(What's this?Scotland when the Trashcan Sinatras first arrived on the scene in 1987.Sundays to acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.The Trashcan Sinatras have a light, shimmering sound reminiscent of the Smiths' quieter moments.Musically, they fit that bill to a T.Musically the group bore the same jangly guitars and swooping rhythm section that had propelled lesser bands to greater success; their songs, though, were more earnest and heartfelt.Trashcan Sinatras propelled into the limelight?Increasing ambivalence from the market, however, caused this CD to never get an official release in the U.Discs left the Trashcan Sinatras dangling dangerously close to the precipice of pop obscurity.However, in music as in coffee, the cream always rises.The Sinatras frittered away, legally unable to release anything while still playing concerts in the U.Sebastian, was dropping the Sinatras' name in interviews; he also asked them to play at a major festival.After dipping dangerously below the radar, the Trashcan Sinatras' star was suddenly back on the rise.Presently they're being feted as the missing link between the jangly sound of the late '80s and the twee popsters of the present.The idea of bands dancing with the devil and then losing their souls in the process is a longstanding cliche.Eight years after they went away, The Trashcan Sinatras have come back.Nor did they moulder in inactivity.They kept playing, popping up on stages and in bars and at festivals, in Scotland, London and the Far East.America resulted in a slot at the prestigious South By Southwest music industry festival in Austin, Texas.Frank, Paul, John, Davy and Stephen were known to be constant, and consummate, writers.So where was the fourth album?The Trashcan Sinatras are not dafties, or fibbers.The Trashcan Sinatras were forced to sell their Shabby Road studios.When the taxman comes knocking, inspiration often ducks out the back door.Norman Blake and delicate curls of pedal steel guitar.Delicate acoustic guitars vie with electric riffs and atmospheric percussion.Weightlifting was paid for by the band themselves, with a little help from the Scottish Arts Council.It sounds like The Trashcan Sinatras, and it sounds like freedom.Right now, someplace somewhere, the band are celebrating their liberation on radio airwave and concert stage.Band Members

If you've already discovered TCS, you need no encouragement to get this record.If you're new to this phenomenal band, I can only say that you are in for a real treat.Better great than never
