| Vengeance Rising was a Christian thrash metal band from Los Angeles, CA.Roger Martinez stayed on to record two more studio albums, but aside from him, Vengeance Rising's lineup changed for each subsequent album.Biography
The band was known for its fascination with violent themes, as reflected lyrically in their first two albums.Their penchant for violence extended to the stage, and the band would graphically portray the crucifixion of Christ at their shows.Frontman Roger Martinez had a background in the Pentecostal Foursquare Church, and was baptised there.He eventually rose to be pastor of a Hollywood area church, though by Released Upon The Earth he had left to pursue music full time.In the mid 1990s, Martinez left the Christian faith, telling HM that he was a committed atheist in 1997.Today, Martinez has obtained rights to the band name for future projects.According to Scott Waters and Steve Rowe, Martinez began to make tapes counteracting the tapes he made during his Christian career.He created a website that renounced his previous output and posted articles portraying Christian leaders in a negative light.Vocalist Scott Waters of Ultimatum and "Once Dead" stated on his metal music review website that "All Music Guide lists two releases...Former drummer Shannon Frye claims that Roger was impossible to work with and could not hold on to members long enough to even record a demo."He also claims that Martinez only kept the name of Vengeance Rising because of "continued curiosity from metal fans and Christians alike."Former fans and critics believe this to be an attack on former bandmates and Christianity, due to the straining situation of debt that he was left with when band members departed towards the "end" of Vengeance Rising's career.Original founding members of Vengeance Rising have reformed under the new name "Once Dead," first with the addition of Ultimatum vocalist Scott Waters, and currently former Fasedown vocalist Devin Shaeffer.Instead of fighting for the rights to "Vengeance Rising," they instead used the name "Once Dead."They released a DVD of a show performed in 2004 called "Return With a Vengeance."Members

first album I was first in line to buy the second when it was released.Not sure what was so funny about it, but
at the time I found it humorous.Get home, rip off the cellophane, popped the CD.From that point on I
treated my ears to one of the most pummeling experiences I had ever had.If you claim to like thrash and don't own this, you do not know
what you are missing.Rock had sponsored the show.One of which was a new song that was to be recorded for the next
album, but never was.Afterwards I stuck around to help the band break
down and clear their equipment from the stage.However, nothing in the band's contract
stated this, so it became a big issue.Once Dead album:
1.Mart stores refused to carry this CD because of the cover art.Hmm, wonder if there is a
bootleg floating around somewhere with that song?Larry Farkas, "I have never seen anyone more serious about
playing guitar as Larry Farkas.If he wasn't working, He was playing guitar.The intro to "Can't

but they changed their name to Vengeance only a week prior to the concert,

entitled 'Human Sacrifice', being released the year after.Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) I
believe) gave them trouble, as they already owned the right to record under this
name.The band quickly became pioneers in the
Christian metal movement, as they were, at the time, one of the more extreme
acts in that scene, playing relentless thrash metal.They also became a name in
the secular circuits, as they managed to cross over into that market as well.Originally
released under the Vengeance moniker, the band had to change their name
to Vengeance Rising due to copyright laws.Only 1000 CD's were ever
printed without 'Rising' added.This is raw and relentless thrash metal.Vengeance
Rising managed to create a style of their own.Still they
managed to record one of the best albums in the genre.From note one, to the last, this
is a platter that never gets dull.The production is a bit muddy, but it never
takes away anything from the music.Their
image and approach managed to create some controversy in the secular market, and
maybe even more so in the Christian market.Oh well, it's the music that counts.Killer tracks:
All of them.Is it fun, yes, but is it any good, no.Christians accused Vengeance Rising for using
scaring tactics.Man, why does it always seem that
Christians biggest enemies are other Christians?After the 'Once Dead' tour the
band discovered that they had gathered quite a debt.Martinez opted to continue, thus taking over not only all the merchandise and
equipment the band owned, but also all of the depts.Deliverance)

Records, as the band had already missed their deadline for a new CD.This release have not managed to hold
the test of time as good as its 2 predecessors.The songs sound too much like each other,
and has little variation.It just cannot touch 'Human Sacrifice' or 'Once Dead'.The band also did a photo shoot in front of the Jim Jones
temple, which of course later appeared in drawing on the actual cover for

'Released
Upon The Earth' was to be the last album by Vengeance Rising.The core is still thrash, but
his vocals are much more in the growling vein.Unfortunately, this album is not at all as good
as any of the 3 other albums Vengeance Rising released.The album
delivers more songs that are mediocre, and less songs that I enjoy to this very
day.The whole deal just gets repetitive, and without any real variation.The first track on the album pretty much spells it out.First of all, I didn't even know it was out (living
in Norway, and never getting to read the Christian metal magazines, it was
impossible to keep up with all the new releases coming out in the US), and
secondly, I didn't have any money!!Man, my brain was frying as I had to leave
that store without getting to buy this CD.So it wasn't until several years
later, when I got the internet, that I was able to track this album down for my
collection.Anthology'
is just what the title tells you, a compilation of the bands best tracks (in
other words, an attempt to cash in on a now defunct band).Not much is working
for this release though, as it contains nothing new, the songs are not in
chronological order, and can therefore seem a bit messy, and besides including
all the lyrics, there is nothing good about the inserts.Vengeance
lovers who never even bothered to get this item.Feeling betrayed by his friends
and former band mates, and screwed over by the Christian music industry, Roger
started to struggle with his faith.Vengeance Rising, with a new lineup
and a decidedly Satanic image.He built a website that renounced his previous
output and posted articles about Christian leaders that were aimed at making
them look foolish, but only proved to make Roger ridiculous.Martinez offered a free album from
his site for military personal only to encourage the holy war against Christians
he constantly talked about.Over the
years the various Vengeance Rising members have been involved in various projects.Accept,
