Robbins was born Anthony J.Mahavorick in North Hollywood, California, and raised in Azusa, California. His parents divorced when he was seven years old, and his mother later remarried twice.Tony took on the surname of his second stepfather, Jim Robbins. He then went on to study neurolinguistic programming and to establish his career. In 1994, a routine medical check revealed a tumor in Robbins' pituitary gland.According to his recounting in Personal Power the tumor was actually an adenoma that had infarcted several years prior.Robbins reiterates similar comments about his previous relationship in his recent Ultimate Relationship Program (recorded with family therapist Dr.Cloe Mandanes and also Sage Robbins).John Grinder, who encouraged him to look into the firewalking experience.Cloe Madanes on what they call Human Needs Psychology.Unleash the Power Within (UPW) seminar, and his Mastery University, which includes Life Mastery, Date With Destiny, and Wealth Mastery. The UPW is also known as his Firewalk seminar, during which the participants walk barefoot over hot coals at the end of the first evening. The aim of the seminar, demonstrated in the firewalk, is to illustrate that the main quality shared by those who achieve greatness is the ability to take action ('Personal Power').Life Mastery, espouses Robbins' ideas about what makes for a healthy lifestyle, and has in the past featured guest lecturers including Deepak Chopra and John Gray (U.Date With Destiny, the only Mastery event at which Robbins is present for the entire event, is said to be designed to help participants align their values so that they are not in conflict, but rather are aligned with the participant's individual goals.Wealth Mastery teaches concepts which believers feel can facilitate financial wealth.Recently Robbins has appeared at many of The Learning Annex Real Estate Wealth Expos as a headline speaker, and at the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED conference) conference. In recent events, he has included fish into his diet plan, citing the need for omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids in a complete diet.He has also praised John Robbins' book Diet for a New America.Financial seminar guru Wade Cook also sued Robbins for copyright infringement, claiming that Robbins lifted concepts and terms from his seminars and his book, Wall Street Money Machine, during the creation of a competing financial course. The participant recalled some experiences that had him question the credibility of Robbins. There some other unsubstantiated and new age ideas about energy.James Randi calls the applied kinesiology used in the EMF demonstration as "scam."Some participants were surprised and uncomfortable with this.Tony Robbins, stating it "actually fans the fires of discontent, making people feel impaired or somehow deficient as a prelude to (supposedly) curing them."NLP) ending up in court over who owned the rights to NLP given NLP's promotion in business for negotiations and conflict resolution and also in Tony Robbins having become divorced while marketing products for the "perfect marriage".In contrast Jarvis argues that milk is the closest to being the most complete food.Jarvis believes that there are misconceptions about health benefits of food combining, which are supposedly based on Herbert Shelton's ideas, and that Robbins' evidence of a positive effect of undereating is flawed."Yale Study of Goals" in Unlimited Power as scientific evidence of the power of positive thought.Covey said only that it was 'marvelous.Acting
In Shallow Hal Robbins appears in a scene with Jack Black's character in an elevator where Robbins hypnotizes Black's character in order to change Black's mental state.Black's character can now see people's outward appearance based on their inner personality. The scene is pivotal to the plot.In the movie, an AI hires Robbins to help her become more human.According to the website, it has "products and programs in more than 2,000 schools, 700 prisons, and 100,000 health and human service organizations. The Foundation is committed to make a difference in the quality of life for children, the homeless, the prison population, and the elderly through its various programs."Charity Navigator gives the foundation an overall rating of four out of four stars.Beverly Schuch, Interviewer (2001).Transcript: Tony Robbins: Practicing What He Preaches (English).Retrieved on September 20, 2007.CanWest's Sun opponent Robbins thanks supporters (English).Technology, Entertainment and Design Conferences, LLC.Tony Robbins: Why we do what we do, and how we can do it better (English).Technology, Entertainment and Design Conferences, LLC.Retrieved on September 20, 2007.Federal Trade Commission (1995).Retrieved on September 20, 2007.Puget Sound Business Journal (1998).Jury hands Wade Cook copyright victory (English).Puget Sound Business Journal.Retrieved on September 20, 2007."The Robbins Matter, Edward Again, Astrology in Entourage, Surviving Without Magic, Deadly UK Cat, Kyborg Pyramids, Allah in a Tomato, Magnetized Water, and Roe in the UK......"JREF online newsletter of the JREF (English).James Randi Educational Foundation.Help Movement Made America Helpless.New York: Three Rivers Press.Anthony Robbins National Council Against Health Fraud.Awaken the Giant Within.Anthony Robbins Foundation (2006).Anthony Robbins Foundation (English).Retrieved on September 20, 2007.Unlimited power: the new science of personal achievement.New York: Fireside, 416 pages.New York: Fireside, 112 pages.Stategies for Creating a Compelling Future.Harnessing the Power of Your Six Primal Needs.DVDs

