better for the average baker in that it covers so many basic recipes, but Zuckerman is easier to read and easier to see how the nerdy content applies to practical techniques.In spite of all these great notes on technique and understanding, this is still a book about desserts at a high end Manhattan restaurant.In spite of her name, one gets the impression that Miss Z.So, if you happen to be a Nutella junkie, this book is definitely for you.Good Eats' is pate a choux, but steam even helps to leaven bread where one imagines the heavy lifting (leavening) is being done by yeast.It also turns out that a little extra chemical leavener enhances baked goods by adding just a bit more salt to the party, further enlivening the taste of the dessert.Pennsylvania Dutch apple dumplings, except that her paragraph for prepping the apples is longer than the whole recipe in most of the Pennsylvania Dutch cookbooks.But, if you've ever tried to core an apple to be stuffed with stuff, then bake it so that it is neither hard nor mushy, then you start to appreciate Ms.This is an excellent and very serious book for very serious bakers of great desserts."Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided to other Amazon.It is a gift that gives you a desire to eat, call for a reservation at a fine restaurant or simply stroll the grocery aisles for something delicious.The Sweet Life by Kate Zuckerman is just that gift.The contents page is easy to navigate.Chocolate chip cookies are more my speed.The history of chocolate on page 31 I found very interesting.The Beyond the Basics area with subjects such as "Chocolate and water," and "Cooking caramel successfully" can be a lesson in science as well as cooking.The Sweet Life is a sweet gift for your friend or family member who always impresses you with their skills in the kitchen.Me, I will just make a reservation at Chanterelle and see what I am missing.Was this review helpful to you?See all 7 customer reviews...Review of the Sweet Life by Kate Zuckerman

Following the release of her debut album Love.Stefani announced that she had intended to return to No Doubt and record a sixth studio album with the band.EP or as extra tracks on a DVD.However, Pharrell Williams, with whom she had collaborated to write "Hollaback Girl", convinced Stefani to create "a L.Miami, Florida in July 2005.The two produced "Wind It Up", "Orange County Girl", "Yummy", "Breaking Up", and "Candyland" during these sessions, and the songs were used for a fashion show premiering the 2006 collection of Stefani's fashion line L.She included performances of "Wind It Up" and "Orange County Girl" when she embarked on the Harajuku Lovers Tour in October 2005.The title was changed to The Sweet Escape, the title of the second track, to emphasize the album's themes of wanting to escape to a better life.Grand Old Party, one of the images from Greenberg's End Times series which served as the inspiration for the cover art.The image was part of a series of promotional images taken by Greenberg, inspired by her previous End Times exhibition.To create End Times, Greenberg gave lollipops to toddlers but took them back after several moments, provoking emotional outbursts.That's so disturbing,' or 'That's so sad.It's supposed to make you think."Stefani's appearance on the album cover is inspired that of by Elvira Hancock, a coke whore portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer in the 1983 film Scarface.The pair of oversized sunglasses on the album cover is intended to represent her "guarded exterior", and the other images symbolize her various emotions.The photos looked hyper real and perfectly perfect even though the emotions were slightly disturbing.Critical response
