1.The early years
The Used officially formed in January of 2001, but the members had played in previous bands since the early 1990's which helped lead to the formation of The Used.They put out one self titled album in 1998 and lasted under that name until Quinn Allman took over guitar and Ashton Johnson took over the bass in 1999.In 2000, an EP called The Naked Truth was released.Howard moved to bass but the band had no singer.Tryouts for singers were held in Branden's bedroom, but they weren't satisfied with anyone they heard until Quinn remembered Bert McCracken from school and called him to see if he was interested in trying out.Bert met up with the other members and liked the music they wrote, he wrote the lyrics to the songs they had and everything seemed to click perfectly.So Bert took over the vocals, and the band was renamed 'Used.Although it may seem like these early bands were The Used under a different name, Jeph stated in an interview that the bands were so bad that they weren't real bands and didn't have anything to do with The Used.The drummer Branden Steineckert sent their songs to producer John Feldmann from the pop punk group Goldfinger, after he heard "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" he asked them to send more songs, finding that he was growing to love their music and knew the band had something that no other band had.Debut album and Maybe Memories

a9AdsViewNamespace.Why not be the first to suggest a search for which it should appear?So naturally a band like the Used (Orem, Utah) would never had been given a chance if they didn't happen to get their demo into the hands of John Feldman (Goldfinger) and have him proclaim them the best band he'd heard in years.After rigorous touring and an incessant struggle for perfection the album silently entered stores under the hands of the unforgiving music industry.Goldfinger has been an underlying factor in the success of punk music for years, but who knew that Feldman's talent lay in his production skills?If not, then we have an unsung, underground classic on our hands.Finch to be the best punk album I'd ever heard.The Used's success is bitter sweet; their introduction to the music industry was almost by luck.With the right ones, you'll make it.With none, you'll be playing local shows for the rest of your days.Utah still has many diamonds in the rough (The Given, Silvercrush, The World Waits), as do a myriad of locations across the nation.Your vote will be counted and will appear on the product page within 24 hours."Very rarely do I buy a CD without hearing at least one song off of it.Luckily in the past I have avoided getting burned by it (Snot's 'Get Some' being a prime example of taking a chance and being rewarded).So at the urging of at least a half dozen people insisting I check this out, I sucked it up, bought this CD, popped it in and got a big grin on my face.This CD is just plain stunning.You'll find yourself singing along to a lot of this CD.Their lead vocalist, Bert McCracken (nice name, not) has a really great voice.CD about a month ago and the only problem I have with it is that it keeps getting stuck in my CD player, I never want to take it out!See all 367 customer reviews...This CD literally changed my life
I was lucky enough to be working at Reprise Records when this record came into the door.Anarchic yet knowing enough to say all the right things to the metal mags, channeling the debauchery of 80's hard...Distasteful, painful, but unique and involving.If I had to recommend a 'The Used' cd to anyone, it would be this one.This CD gets you pumped right from the beginning.My favorite album of all time.If you have to get any album by the Used or any band really, get this one.Each song is amazing in it's own right.The Used are amazing!Just the right amount of Screaming.The Used CD
