CD from THE TOSSERS.The Tossers are the perfect Irish hybrid.Influenced by Shane Macgowen and the Pogues in more than a few ways, The Tossers play their own brand of Irish music loaded with attitude and alcohol.The south side of Chicago has a tough, working class reputation.So It's not entirely incongruous that a hard luck kid from the south side of town would choose to play traditional Irish folk music in pubs around the neighborhood.Before long, he had roped his brother and his best friends into playing original songs he had written, and so became the Tossers.The Tossers marry traditional instrumentation (mandolin, banjo, fiddle, tin whistle, etc) with the raucous turmoil of punks.From the very beginning, there's been a dichotomy to the Tossers; sure you can raise a glass, dance and have a laugh, but underneath, this is a band that has something intelligent to say and an undeniable way to say it.From upbeat reels (Nantucket Girls, Come Dancin') to raunchy guitar fueled rockers (Chicago) to the gut wrenching a cappella title track, the Tossers are fearless in their social, political and religious commentary.Purgatory tells stories of humor and tragedy, wit and wisdom, love, loss, and death.The Tossers can educate you, break your heart, or punch you in the face.In the end, though, they know that sometimes you just have to sit back, crack a beer, and say, "Fuck it.CelebratoryExuberantRebelliousIrreverentIntenseConfrontationalFierceEarnestAMG Artist IDP 430590Corrections to this Entry?Biographyby Kenyon HopkinForming on Chicago's South Side in the early '90s, predating popular Irish punk bands the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly, the Tossers blend Celtic rock, punk, pub singalongs, and traditional folk.Known for their love of beer, the band consists of Mike Pawula (guitar), T.Victory Records, which put out The Valley of the Shadow of Death in October 2005.The Tossers have helped make a name for themselves by opening for Shane MacGowan, Stiff Little Fingers, Dropkick Murphys, and Murphy's Law.These shows are gonna be great.Check out our tour dates!Raised on the South Side of Chicago which is known for its huge Irish Catholic community, The Tossers emerged in the early 90s with their own brew of Celtic music fueled by a love of traditional folk songs and punk rock fury.They named themselves a pejorative term that some trace back to Shakespeare; depending on who you ask, it means commode, drunk, or the currency of Britain rejected when the Irish established their independence in the 1920s.After twelve years and four albums, The Tossers are back with their follow up to The Valley of the Shadow of Death, called Agony.It is a collection of songs that run the gamut, from slow to fast, sweet to angry and back again.Using traditional instrumentation comprised of mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle and banjo beefed up with guitar and drums, The Tossers play with a furious edge that teeters between rage and raucousness.Favorite sons of the Chicago scene, the Tossers possess an unparalleled work ethic, playing anywhere, anytime, for anybody, with anybody, banjo player Clay Hansen mused.Eventually their name got out and while continuing to play the pubs and taverns of Chicagos South Side, they began to open for legends like Shane McGowan and Stiff Little Fingers.The Tossers live shows are legendary for attracting fans of all ages and from all walks of life drenched in Guinness and Jameson, the dancing crowd are always one step from a riot.The band are looking forward to starting their tour March 1st with the Reverend Horton Heat.Looking forward to seeing you at the Jax Irish Fest :) BUCKETS OF BEER!!Yall need to get to Omaha, Nebraska, no joke.Congrats on having the CD of the Year on Paddyrock.Thanx for the add you are greatcheers!Spetember at the Johnstown Folkfest!If the job treats me right I may see you in Glasgow, London or Dublin...."Ghosts of or Past" 1(Joint).Flogging Molly a run for their money4.Strongest release in a long time6.McDermotts 2 Hours: Goodbye To The Madhouse7.Just wanted to wish you a quick happy new year!Athbhliain faoi mhaise duit!Now come down to Ithaca and play!Here's to a Happy and prosperous New YearLove to you and your family xxxxxP.Last year they had Flogging Molly and this year The Tossers....Jax is doin, but they are sure as hell doin it right to get such great talent...You'll travel to Europe, but not to the Southwest?!??Any plans on coming to the west coast??It was suggested by Dan after one show I quit drinking and become a slut..What do your fans want for Christmas?We know The Pouges will be on the East Coast that week.Could we possibly see a repeat of last year's line up in NYC?!?!?!?The best of health and happiness to you.Have a Merry Christmas and a happy ShamrockFest!Hope you are all enjoying the time off and getting ready to rock Europe!I'm so much looking forward to seeing you live (with the mighty Mr.Irish Bastard) in Berlin!This could be an attempt to steal your username and password.Id + " Link: " + targetLink.Id + " Text: " + targetLink.Celtic punk band from Chicago.They formed in the early '90s and have started to move into the spotlight recently, having toured with such bands as Lost City Angels, Murphy's Law, Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, Dropkick Murphys, The Reverend Horton Heat and most recently Krum Bums and Street Dogs.They opened for The Pogues in New York City on St.Members 2 Discography 3 Compilations 4 T.All text is available under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License.To share this media with a friend, you must have AIM installed.Want More The Tossers?Check out the official THE TOSSERS website HERE!Raised on the South Side of Chicago which is known for its huge Irish Catholic community, The Tossers emerged in the early 90s with their own brew of Celtic music fueled by a love of traditional folk songs and punk rock fury.They named themselves a pejorative term that some trace back to Shakespeare;
