| Takemura was the loudest musician that night. They did craft such paths. On the whole, i had a blast this night.Tortoise: Never one for suspense, I'll begin the next phase of our conversation: It is a new album from one of my country's most respected groups of musicians, Autechre.Tortoise: And I am holding it in my hands. They really do have a good sense of humor, don't you think?Achilles: Okay, way to go off the deep end.But then I also believe they are as instinctively driven as any other musician, if that's not a contradiction (and I don't necessarily believe it is).Yet, it slowly mutates into something lighter, with stuttering snare and what sounds like a digital sitar drone in the background.Achilles: So, you're saying it's got an interesting beat as long as you don't expect any kind of groove.Like three years ago, you couldn't stop finding cool shit, shit that nobody'd ever heard before."Fermium" would fit perfectly in the Berlin mix you made for your nephew.Fuck, hey, can I use your computer?Tortoise: The point is, despite their abstraction over the last few years, Autechre aren't an altogether different beast than when they started.Come on man, you need a more than "beat" to make dance music.Autechre decided to go their own way, fine, you know, just don't expect me to call them "geniuses."Chromatics Night Drive
Of Montreal If He Is Protecting Our Nation, Then Who Will Protect Big Oil, Our Children?IDM) converged for about five hours of floor pounding, head nodding, and chin scratching delirium.Lif, Prefuse 73, DJ Rob Hall
Scott Herren, aka Prefuse 73 opened the show.Herren, however, was well equipped. Here, he mainly seemed to be running sequences and tweaking sounds texturally.Herren played one of my favorite songs, "Livin' Life," near the end, which thrilled me to no end.R: Prefuse 73, DJ Rob Hall
Nobakazu Takemura was on next.Their set was the first one to use visuals. The projected images give you something interesting to look at; watching two people hunched over their laptops, while interesting in some contexts (Andy Warhol comes to mind), does not a make good stage show. These visuals were great!Like Oval, he uses skipping CDs, but his songs are playful and buoyant, never coldly academic like many of the Mille Plateaux releases tend to be.The robot began to make faces as the images replaced each other faster and faster while the music came to a frenetic, bouncy head.Haswell is a stalwart of the Mego label, an Austrian collective that is at the forefront of the burgeoning glitch and electronic noise genres.Imagine my surprise when I heard screeching wails of electronic noise.Haswell and Autechre are occupying sonic space that is growing closer and closer together. The extreme repetition they used was beautiful.I'll get this out of the way now: I've never been much of a Tortoise fan.Only the encore really worked for me, and that was primarily because of the visuals.Chicago, IL, United StatesMembersJohn Herndon (drums, vibes, keyboards, sequencing), Douglas McCombs (bass, bass 6, guitar, lap steel), John McEntire (drums, modular synthesizer, ring modulator guitar, electric harpsichord, keyboards), Bundy K.Tortoise was formed by bassist Douglas McCombs (a member of Eleventh Dream Day) and drummer John Herndon in 1991.Tortoise got signed to the nascent Thrill Jockey label in 1993, and the next year they released their eponymous debut.Tortoise, devoid of guitars, relied on an unusual instrumental line up (for indie rock): two bass guitars and a three piece rhythm section, handling drums and mallet instruments.Tortoise embarking on their biggest tour to date, performing in Europe, the USA and Japan. The following year, the band added guitarist Jeff Parker to the fold.Parker, unlike any other Tortoise musician, came strictly from the jazz side of the fence, and his guitar became a signature sound for the group. Thus, Tortoise has been very active and influential in the Chicago underground scene, and has left a lasting legacy.General Post rock bands with singing? You can edit this page to correct data or upload images, but you must log in first. The band repeated this pattern in 1998 with T.The results sound more like experiments from the Autechre lab than club favorites. It ends without a conventional resolution.Cravo E Canela
