New York, UNEARTHLY TRANCE formed in 2000.Founding members Ryan (Rion) Lipynsky and Jay Newman started with the idea of a 'Metaphysical Funeral Pyre'.Like a Phoenix Undead, UNEARTHLY TRANCE instantly gained attention due to the heavy atmospheric riffs laced with viciously attacking vocals.Within a year, UNEARTHLY TRANCE put themselves on the map and into the subconscious of the underground metal scene.Darren 'Vril' Verni revitalized the band with his signature 'heavier than war' drumming.UNEARTHLY TRANCE now achieved the sound of war 'machine', traveling into the deepest depths of the beyond.To coincide with their full United States tour with Electric Wizard in 2002, UNEARTHLY TRANCE released a limited tour CDR entitled "HADIT".Following the success of that release, another 7" EP ("frostwalkwithme") was spread to the masses via Parasitic Records.Science of Silence" was released in the Fall of 2003 and proved that UNEARTHLY TRANCE were indeed an esoteric force not to be taken lightly.UT received praises for their new and innovative approach to the 'Doom Metal' formula.Science of Silence" in terms of color, it would be black and silver: monochrome.That would make Unearthly Trance's second album absolutely on fire and 'in the red'."In the Red" was unleashed in Europe November 2004 through Rise Above Records and saw UNEARTHLY TRANCE conjuring up the most uncompromising apocalyptic noise may be the most appropriate soundtrack there is.Season of Silence and In the Red), I spoke to frontman Ryan Lipynsky to hear the plans for their Relapse debut.To start off, how did you hook up with Relapse?Basically, we were approached by Matt Jacobson at a time when we were still under contract for one more album for Rise Above Records.The writing is totally done.The songs we have this time around are really diverse, yet there is a common theme of short songs and more "to the point" songwriting.Faster paces, more killer riffs and overall just a more exciting version of the Unearthly Trance that people have come to know.The Trident was the working title, but we are now in the process of choosing a new title that will make all three members happy.The lyrics are about how the past and the future are interwoven.Very powerful and psychedelic.This is a song that I would lazily describe as "His Hero Is Gone meets Darkthrone."Proper studio version of a quieter drone song that was on a past compilation.My other favorite new song.What sort of evolution has Unearthly Trance gone through over your first two albums and into the third?The ritual is the live connection we have between each other.Seek and you shall find.But even when I was a kid I was drawn to books about aliens, the occult, basically anything that hinted at another side to the way everyone looks at the world.Thralldom is my black metal side project.Jay under the name Abandoner.All these things are side projects and Unearthly Trance is the main focus.DIY ethic influenced Unearthly Trance?Long Island where we grew up was really thriving at one point.Do you feel part of this scene?Knitting Factory, and a similar band that, to me, is just as good will play to six people in a basement.Having said that, there is a core group of people who have supported us for years and to them "we salute you!"Unearthly Trance's Relapse debut willbe issued Spring of '06.Flavorpill publishes eleven email magazines, covering art, books, music, fashion, world news, and cultural events in six cities.Out of New York comes Uneartly Trance.Having been around since 2000 and releasing several records on a few labels.They debut with "the trident" on Relapse Records, recorded at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studios.But thank god for wrong expectations.Haven't heard from Unearthly Trance before, but they seem to have toured the European continent already with Electric Wizard.I'd say anybody with a sparkling interest for bands such as Khanate and Sunn O))) might find something in here that seems to be interesting soundwise.While other slower doom filled pagan filled compositions definitely lean on the slower sludging side, dragging you on the ground of cold Finnish woods sludging you around into
