Dan McAvinchey and Enevoldsen got together to talk about the latest developments in this young guitarist's career.Torben Enevoldsen: "Heavy Persuasion" was recorded in Aabenraa Studiet here in Denmark in the month of May this year, and the whole thing was engineered, mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen.Being very influenced by bands like Dream Theater, Symphony X etc.Torben Enevoldsen: Well, I didn't use any head phones while recording.Torben Enevoldsen: The advantages are many, but to narrow it down I'd have to say that they show sincere dedication and commitment, as well as a great promotional drive and finally, they have the network necessary for sufficient distribution.Did you make it a priority to learn to play fast, and what do you think you did to help you develop such fluid speed? What I did was, I got some great patterns to practice off of the first Vinnie Moore instructional video and then I practiced those every day, as well as adding new ones I made up myself.Dan McAvinchey: Do you ever have any problems with your fingers or hands?Torben Enevoldsen: No, not really.Do you have a particular method you use for writing?Torben Enevoldsen: Normally they appear when I'm practicing, but on ocassions, I also stumble upon interesting new ideas just jamming with the band or playing along with my drum machine right here at home.Torben Enevoldsen: I love instrumental music, but I love all kinds of music, both vocal and instrumental, so chances are that some day I just might.Torben Enevoldsen: There's a lot.I'd love to work with the Swedish keyboard player Jens Johansson someday.View albums available through Guitar Nine Records at the Torben Enevoldsen Discography.Use of this web site constitutes acceptance of the Guitar Nine Records Terms of you haven't heard much of this type of music, this isn't a bad place to start.Torben Enevoldsen, however, isn't difficult to review at all.No vocals on this one; just pure rock'n'roll. It's a gentler, breezy number with soaring guitars instead of chunky ones and a lazier beat.CD), his able band deserves special recognition as well: All are excellent and their talents merge well with Enevoldsen's.This record will kick your ass.Not a classic but it will rock your world.Torben Enevoldsen: My latest CD is called "Heavy Persuasion" and it's an all instrumental album.Denmark in May of last year and released by my new label, Lion Music, on October 3rd, 2000.Torben Enevoldsen: I guess I knew this when I was about 14 or 15 years old.Torben Enevoldsen: I started out being very influenced by Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi and Eddie Van Halen, but it was in 1990 that I truly became blown away by a guitar player.Steeler album in a store here in Copenhagen and I was completely overwhelmed by Yngwie Malmsteen's playing.Up to this point I had only practiced on and off, but listening to guitar playing like Yngwie's, made me realize that if I were ever to become a better player, I really needed to start taking things a lot more seriously. So from then on I actually began to practice every single day.How is it different writing an instrumental tune compared to a song with lyrics and vocals? How is it different performing?Torben Enevoldsen: I don't think that writing instrumentals as opposed to vocal music is that different.I'm doing leads all the time, but when you're performing with an actual lead singer, I can stand back and let the singer do his thing and just concentrate on the rhythm playing.Torben Enevoldsen: When playing a live gig, the band and I will be jamming a lot. This is one of the great things about playing live, you can really have fun playing and the audience always picks up on it, so the music will always be very unpredictable in a live situation.Torben Enevoldsen: Thanks a lot! It's very hard to elaborate on that, I'm afraid, because I just write the music in order to make me happy and this involves using different harmonies in different songs in order to achieve a certain mood or emotion.Rough Edge: Do you envision expanding on your repertoire?Torben Enevoldsen: Well, in this case, it's more a case of hinder than help. The club scene is almost impossible to get in on, because the bookers don't really want either original or instrumental music.Rough Edge: If you couldn't play the guitar, what would you do?Torben Enevoldsen: Play the drums! No, seriously, I think I would open up my own store and just sell CD's...Torben Enevoldsen: The internet is a big help for promoting music in general I think.Rough Edge: What's in the future for Torben Enevoldsen?Right now I'm busy writing new material for my next album. To read our reviews of his CDs, please click here.Dream Come True 12.EVERYONE LOVES "RECOMMENDED DAILY REQUIREMENT" but can't find their favorite article.Eddie Van Halen long has been considered a guitar god by young musicians seeking to reach the first step on the ladder that leads to fame and fortune.Torben Enevoldsen began working in earnest toward a music career ten years ago after listening to another hard rocker, Yngwie Malmsteen. What follows are his answers, exactly as they showed up on my computer a few days ago. You'll note that Enevoldsen has that happy combination of assurance and modesty."Heavy Persuasion" should persuade many devotees of the hard rock sound to plunk down their money at the nearest record emporium.G21:When did you start to play the guitar?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN:I actually began playing guitar in the early 80's, but I didn't really get serious until 1990.TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I never received any formal training at school or otherwise.G21:When was your first appearance on stage?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: My first live appearance must have been around the age of 14 and I played with a couple of friends from school. The band consisted of me on vocals and rhythm guitar and this older guy on lead guitar, as well as a class mate of mine who played the drums. But we had a lot of fun!!!G21: What was your first professional, paid performance?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: That must have been back in the mid 80's when I played in a band called TRACE.TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: The market for instrumental music isn't exactly large anywhere, but I truly believe that things are looking up.It seems to me that there's quite a large audience world wide for instrumental music and still growing, so I for one look to the future with great anticipation!TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: So far I am quite happy, but the more I achieve the more I seem to want so hopefully my work is never done.G21: What are your goals as a musician?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I want to reach as many people as possible and hopefully give them the same thrill I get, whenever I listen to great music!TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: Actually no.Once I got the first record deal, they changed a bit and I think that they actually grew rather proud.G21:Do you have a "day job," or are you able to support yourself as a musician?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I do have a day job.TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I grew up in a very small town called "Roennede"(population: 6,000) which is 60 km south of Copenhagen.TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I'm afraid that this question is a little too early to answer, since the album hasn't been out for more than 2 weeks. However, the reviews I have seen so far have been very favourable so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!G21:What are your immediate plans?TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: Right now I'm focusing a lot of my energy on doing promotion for "Heavy Persuasion", but I am also constantly writing new music and working on my chops so I'm keeping rather busy!States some time, but for now no gigs are planned...TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: Good question!TORBEN ENEVOLDSEN: I would like to point out that I have a web site at: www.Bob Powers always is interested in hearing from record distributors who deal in jazz, rock, folk, and anything that's good.