James Randi Critical article by an attendee of a Robbins weekend. This page was last modified 00:59, 16 January 2008.See Copyrights for details.Rate this talk with 3 clicks. You can choose 3 words, or vote for the same word 3 times.Tony Robbins makes it his business to know why we do the things we do.My first Ted Talk that req'd me to take notes.Tony, until the opportunity to thank you in person comes along, this forum will have to do.I'm still incredulous that after first watching this talk over a year ago I decided then to quit my job and change direction.Tony Robbins fan, but wow did this talk get me motivated.Unleash the Power Within in Long Beach and got the full 50 hour dose of Tony.If you think about it people you know as a person, friend, family Boss and so on.And the thing is self fulfillment is ironnically confused like todays news paper or your hot cup of coffee, becuase nobody knows why you do what you do but you, were you reading the headlines or sports section. Why we do what we do, and how we can do it better? This is the first time I've ever heard Tony Robbins speak.I've avoided him because of the bad reviews, and I am the fool for listening to the bad reviews and implementing them on a personal level.Amazing, I have listened to this talk three times so far and I am still getting new understandings out of it .Tony Robbins is something else.I'm sure most naysayers would not take me up on it) to learn what this person is teaching and sharing.Unleash the Power Within, I have most all of his programs, and have been studying the concepts he teaches for almost 20 years.Spend some time to understand what he is all about, and learn to internalize his teachings and I guarantee you, you'll understand where he is coming from in this video.Maybe he is efficient one on one (which probably is the case since he's successful), but talking to crowds is not his strong point. This was simply awesome.I'll be saving this for future reference.Having studied Steve Hassan's work on cults and cult leaders, I feel confident that this presentation did not feature any of the hallmarks of cult indoctrination.Robbins in these comments have not presented any rational support for their criticism. As one of the personalities at the forefront of the selfhelp movement he has developed an entire process on how to find more efficient ways to live a fulfilled life.Tony Robbin got a really special kind of talking skill. Moreover, the ideas that are presented in the movie are more faily mroe interesting.Sebastian Mallaby's "The World's Banker", about James Wolfensohn at the World Bank. And all the intellectualising
Its great!Anthony Robbins, as he gains their favour purely through arousing their emotions.I'm surprised at all the negative comments.Robbins clearly tells you that the way to reach people is through their emotions, so he appeals to emotions in his talk.I'm also a huge fan of Tony's but like a few others found the session to be lacking. The very end of the speech showed how "off" he was when he just didn't seem to summarize his presentation to wrap things up.As for being offensive etc, get over it....Hopefully people involved in TED are smart enough to realize that they won't agree with many of the things being said but that's what makes this event so great. This guy is just playing off his good looks and charm, trying to repeat what prophets have been saying since the beginning of time.Anthony Robbins for almost 20 years. The psychological equivalent of a used car salesman. We live on a planet of many beliefs, where each individual sees the world in a slightly different way.Not unlike a theater in the round, where everyone experiences the same thing simultaneously, yet from a different perspective.Whatever the religion someone holds, regardless if Buddist, Christian, Pagan, or Atheist, we need to be able to learn what we can from what they offer, and from what similarities exist, and also from what differences exist. For instance, as part of a very capitalistic society, I've often heard people say people only look out for their own interests, but of course, as Robbins stated, this isn't necessarily true.Denis Waitley in relaxed circumstances, and I was struck by the same quiet intensity. It seems Tony is of the unquiet intensity sort, probably because he cannot be satisfied with knowing what he knows....Upon reflection, the ideas contained in considering how people with the same motivations can arrive at different actions based on different mental "maps" was very illuminating, as was the discussion of the needs which drive us.In the end, this talk has great value.I've no issue with a speaker saying they "believe" something, for if you don't "believe" what you're saying, then why would anyone listen? Why is it assumed an "elite" audience would not include people of faiths (which, given talks by Buddists, Christians, and Atheists, obviously it does.TED is about sharing ideas, not just sanitized ones.Regardless of whom someone is interacting with, why would anyone take offense at that person wishing the best their belief system has to offer for another?"Merry Christmas" to someone who turns out to be atheist, or Jewish, or whatever, and if they're upset I reply asking when Christmas is (December 25th), asking if there is a December 25th in their calendar too (of course), and asking why they would take offense to my wishing them a merry December 25th?Personally, I find the coarse language distracting, but not impossibly so.Many of this guy's sentences start with this phrase. Not even close to TED standards. To me it sounded more like preaching to god's sheep instead of addressing an elite audience.Mark and Ahmad: lots of talking, no real message. If you don't base it on anything, but just go "I can do it, I can do it, I can do it," what happens when you can't do it?By this type of thinking, not making it is solely your own responsibility. However, if you look at it, that just isn't true: In America (just as elsewhere, but also more than elsewhere), there are barriers and obstacles you just can't possibly overcome if you're born in "the wrong place."Basically, I'd say my mental life would be less stable if I were to follow this guy's advice.I'm looking forward to sharing it with everyone I care about.Ahmad's points, about the talk being offensive.I'm also a huge fan of Tony, i highly respect his energy and the way he projects himself.TED talk he seemed slightly off his game, nervous and a bit uncomfortable.Tony as this inspirational leader with a bunch of hype.Totally in harmony with his passions, and it shows.Look for the good seeds, not just the ones you don't see.He speaks here, the way most USA, speaks.US crowd, so he must conform.Mark Hayens that he speaks a lot and says very little. For me, creativity, make you forget your one problems, but also solves your one questions.Resignation, is a negative word, but in life it is very important to bend into the wind.Tony Robbins is not only AMAZING...He talks alot and says very little. It is very surprising to me that so many are drawn into this shallow game.He inspired me more in "Shallow Hal" then he did with this talk.Robbins is an interesting case.Yes, and this talk is proof.Robbins is good (for nothing) but still comes across as a snake oil salesman. He activates mediocrity NOT excellence...Robbins serves as a distillation unit for some levels of excellence and thus...Robbins is a performer thats it!You have changed my life !Now I running across my real road !Why dont you run for high office.....This short talk by Tony Robbins epitomizes what drives me in my business initiative to improve the world for disabled people like me.I'm seeing Tony live for the first time at UPW in June 2007 and I am really looking forward seeing him and being even more inspired.Always gets me in the mood to get things done. Finally I can point friends to a "Tony in 20 minute" sampler. They wouldn't believe it otherwise. The audience wasn't quite sure to expect from this talk, and Tony blew the audience away. His spontaneous exchange with Al Gore is one of the classic "TED moments".Why do we fail to achieve what is important to us in our lives?Tony helps us all understand what we really need to acheive and how we cast blame on others or create excuses when we don't fulfill on our own commitments.Tony Robbins is so popular now.His honesty was disarming and his energy was infectious.Robbins exchange with Al Gore re: his missed chance at the presidency is one of the best TED moments of all time!Check it out about 5 minutes into the talk...Tony Robbins makes it his business to know why we do the things we do.Jack Black comedy Shallow Hal.It was a small but vital role. The TEDTalks archive is rich in proof that Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore, speaking at TED and elsewhere, truly has the power to inspire action. And after hearing Al Gore's first talk at TED, Jill Sobule sat backstage and learned a new song. It's a big moment for us: Until now, the TED experience has been limited to 1,000 people each year.Plus, the talks are fully searchable, so you can always find exactly what you're looking for. They're ideas worth spreading. So whether you're a TED veteran or virgin, we encourage you to clear your schedule and watch at least three talks, back to back.Perspiciatis unde omnis iste natus who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the same results. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more. One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy: true fulfillment.Remember, a real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided.Setting goals is the first step in better answers.Surmounting difficulty is the crucible that forms character. The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body The more efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you pleasure to, we will instantly change our behaviors. There is no such thing as failure. There's no abiding success without commitment. To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all
